Tesla no longer uses the old $100 Cybertruck reservation process described in many older guides. In the current U.S. configurator, you place a vehicle order, pay a $250 non-refundable Order Fee by card, and then complete the remaining steps through the Tesla app.
The exact configuration, price and delivery estimate depend on your location and Tesla’s available inventory. Here is the current ordering process and what to expect after you submit it.

How to preorder—or order—the Tesla Cybertruck
Tesla calls the process an order rather than a traditional refundable preorder. Start at the Cybertruck design page or go to Tesla’s Cybertruck page and select Order Now.

Use a Tesla Account if you already have one. If not, you can create one during the order process. Make sure the account email and password are ones you will continue using, because you will need the same account to access the order in the Tesla app.

2. Choose an available configuration
The current U.S. configurator lists the Cybertruck Premium All-Wheel Drive configuration at $79,990 before destination, taxes and other applicable charges. Tesla can change the available version and price, and the choices shown may differ by delivery location.
Enter your ZIP code in the Enter Delivery ZIP field. Tesla uses this information to show delivery details and an estimated timeline for your area.
3. Review equipment and options
Check the included equipment and any add-ons before moving to payment. The current configurator shows the following examples:

Optional equipment changes the vehicle balance. The Full Self-Driving subscription is a recurring charge rather than a one-time vehicle option, so check the terms displayed at checkout before selecting it.

4. Check Tesla’s price summary
For the current Premium All-Wheel Drive example, Tesla shows this breakdown:

Taxes, registration and other location-specific charges are not included in the $250 due today. The order fee is also not the full down payment. It is an immediate charge applied when the order is submitted, while the remaining balance is handled later.
5. Select “Order with Card”
Choose Order with Card and pay the $250 Order Fee by credit card. Tesla’s current configurator labels this amount as a Non-refundable Order Fee.

Do not rely on older articles that describe a $100 Cybertruck deposit. That information refers to an earlier reservation process and does not match the current checkout screen.

6. Install the Tesla app and complete the order tasks
After submitting the order:
- Download the Tesla app.
- Sign in with the same Tesla Account email address and password used for the order.
- Open the pending pre-delivery tasks.
- Provide the requested registration and delivery-location information.
- Complete additional requests for insurance, payment, financing or trade-in information when they appear.
Tesla says these details are required to move the order forward. Completing them promptly can help prevent avoidable delivery delays.
What happens after you place the order?
The Tesla app becomes the main place to check your order. It displays the latest estimated delivery timing, but that estimate is not a guarantee. Tesla says production, logistics, your location and vehicle availability can all change the date.
When Tesla assigns a vehicle and it is available, the company sends an app notification with instructions to schedule delivery. Depending on your location and eligibility, you may collect the Cybertruck at a Tesla location or receive it through delivery to your address.

Before delivery, Tesla may request your final payment method, insurance information, financing documents and trade-in details.

If you are trading in a vehicle, open the Tesla app’s pre-delivery tasks, select Trade-In, tap Yes, and enter the requested information.
Tesla says final payment can be made using an electronic check through the app, a wire transfer or a certified check at delivery. A certified check must include the reservation number and your name in the memo line. The final payment must come from one account.
Financing or leasing requires credit approval and is not available in every state. If eligible, you can apply for financing in the Tesla app after ordering.
Can you cancel a Cybertruck order?
Tesla’s published pages do not use perfectly consistent wording. The current configurator and general ordering instructions identify the $250 Order Fee as non-refundable. Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ, however, says a Cybertruck reservation can be canceled before delivery and the pre-order payment refunded.

Because of that conflict, review the order agreement and payment terms shown in your own checkout before assuming you will receive the fee back. If you decide to cancel, Tesla’s general app path is:
- Open Vehicle Details.
- Select Manage.
- Tap Request to cancel.
- Choose a cancellation reason.
- Select Submit Cancellation, then Yes, Cancel.
Cybertruck orders or reservations cannot be transferred to another person, according to Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ.

The current configurator labels the $250 fee non-refundable. Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ uses different wording about canceling before delivery and receiving a pre-order payment refund, so check the order agreement and payment terms displayed during your checkout.
How do I check my Cybertruck delivery date?
Sign in to the Tesla app using the Tesla Account used for the order. The app shows the latest estimated delivery timing and will notify you when a vehicle is assigned and delivery can be scheduled. Estimates can change.
Can I transfer my Cybertruck order to someone else?
No. Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ says Cybertruck reservations or orders cannot be transferred to another person.
The Bottom Line
To order a Cybertruck, use Tesla’s current configurator, enter your delivery ZIP code, choose the available configuration and options, then select Order with Card and pay the $250 Order Fee.
