Some Honda Civic and Acura Integra vehicles are included in American Honda’s U.S. steering gearbox recall, announced in October 2024. NHTSA lists 1,693,199 potentially affected vehicles under campaign 24V-744; the manufacturer rounded the total to approximately 1.7 million. A model and year on the list do not confirm that a particular car is affected: check its VIN for an open recall. The repair is free at an authorized dealer.
Which Civic and Integra models are included?
The recall population includes certain vehicles in the model-year ranges below. These ranges identify vehicles that may be affected, not every vehicle of that model and year. American Honda’s October 9, 2024 announcement and NHTSA’s October 8, 2024 acknowledgment list the following Civic and Integra versions:
- 2022–2025 Honda Civic sedan and hatchback
- 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan and hatchback
- 2023–2025 Honda Civic Type R
- 2023–2025 Acura Integra
- 2024–2025 Acura Integra Type S
The broader recall also includes certain Honda CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V Fuel Cell and HR-V vehicles. The published model-year ranges alone cannot establish whether any specific vehicle has an open recall.
What is the steering gearbox problem?
Honda says an improperly produced worm wheel in the steering gearbox can swell when exposed to environmental heat and moisture. That can thin the grease film between the worm wheel and worm gear. Honda also says the worm gear spring preload was set too high, increasing sliding force. Together, these conditions can increase friction and make steering noisy, difficult or “sticky.”

How to check whether your car has an open recall
- Find the 17-character VIN. NHTSA says it is visible at the lower left of the windshield and may also be printed on registration or insurance documents.
- Enter the VIN in an official lookup. Use NHTSA’s recall lookup or the Honda/Acura recall lookup linked from the manufacturer’s announcement. A year, make and model search provides general recall information, not confirmation for an individual vehicle.
- If the lookup shows an unrepaired campaign, contact an authorized dealer. Ask to arrange the steering gearbox recall repair. Honda’s announcement lists customer service at 888-234-2138.
NHTSA’s VIN tool reports unrepaired recalls for a specific vehicle, but it has limits: it does not show recalls that have already been repaired, and some newly announced campaigns may not appear until affected VINs are identified. The tool also excludes international recalls and safety recalls more than 15 years old, except where a manufacturer provides additional coverage. If you suspect an open recall but get no result, check the manufacturer’s lookup and check again later.
What does the free repair involve?
NHTSA says dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, at no charge. The repair should be arranged through an authorized Honda or Acura dealer rather than attempted at home.

Acura Service Bulletin 24-054, Version 7, dated March 27, 2025, describes the dealer procedure for 2023–2025 Integra vehicles, including Type S. It says the work is intended for skilled technicians with proper tools and training and should not be attempted by DIYers. The bulletin also directs technicians to check VIN eligibility.

Does a listed model year mean my Civic or Integra is affected?
No. The model-year ranges describe the recall population, while eligibility and whether the repair remains outstanding are specific to the vehicle. Use the VIN lookup rather than relying on the badge, model year or a general search result.
