The Honda VFR750R, better known by its RC30 model code, deserves a second life because it brought race-focused engineering to a road-going motorcycle—and was built to help privateers compete with factory riders. Today, preserving one means caring for the original machine and finding parts while Honda’s remaining stock lasts. The factory RC30 Refresh Plan has ended; Honda has not confirmed that its newer Heritage Works service covers the RC30.
What made the Honda RC30 special?
Launched in 1987, the VFR750R (RC30) was designed as a “full replica” of Honda’s RVF750 racer. Honda’s stated aim was to give privateers a motorcycle that could compete with fewer disadvantages against factory riders. That purpose mattered: the RC30 was not simply a road bike wearing race-inspired styling, but a limited-production machine carrying distinctive engineering into a road-legal package.
Honda’s corporate history identifies several technologies as new to its production range at the time: a three-part camshaft arrangement, titanium-alloy connecting rods, a carburized chrome-molybdenum-steel camshaft and bearings, a cantilever Pro-Arm swingarm, a full FRP fairing, and magnesium and duralumin components. These choices helped make the RC30 a significant piece of Honda engineering, as well as a motorcycle with a direct connection to competition.
How successful was it on the racetrack?
Honda’s UK legacy-model page says the RC30 won consecutive World Superbike titles in 1988 and 1989, alongside Isle of Man TT and other national-series victories. The racing record gives the bike’s road-going purpose context: Honda created it under World Superbike homologation rules, and its competition success followed soon after its launch.

How rare is the VFR750R (RC30)?
Honda’s corporate history records 4,885 RC30s sold worldwide. For Japan, Honda says production was limited to 1,000 units, priced at 1.48 million yen, with sales conducted by lottery after more than 3,000 applications. These are Honda-published historical figures. Honda UK separately describes worldwide customer sales as approximately 5,000, a rounded figure rather than an exact count.
Can you still get genuine Honda RC30 parts?
Honda’s Heritage Parts page lists genuine parts for the VFR750R (RC30); Honda says the page was updated on December 1, 2025. Its guidance directs owners to authorized Honda motorcycle dealers for ordering and replacement. A listing does not mean a specific component is in stock: availability depends on remaining inventory and can vary by part and market.

Honda UK’s RC Forever information likewise routes parts orders through the Honda dealer network and warns that sales depend on limited stock. Delivery times can vary because parts ship from Japan, and sales start dates differ by part. Contact a local authorized dealer with the exact model and part details before planning a repair or restoration; neither a catalog listing nor an order inquiry guarantees availability.
Is Honda still restoring RC30s?
No. Honda’s RC30 Refresh Plan began in 2020 and ended on March 31, 2025; applications had already closed. Honda thanked participating owners and said resale of genuine RC30 parts would continue only while stock lasted. The refresh service should therefore be treated as a completed program, not a current way to send an RC30 to Honda for factory restoration.

Does Honda Heritage Works include the RC30?
Honda announced Honda Heritage Works on December 12, 2025, with a planned start date of April 1, 2026. The announcement described global sales of heritage parts and a restoration service in Japan, initially for the first-generation NSX, with plans to expand to other classic sports models. It did not confirm RC30 restoration at launch. Unless Honda issues a later model-specific announcement, owners should not assume the RC30 is included.

The right route depends on whether the priority is keeping a motorcycle rideable or preserving it as a collection piece. Honda dealer support is relevant when the required genuine part remains available; otherwise, owners may need to investigate specialist sourcing or independent classic-motorcycle expertise. Honda’s published information establishes its dealer channel and the limited-stock caveats, but it does not compare independent shops, prices, turnaround times, or restoration quality.
