Honda has not announced a name, price, feature list or specific launch date for a future under-4-metre SUV in India. Its official 2026 roadmap says it will begin introducing India-focused models in the under-4-metre and mid-size categories from 2028. That is a broad starting window for a product strategy, not confirmation that a particular compact SUV will launch in 2028.
The New Honda Elevate, unveiled in India on October 6, 2026, is a mid-size SUV. Its specifications and prices are useful as current Honda context, but they are not confirmed specifications or a price guide for the future compact model.

What Honda has confirmed about a future compact SUV
Honda’s 2026 business briefing sets out a plan to begin introducing strategic, India-focused models from 2028 in two categories: under 4 metres and mid-size. Honda says the vehicles will have specifications aligned with Indian customer characteristics and preferences. The briefing does not identify a particular under-4-metre SUV, publish its technical specifications, or attach an exact launch date to one model.

That distinction matters because a company roadmap can cover more than one vehicle and a multi-year product plan. “From 2028” indicates when Honda says introductions are to begin; it does not mean every vehicle in the plan will arrive in that calendar year. Nor does the category plan, by itself, establish the name, body style, equipment or powertrain of any individual product.

India Today’s May 14, 2026 report describes a new compact SUV for India and says technical details were still undisclosed. It provides context for why a specific compact SUV is being discussed, but the date and timing of any eventual launch should not be treated as a Honda-confirmed schedule. The official Honda roadmap is the firm basis for the broad 2028-onward plan.
Confirmed and not yet confirmed
| Question | What is established | What has not been announced |
|---|---|---|
| Market and product direction | Honda plans India-focused models in the under-4-metre and mid-size categories. | The official briefing does not name a specific future compact SUV. |
| Timing | Honda says introductions in these categories will begin from 2028. | No exact launch date for a named compact SUV is given. |
| Customer fit | Honda says specifications will align with Indian customer characteristics and preferences. | There is no published feature or specification sheet for the future vehicle. |
| Price and powertrain | Neither is specified for a particular future under-4-metre SUV in the roadmap. | Engine, transmission, efficiency, variant walk and price are all unannounced. |
Expected features: what can and cannot be said
There is no confirmed feature list for Honda’s future under-4-metre SUV in the company’s roadmap. That means features often discussed in predictions—such as a sunroof, touchscreen size, connected-car functions, advanced driver assistance, camera systems, particular seat materials or a specific set of airbags—cannot responsibly be presented as expected equipment on the strength of the available announcements.
Honda’s statement that its India-focused models will reflect local customer preferences is a direction, not a specification. It does not establish which convenience, safety or technology features will be fitted, whether they will be standard or trim-dependent, or whether the model will use equipment seen on another Honda vehicle. A feature confirmed on the Elevate does not become evidence of fitment on an unnamed SUV.

How to evaluate the feature list once Honda publishes it
When Honda releases a variant-wise specification sheet, focus on what is included in the actual trim you might buy rather than relying on a headline feature list. The following checks help distinguish a useful comparison from a list of features available only on the most expensive version:
- Safety equipment by variant: Check which trims receive driver-assistance systems and which safety features are standard across the range. The presence of a system on one top trim does not establish availability across all versions.
- Transmission and powertrain: Confirm which engine and transmission combinations are offered in each trim. A feature or efficiency figure tied to one transmission should not be generalized to the whole lineup.
- Practicality: Look for published rear-seat and boot measurements, then assess them in person if those dimensions matter to your use. Do not use the Elevate’s boot capacity as a proxy for a smaller vehicle.
- Ownership terms: Read the warranty coverage and any optional extensions, including their duration and conditions, rather than treating the warranty on a different Honda model as applicable.
- Availability: Ask a dealer to confirm whether a stated feature is part of the vehicle being offered, included in the quoted trim, or subject to a later delivery or configuration.
Price: no official figure or reliable estimate yet
Honda has not published a price for a specific future under-4-metre SUV. The roadmap contains no price band, and the secondary report does not establish a Honda-confirmed figure. Any precise rupee amount or price range for this unnamed vehicle would therefore be speculation, not a confirmed launch price.
The New Elevate’s Delhi ex-showroom prices are not a sound way to calculate what a smaller, future model will cost. The Elevate belongs to Honda’s mid-size category, and its price applies to that model, its listed trims and the date of Honda’s announcement. Differences in vehicle positioning, equipment and powertrain mean that the Elevate range cannot be converted into a price estimate for a separate product.

New Honda Elevate prices in Delhi, announced October 6, 2026
| Transmission | Published price span | What the figure applies to |
|---|---|---|
| 6-speed manual | ₹11,80,000–₹16,90,000 | New Elevate trims from SV to ZX+ Black; Delhi ex-showroom prices published by Honda Cars India on October 6, 2026. |
| CVT | ₹13,79,000–₹18,40,000 | New Elevate trims from V to ZX+ Black; Delhi ex-showroom prices published by Honda Cars India on October 6, 2026. |
These are Delhi ex-showroom figures, not on-road prices and not prices for the future compact SUV. On-road cost varies with location, taxes, insurance and fees. For a future model, compare the official ex-showroom price for the exact variant with a written, city-specific on-road quotation; do not compare a Delhi ex-showroom figure directly with another vehicle’s on-road total.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLaunch timing: what “from 2028” means for a buyer
Honda’s official wording sets 2028 as the starting year for introducing strategic India-focused models in the under-4-metre and mid-size categories. It does not assign a particular date or month to a compact SUV, and it does not specify whether the under-4-metre vehicle will be the first product introduced under the strategy.
India Today’s May 14, 2026 coverage uses a compact-SUV launch framing, but Honda’s roadmap is broader than one model announcement. Until Honda identifies the vehicle and gives a product-specific schedule, a firm booking date, showroom arrival date or delivery estimate should be treated as unconfirmed. A report describing an expected launch window is not the same as an official model launch announcement.

