Acura’s August 2026 update describes the fourth-generation RDX Hybrid as a future model “in the coming years.” Honda says the SUV is under development and will use Acura’s first two-motor hybrid system. Meanwhile, production of the current-generation RDX is expected to pause during 2026.
When is the Acura RDX going hybrid?
There is no confirmed on-sale date or model year. In January 2026, American Honda said the next RDX would arrive “within the next couple of years.” Acura’s later August 2026 wording—“in the coming years”—is less specific. The later statement is the clearest guide to the model’s public status: it is planned, but timing remains open. Neither announcement establishes when customers can place orders or take delivery. Honda’s January 2026 U.S. outlook and Acura’s August 2026 announcement do not provide a firm date.
What is confirmed about the powertrain?
Honda says the next-generation RDX will use Acura’s first two-motor hybrid system. That is the confirmed RDX-specific powertrain detail. The official material reviewed does not state the hybrid’s horsepower, torque, battery capacity, fuel economy, price, trim lineup, or detailed all-wheel-drive specifications. Those figures should not be inferred from other Honda hybrid vehicles or system-wide targets.
What happens to the current RDX?
American Honda said production of the current-generation RDX would be suspended during 2026 ahead of the next generation. It did not give an exact final production date or say how long the gap might last. A production pause does not mean every dealer has already run out: local stock and availability depend on the dealer and change over time.

Is Acura still a performance brand?
Yes. Acura continues to describe its identity with the phrase “Precision Crafted Performance,” and its planned RDX Hybrid is part of the brand’s next design era. Honda’s broader strategy also points to a larger role for hybrids: its May 2026 briefing said next-generation hybrids would begin launching in 2027 and set a target of 15 hybrid models globally by the end of fiscal year 2030, primarily for North America. That is a corporate rollout plan, not a guarantee that every Acura model will become a hybrid.
Hybridization alone does not establish how the RDX will drive or whether it will be quicker, more engaging, or more efficient than the current model. Honda’s May 2026 materials describe system-level targets of more than 10% fuel-economy improvement and a 30% reduction in system costs for its next-generation hybrid models. Should you buy the current RDX or wait for the hybrid?
The practical choice depends on whether you need an SUV during the current model’s production transition or can wait for a next-generation vehicle with unknown timing and specifications.
Consider a current RDX if you need a vehicle sooner
Check actual inventory with nearby dealers rather than assuming a production pause has eliminated all remaining vehicles. Compare the specific vehicle’s transaction price, trim and equipment, powertrain, and warranty. Availability and deal terms are local; the future hybrid’s specifications are not yet published, so a direct feature or value comparison is not possible.

Wait if the hybrid itself is essential to your decision
Waiting may make sense if you specifically want an electrified RDX and do not have a near-term replacement deadline. Before deciding, recognize that the public announcements leave the launch date, specifications, pricing, and dealer availability unsettled. The planned model is not currently available to order.

The RDX has been a significant part of Acura’s U.S. lineup: American Honda says it debuted in 2006 and has reached nearly 740,000 cumulative U.S. sales, a figure cited in its 2026 outlook. Honda Vice President of Sales Lance Woelfer said the company is focused on “delivering the right mix of gas-powered and hybrid vehicles to meet customer demand for affordable, high-value products.” That framing helps explain why Honda is planning a hybrid successor while continuing to position Acura around performance; it does not promise a particular price or driving character for the RDX Hybrid.
