Tesla does not publish a universal price for replacing a high-voltage battery pack. The one documented full invoice identified here is a dated example: in 2020, a Model 3 AWD repair using a remanufactured 75 kWh pack cost $13,500 for the pack plus $2,299.27 for labor, or $15,799.27 total. It followed vehicle damage and is not a current quote or a reliable price guide for another Tesla. Before budgeting for a replacement, check the warranty for your specific vehicle and request a diagnosis and estimate from Tesla.
What does a Tesla battery replacement cost?
There is no supported one-size-fits-all replacement price. Tesla’s public warranty information describes coverage but does not provide a general battery-pack price list. The final cost depends on the vehicle, the diagnosed problem, the repair scope and the pack supplied.

The 2020 invoice is useful only as a historical illustration. EV Model Compare reported $13,500 for a remanufactured 75 kWh pack and $2,299.27 in labor for a Model 3 AWD, totaling $15,799.27. The repair followed damage, and the article cautions that pack prices have changed. The $13,500 is the reported pack cost, not the installed total; neither figure establishes what Tesla or another shop would charge today.
Check warranty coverage before treating it as an out-of-pocket repair
Tesla’s current Vehicle Warranty page summarizes battery and drive unit coverage as eight years, subject to mileage limits and a minimum 70% battery-capacity retention guarantee. The mileage cap varies by model group:

| Model 3 RWD and Model Y RWD/AWD | 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first | 70% |

This is Tesla’s page summary as of September 30, 2026, not a substitute for the warranty delivered with an individual vehicle. The exact terms depend on the vehicle and its purchase date; Tesla says earlier purchases are subject to the warranty terms applicable at that time. A capacity decline alone should not be taken to mean a full replacement is automatically covered: Tesla’s terms and its diagnosis determine whether a repair qualifies.
How to get an estimate for your Tesla
- Review the vehicle’s warranty. Use the terms delivered with that specific Tesla to check the applicable time, mileage and coverage conditions.
- Request service in the Tesla app. Tesla says its Service team reviews appointment details, performs remote diagnostics and prepares an initial estimate. The estimate is available in the app under Service > View estimate.
- Wait for any required inspection. Some coverage decisions cannot be confirmed until Tesla inspects the vehicle in person. Tesla says repairs expected to be covered should appear as $0 on the initial estimate, but an inspection may change the determination.
- Review updated costs before authorizing work. Tesla says it will notify the owner of updated costs and will not perform service without approval.
An initial estimate is not necessarily a final diagnosis or confirmed coverage decision. If the issue requires an in-person inspection, use the updated estimate and coverage decision to understand your actual exposure.

Is Tesla’s Battery ESA an option?
Tesla offers a Battery Extended Service Agreement (ESA) for eligible Model 3 and Model Y vehicles while the original Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty is still active. It covers qualifying failures for up to 24 months or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. Tesla applies a $500 deductible per service visit involving one or more eligible repairs or a replacement.
Eligibility and current price are vehicle-specific and shown in the Tesla app. Tesla says there is no grace period after the original battery and drive unit warranty expires, so an owner considering the ESA needs to check eligibility before that coverage ends. The ESA is not a general promise to replace a battery for any loss of range or capacity; the agreement’s terms govern eligible failures.

Should you compare an independent repair quote?
Tesla permits non-warranty repairs at non-Tesla service centers, but warns that it is not responsible for issues caused by improper third-party repairs. The available sources do not establish a typical independent-shop price or verify savings from a particular provider.
For a meaningful comparison, ask Tesla and any qualified independent EV battery specialist to provide written estimates for the same repair scope. Confirm:

- Whether towing or transport is needed and included.
- Whether the work could affect existing warranty or other coverage.
Do not compare a pack-only figure with an installed quote, or assume two quotes cover the same parts, labor and warranty. Tesla’s warning about improper work also makes the provider’s experience with high-voltage Tesla systems relevant to the decision.