What to look for in an actual launch announcement
- A model name and an explicit confirmation that the vehicle is intended for India.
- A product-specific unveiling or launch date, not only a general company roadmap.
- Variant names, powertrain choices, safety equipment and official price information.
- Booking instructions and delivery information published by Honda or an authorised dealer.
Until those details appear, a booking channel for another Honda model does not establish that a reservation system exists for this future vehicle. Honda’s New Elevate release included a booking route for the Elevate; it does not confirm a booking mechanism for an unnamed compact SUV.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.New Elevate versus the future under-4-metre model
Honda describes the New Elevate as a mid-size SUV. Its October 6, 2026 unveiling therefore provides current information about a Honda India product, not proof that it is the compact SUV people are asking about. Honda’s roadmap separately names under-4-metre and mid-size categories, so the two labels should not be collapsed into one vehicle.
The Elevate is still useful as a reference for what Honda currently lists in India. Honda Cars India specifies a 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC petrol engine, with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT with paddle shifters. Honda gives output as 89 kW (121 PS) at 6,600 rpm and torque as 145 Nm at 4,300 rpm. Its certified fuel-efficiency figures are 15.31 km/l for the manual and 16.61 km/l for the CVT.

| New Elevate item | Honda’s published detail | Scope and caution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC petrol | New Elevate specification; not a future compact-SUV confirmation. |
| Transmission | 6-speed manual or CVT; paddle shifters listed with the CVT | New Elevate specification. |
| Output and torque | 89 kW (121 PS) at 6,600 rpm; 145 Nm at 4,300 rpm | Honda Cars India figures for the New Elevate. |
| Certified fuel efficiency | 15.31 km/l (manual); 16.61 km/l (CVT) | New Elevate figures; do not compare them as if they were ratings for an unnamed SUV. |
| Boot capacity | 458 litres | Listed on Honda India’s Elevate specifications page; not a measurement for the future model. |
Honda lists equipment on the New Elevate including Honda SENSING driver assistance, Low-Speed Follow on CVT variants, a 360-degree Surround Vision Camera, ventilated front and rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, and front and rear parking sensors. Equipment availability varies by trim. These details illustrate the Elevate’s own equipment range; they do not predict what Honda will fit to a different vehicle.
Honda’s New Elevate release also lists a standard three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with optional extended-warranty arrangements. That is a model-specific ownership detail, not a published warranty promise for the future compact SUV. The Elevate can provide a concrete benchmark for Honda’s current India offering, but its features, warranty, fuel efficiency, boot capacity and price should remain attached to the Elevate when making a comparison.
India plans and US Honda SUVs are different markets
Honda’s US compact-SUV lineup uses the HR-V and CR-V names. Honda describes the HR-V as the smaller, gas-only option and the larger CR-V as offering hybrid power. Honda’s US lineup page also says both offer available all-wheel drive and standard Honda Sensing. Those US-market descriptions do not establish what Honda will sell in India or what equipment the future India-focused model will receive.

| Honda US figure shown on the 2026 lineup page | Market and model context | Why it is not an India estimate |
|---|---|---|
| 28 mpg combined | HR-V, US EPA rating shown by Honda US. | US EPA rating and US-market vehicle context; it is not an India efficiency figure. |
| 30 mpg combined | CR-V, US EPA rating shown by Honda US. | US EPA rating; the CR-V’s US specifications do not define an India compact SUV. |
| 40 mpg combined | CR-V Hybrid, US EPA rating shown by Honda US. | US EPA rating for the US hybrid model, not evidence of a hybrid India offering. |
Vehicle names, powertrains, ratings, trim structures and availability can differ by market. A US model page is useful only if the question is specifically about Honda’s US lineup. It cannot be used to fill gaps in the India roadmap, and a US fuel-economy rating should not be compared directly with an Indian certified km/l figure.
How to compare Honda’s future SUV when details arrive
Once Honda publishes the model’s specifications and price, a useful comparison should be based on the exact variants and market rather than on an assumed segment average. These are the decision points that will let buyers compare the new vehicle with alternatives without confusing estimates, headline features and on-road costs.
- Start with the exact variant and city. Compare official ex-showroom prices for equivalent trims, then request on-road quotations in the same city. Separate taxes, insurance and dealer fees so a difference in quote structure is not mistaken for a difference in vehicle price.
- Match powertrains before comparing efficiency. Record the engine or motor, transmission and the stated test or certification basis for each vehicle. Compare like with like, and keep the manual and automatic figures separate when the manufacturer publishes separate ratings.
- Check safety equipment by trim. Verify which driver-assistance and other safety features are standard, optional or limited to higher variants. A feature shown in promotional material may not be fitted to every version.
- Assess space using published measurements and your own needs. Compare rear-seat dimensions and boot capacity only where the manufacturers provide comparable measurements. If child seats, adults in the rear or bulky luggage are priorities, inspect the actual vehicle rather than assuming a smaller exterior category guarantees a particular cabin layout.
- Include warranty and service support. Compare coverage duration, distance limits and terms, as well as the service support available where you live. Do not assume the future model will inherit another Honda’s warranty terms.
- Confirm delivery timing separately from launch timing. A public unveiling does not guarantee immediate local stock. Ask the dealer for the delivery estimate for the specific trim and configuration, and distinguish that estimate from Honda’s announcement date.
At present, the future vehicle cannot be honestly scored against competitors on these measures because its details have not been announced. This framework is for evaluating published information once it exists; it is not evidence that Honda has selected any particular equipment or price.
