Kelley Blue Book puts a 2023 Model Y at $27,600 trade-in or $29,800 resale. These are valuation estimates, not guaranteed offers; the model, mileage, condition, location, trim and valuation provider all matter.
Current estimates for 2023 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y
The figures below are estimates displayed on valuation pages accessed October 5, 2026. They describe different models and sale channels, so they should not be treated as interchangeable quotes or combined into one exact price.
| Vehicle and valuation provider | Trade-in estimate | Private-party or resale estimate | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 Tesla Model 3 — Edmunds | $23,767 | $25,827 private party | Example assumes no options, clean condition and about 12,000 miles driven annually. [Edmunds] |
| 2023 Tesla Model Y — Edmunds | $25,299 | $28,442 private party | Example assumes no options, clean condition and about 12,000 miles driven annually. [Edmunds] |
| 2023 Tesla Model Y — Kelley Blue Book | $27,600 | $29,800 resale | KBB estimate; its page notes that a specific vehicle’s value varies with mileage, condition, location and other factors. [Kelley Blue Book] |
Edmunds also displays broader value ranges for the 2023 Model 3 and Model Y; the estimate for an individual car depends on its configuration and details. The two providers’ Model Y estimates differ, which is a reason to compare current, vehicle-specific valuations rather than average the figures.
How to interpret the estimates
Trade-in is not the same as a private sale
A trade-in estimate describes a dealer trade-in valuation, while a private-party or resale estimate describes a different sale channel. In the cited examples, the private-party or resale figure is higher than the trade-in figure. The difference is not a promise of what a particular buyer or dealer will pay.

Model and configuration change the answer
The Model 3 and Model Y produce different estimates even when using the same provider and stated example assumptions. Trim, options and other configuration details also affect an individual vehicle’s value; the Edmunds example figures above specifically assume no options.
Mileage, condition and location matter
Edmunds’ examples assume clean condition and approximately 12,000 miles per year. A car with substantially different mileage or condition may not match those estimates. KBB likewise identifies mileage, condition and location among factors that can change an individual Model Y’s value.
Rank #2
What KBB says about Model Y depreciation
For its 2023 Tesla Model Y, Kelley Blue Book reports depreciation of $20,911, or 41%, over three years, alongside its $29,800 resale and $27,600 trade-in estimates. This is KBB’s reported figure for that model, not a depreciation rate for every Tesla, trim or ownership situation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to estimate your Tesla’s value
- Identify the exact model year, model, trim and options; a 2023 Model 3 and a 2023 Model Y are not equivalent valuation cases.
- Record the car’s mileage, condition and location accurately. These details can move a vehicle-specific estimate away from the examples shown here.
- Use a valuation tool to request estimates for the specific car, and compare trade-in with private-party or resale values only within the same sale channel.
- For an actual sale or purchase decision, compare vehicle-specific appraisals or offers. A guide estimate is not a guaranteed selling price.
The figures above are estimates shown on dynamic provider pages accessed October 5, 2026, not confirmed sale prices, appraisals for a particular VIN or independently tested valuations. Because those pages can change, check them directly for current figures.
