Not on the evidence available: there is no defined contest, like-for-like comparison, or documented sales result showing that Chinese manufacturers have beaten Harley-Davidson and Indian overall. What has changed is the range of Chinese V-twin cruiser projects and models, from the small Keeway V302C to much larger designs. Comparing them fairly means looking at the specific bike, market, price, support and evidence—not treating every cruiser as a single race.
Did China just beat Harley-Davidson and Indian?
No measurable win is established. “Beat” could mean lower price, stronger performance, better equipment, higher sales or simply a convincing design, and those are different comparisons. The available sources do not provide a like-for-like Chinese-versus-American road test or sales figures demonstrating that Chinese cruisers have overtaken Harley-Davidson or Indian.
That distinction matters because the bikes span very different classes and levels of availability. Harley-Davidson remains the most popular cruiser maker in Cycle World’s category overview, while Indian is described as a growing competitor. What Chinese V-twin cruiser is everyone talking about?
Keeway V302C: a small-displacement, export-market example
The Keeway V302C is one concrete example. BikeDekho identifies it as a rebadged Benda and describes it as a Chinese-origin cruiser. Its 298cc liquid-cooled V-twin is specified at 29.9 PS at 8,500 rpm and 26.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The bike has a six-speed transmission, belt final drive and a reported kerb weight of 167kg. These specifications make it a smaller machine, not a direct performance equivalent to large-displacement American cruisers.

BikeDekho describes the V302C as tractable in ordinary riding. Its own test recorded 29.06 km/l on the highway and 37.03 km/l in the city; those are the outlet’s test results, not guaranteed consumption figures for every rider or condition. BikeDekho’s Keeway V302C review
Other projects occupy very different territory
Chinese or Chinese-associated cruiser proposals are not one uniform category. MOTORRAD’s April 27, 2026 overview describes the Bashan BS1200-G as a newly registered hardtail project using a Shineray air-cooled V-twin. The registration figures it reports are 245kg, 61PS (45kW) and 120km/h. MOTORRAD says European arrival is unlikely, so registration should not be mistaken for broad retail availability.

The SWM Stormbreaker V 1200 was shown as a complete motorcycle in 2022, and an EU version for 2024 was presented with a €9,990 price. MOTORRAD describes its air-cooled Shineray engine as resembling the Harley Sportster Evolution motor. That relationship does not make the Stormbreaker a Harley-Davidson product.
MOTORRAD also reports a 1,979cc air-cooled X-Wedge twin with 100PS and 158Nm. Prices announced for China in 2024 started at 78,000 yuan—about €10,000 at the time of the report—and export plans were not known. Is the Keeway V302C a Harley copy?
It is a cruiser with styling that invites comparison, but the available product evidence does not establish that it is a copy of a particular Harley-Davidson. BikeDekho’s identification of the V302C as a rebadged Benda describes its manufacturer relationship; it does not establish that the bike is a Harley design. Visual resemblance alone cannot settle questions of design origin or intellectual property.
Nor should the V302C’s specifications be read as an attempt to match a large American cruiser on power or displacement. Its 298cc engine places it in a different class. The more useful comparison is what it offers in its own segment, and whether its price, equipment, comfort and local support make sense to a buyer in a particular country.

Can a Chinese cruiser compete with a Harley or Indian?
Potentially, depending on what “compete” means and which models are being compared. A smaller bike might compete on entry price or accessibility; a larger project might compete on displacement or styling. Neither comparison proves equivalent road performance, finish, dealer coverage or long-term ownership experience. The available sources do not establish one overall Chinese winner against Harley-Davidson or Indian.
Compare the same market and model year
Price is meaningful only when geography, model year and price basis match. For example, Hero MotoCorp published 2025 India prices on June 19, 2025: ₹13,51,000 ex-showroom for the Harley-Davidson Nightster and ₹2,39,500 for the X440. These are dated Indian prices for different Harley-Davidson models, not current 2026 prices and not a direct comparison with the Chinese models discussed above. Check more than displacement and styling
A useful model-to-model assessment should ask:
- Price: Is the figure for the same country and model year, and does it include the same taxes and charges?
- Engine and performance: Are displacement and architecture comparable, and are performance claims supported by comparable testing?
- Weight, comfort and ergonomics: Can you assess the bike for your height and riding conditions rather than infer comfort from photographs?
- Equipment and finish: Do the controls, instrumentation, suspension and other components suit your expectations?
- Ownership support: Are dealers, parts, warranty and servicing accessible where you live?
- Availability: Is the motorcycle on sale in your market, or is it a project, registration or announcement with uncertain export plans?
What are the V302C’s road-test strengths and drawbacks?
BikeDekho reports tractable everyday behavior and publishes its own mileage-test results, but its review also raises practical concerns. It criticizes the rear suspension’s response over sharp bumps, seat comfort and ergonomics for some rider heights. It notes limited instrumentation and vibrations at higher engine speeds.
The same review raised concerns about Keeway’s after-sales footprint in India and said longevity had not yet been established. Those are dated reviewer observations about the Indian context, not proof of current service coverage everywhere or a definitive reliability verdict. A buyer should check local dealer and parts access directly before treating a low purchase price as the full ownership cost.
