Crutchfield’s current guides offer a useful shortlist instead: customer-favorite models selected for different needs, including wired CarPlay, wireless CarPlay, disc playback and large floating screens. The right pick depends just as much on your vehicle’s dash and retained features as on its screen or star rating.
Which Apple CarPlay stereo is highest rated?
Crutchfield’s September 21, 2026 CarPlay guide names models by use case rather than declaring one universal winner. Its separate August 26, 2026 general stereo guide says its selection drew from best-selling head units averaging at least four Crutchfield customer stars: “We looked at our best-selling head units that also earned an average Crutchfield customer rating of 4 (or more) stars.” Those are editorial picks based on one retailer’s customer ratings, not standardized head-to-head test results or market-wide owner data.
At the time the pages were retrieved, several named models showed 4.5 out of 5 stars on Crutchfield. The scores and review counts below are snapshots of that retailer’s pages and can change; they should not be read as permanent ratings or directly comparable test scores.
| Model | CarPlay and standout use | Crutchfield rating snapshot |
|---|---|---|
| JVC KW-M595BT | Wired CarPlay; 6.8-inch screen; Crutchfield’s wired-CarPlay pick | 4.5/5 from 82 reviews |
| Kenwood DDX5707S | Wired CarPlay; 6.75-inch screen; DVD/CD playback | 4.5/5 from 324 reviews |
| Pioneer DMH-WT6000NEX | Wired or wireless CarPlay; 10.1-inch floating capacitive HD touchscreen | 4.5/5 from 47 reviews |
| Sony XAV-AX8500 | Wireless-only CarPlay; 10.1-inch floating screen on a single-DIN chassis | 4.5/5 from 73 reviews |
These figures are retailer-specific snapshots from Crutchfield’s CarPlay roundup and general stereo guide. A larger review count does not establish that a receiver is better for your car or needs.

Budget wireless option: BOSS Audio Elite BE7ACP.WX
Crutchfield’s general stereo guide labels the BOSS Audio Elite BE7ACP.WX a budget wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay option, with a 7-inch screen, camera inputs and a five-year warranty. The CarPlay-specific guide separately names a BOSS BE7ACP as its budget pick; do not assume those model names or suffixes identify the same receiver. Verify the exact model and current specifications in the listing.
Largest floating display: Alpine Halo11 iLX-F511
The Alpine Halo11 iLX-F511 pairs a single-DIN chassis with an adjustable 11-inch floating display. Crutchfield’s general guide describes it as supporting wired CarPlay and select-vehicle Maestro integration. Its screen needs careful clearance checks so it does not obstruct controls, vents or the driver’s view.
Wired or wireless CarPlay: which should you choose?
Choose based on how you want the phone to connect, not on the size or price of the screen. Wired receivers require a cable for CarPlay; wireless models can connect without one. Some models support both. A wireless-only receiver such as the Sony XAV-AX8500 will not switch to wired CarPlay just because a charging cable is plugged in.

Will a head unit fit your car?
Fit cannot be confirmed from a receiver’s DIN size alone. A compatible installation may depend on the vehicle’s year, make, model and trim, the dash opening and depth, screen clearance, and which factory features you want to keep. A floating display can fit an opening yet still interfere with a vent or control.
Crutchfield directs shoppers to enter their vehicle to filter for compatible radios and says its advisors can confirm installation requirements. Check the vehicle-specific parts and features that apply to your setup:
- Dash kit, wiring harness and antenna adapter
- Steering-wheel-control interface and any required adapter compatibility
- Factory backup camera, amplifier and other equipment you want to retain
- Receiver depth and, for floating screens, clearance around dash features
Use Crutchfield’s vehicle-filtered CarPlay stereo listings as a compatibility starting point, then confirm the required parts and retained features for the exact vehicle and receiver. A model-level feature list does not establish that a particular car can use every feature without additional hardware.

What else should you compare?
Screen size and chassis style
A conventional fixed screen and a single-DIN receiver with a floating display solve different dash-layout problems. Compare the receiver’s chassis and the display’s actual dimensions, position and adjustment range with the space in your car. A larger screen is not automatically a better fit.
Disc playback
Many newer mech-less receivers omit CD/DVD drives. If you still use discs, the Crutchfield CarPlay guide identifies the Kenwood DDX5707S and Kenwood Excelon Reference DDX9907XR as disc-capable choices.
Audio expansion and cameras
Compare preamp outputs, equalization, time alignment and camera inputs when you need those capabilities for your audio system or vehicle. For example, Crutchfield lists five preamp outputs for the Kenwood DDX5707S and three camera inputs for the Sony XAV-AX8500. Those details matter when they match your setup; they do not determine whether a receiver fits or preserves a factory feature.
