The Hitch Hotel Traveler is a compact, wheeled trailer designed to do two jobs: carry camping gear while being towed, then expand at the campsite into a hard-sided sleeping shelter. New Atlas reported its launch on December 12, 2022. Its key constraint is just as important as its folding design: Hitch Hotel’s current FAQ says the trailer must be retracted before towing.
How the Hitch Hotel Traveler works
New Atlas described the Traveler as a fiberglass trailer that stores gear on the way to camp and converts into a shelter after the gear is unloaded. At the site, the owner lowers support legs and slides out the expansion sections. New Atlas said setup takes a few minutes. The compact form is intended for travel; the expanded form is for stationary use.
The launch report is the source for the Traveler-specific dimensions and payload below. Hitch Hotel’s current website describes a Hitch Hotel configuration too, but the available sources do not establish that its present specifications and equipment are identical to the 2022 Traveler.

These are figures in the launch coverage, not independently verified measurements. In particular, do not treat a reported axle rating or payload as a substitute for the rating on the trailer you are considering or for checking the loaded trailer’s actual weight.

Can my car tow a Hitch Hotel?
Hitch Hotel’s current FAQ says a Class 1 hitch assembly is needed in the United States. It lists 950 lb total weight and 145–160 lb tongue weight for the current Hitch Hotel, with a 200 lb tongue-weight limit and a 2,000 lb total-weight limit for the Class 1 hitch assembly. These are current manufacturer figures, not confirmed specifications for the 2022 Traveler configuration.
Before towing, check the exact vehicle’s tow rating and tongue-weight limit, the receiver and hitch assembly ratings, and the trailer’s loaded weight. The lowest applicable rating governs; a Class 1 hitch label by itself does not establish that a particular car can tow a particular loaded trailer. Can I drive with an expanded trailer?
No. Hitch Hotel’s current FAQ answers this question “No.” Retract and secure the trailer before towing; expansion is for use at the campsite, not for travel. See the manufacturer’s towing FAQ.
Does the Hitch Hotel come with a mattress?
Hitch Hotel’s current FAQ says padded flooring is standard, but a mattress is not included. Bring a mattress or other suitable bedding if you need it. This is the current FAQ’s equipment information; the available sources do not confirm what bedding was supplied with the Traveler at its 2022 launch.

Does the Hitch Hotel have electricity?
The current manufacturer FAQ lists a 12V 100Ah lithium-ion battery, a 300W solar blanket and a 110V/30A external power connection, along with a charger. It also lists three vented windows and a roof fan. These are current Hitch Hotel specifications and should not be assumed to describe the launch Traveler exactly.
The FAQ identifies an EcoFlow Wave 2 as optional climate equipment, not a standard included feature. It also notes that cooling without a generator or AC power is limited. Confirm the included equipment for the particular model and order rather than treating the current product list as a Traveler bill of materials.

What is known about price and availability?
Hitch Hotel’s current official pages invite quote requests and advertise financing but do not state a public price in the reviewed pages. The available sources do not establish the Traveler’s current price, order status, delivery time, or whether it is equivalent to the current official product. A separate Kickstarter update dated September 11, 2026 concerns a wheel-less Hitch Hotel trailer campaign; it should not be confused with the wheeled Traveler New Atlas covered in 2022.

Hitch Hotel’s current FAQ lists a limited 12-month warranty covering quality and craftsmanship and describes a 3.5-foot storage footprint. Those are current manufacturer claims; the available sources do not establish that they apply to the original Traveler configuration.
