The Honda 0 α (Alpha) is Honda’s closest confirmed match for a new electric SUV aimed at a wider audience. Honda says production-model global sales are planned to begin in 2027, mainly in Japan and India. The company has not confirmed a March 2027 launch date, a price or production specifications.
Which Honda electric SUV is planned for 2027?
It is the Honda 0 α, a prototype SUV Honda unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025 as part of its Honda 0 Series. Honda calls it a “gateway model.” In its October 29, 2025 announcement, the company said it plans to begin global sales of the production model in 2027, mainly in Japan and India.
That is a plan, not a confirmed retail date: Honda has not said the 0 α will launch by March 2027. Its separate statement that three 0 Series models, including the 0 α, were planned to go on sale in Japan before the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2028 does not establish a March 2027 deadline.
Is it really an electric SUV “for the masses”?
Honda’s language points to a broader intended audience, but does not establish an affordable price. The company describes the 0 α as a gateway model, and exterior design project leader Taku Fukui said, “The Honda 0 α targets first-time EV buyers,” in a Honda design interview published October 29, 2025. Those statements describe the model’s positioning and target customers; Honda has not published a production price.

A separate Honda–GM announcement in April 2022 described a planned series of affordable EVs, including compact crossovers, expected to go on sale in 2027 starting in North America. That announcement does not identify the 0 α, so it cannot be used to infer this SUV’s price, specifications or market launch. Honda’s original Honda–GM announcement covers that separate plan.
What has Honda shown about the design?
Honda’s prototype description highlights a low-height profile intended to retain ground clearance, a thin cabin designed to preserve occupant space, and integrated front and rear screen areas. These are manufacturer descriptions of a prototype, not confirmed measurements or independent evaluations of the production vehicle.

What do we know about the 0 α’s specifications and price?
Honda’s cited announcement and interview do not give the production model’s price, battery capacity, range, charging rate or connector, motor output, trim levels, or country-by-country order dates. Until Honda publishes those details, claims about affordability or driving range are speculation.
For context only, Honda’s U.S. vehicle catalog, retrieved October 7, 2026, lists the separate 2026 Prologue electric SUV with a $39,900 starting MSRP and a 308-mile EPA range rating. Neither figure is a target or estimate for the 0 α.

Does Honda’s 2026 EV cancellation affect the 0 α?
Honda’s March 12, 2026 announcement canceled development and market launch for three EVs planned for U.S. production: the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon and Acura RSX. The 0 α was not among the models named. The announcement also discussed strengthening Honda’s lineup in India. It therefore does not confirm a 0 α launch, but it does not say the 0 α was canceled either. See Honda’s March 12, 2026 strategy announcement for the models it named.
