The GWM TANK 700 is Great Wall Motor’s flagship luxury off-road SUV, but calling it “China’s answer” to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an analogy—not proof that the two are equivalent. TANK 700 specifications, equipment, prices, and availability differ by market and trim. The available manufacturer information describes the vehicle; it does not establish a head-to-head verdict on capability, quality, or value.
What the GWM TANK 700 is
Great Wall Motor launched the TANK 700 Hi4-T in Beijing on 26 February 2024, presenting it as a flagship off-road model. GWM highlighted its 3.0T Hi4-T four-wheel-drive hybrid architecture alongside premium detailing, comfort, and off-road capability. The name does not identify one universal specification. China launch figures, Russia-market petrol and hybrid versions, and UAE-market equipment and warranty details describe different offerings. Check the specification and terms for the country and trim you are considering.
Specifications depend on market and trim
China: launch figures for the Hi4-T
In its 26 February 2024 China launch report, GWM listed a starting price of RMB 428,000 and described a 3.0T V6 paired with a 9HAT hybrid architecture. The company reported combined output of 385 kW and 800 N·m, with 850 N·m for the limited edition. Russia: petrol and parallel-hybrid versions
TANK Russia’s launch announcement lists Premium and Superior petrol versions with a 3.0-liter V6 rated at 354 hp and 560 N·m, paired with a nine-speed automatic. The manufacturer gives 0–100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, a maximum speed of 190 km/h, and average fuel consumption of 12.5 L/100 km under NEDC for this petrol model.
For the Russia-market Edition One parallel hybrid, the same announcement describes a 3.0-liter turbo V6 and an electric motor integrated into the transmission, with a 37.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and a stated electric range of 100 km. TANK Russia reports 422 hp combined output on a stated 30-minute basis, a 517 hp peak figure, 800 N·m, 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, a 190 km/h maximum speed, and average fuel consumption of 10.6 L/100 km. The Russia announcement lists petrol and hybrid lengths of 5,090 mm and 5,110 mm respectively, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase for both. It gives luggage capacity as 490 L for petrol and 392 L for hybrid, rising to 1,601 L and 1,530 L respectively with the second row folded.
Russia: off-road equipment varies by version
TANK Russia describes torque-on-demand four-wheel drive and front, rear, and center differential locks for its lineup. Adaptive air suspension is listed as available on Superior and Edition One. These details apply to the Russia-market versions described by the manufacturer; confirm equipment on the specific vehicle in another market or trim.

UAE: seats and warranty
The official UAE product page describes a five-seat flagship luxury off-road SUV. It states a six-year/200,000 km new-vehicle warranty and a separate 10-year/1,000,000 km engine and transmission warranty. Those are UAE-page terms and should not be assumed to apply elsewhere. GWM UAE TANK 700 page

GWM’s Middle East announcement said the TANK 700 became available in GWM showrooms across the UAE and wider Middle East from 6 December 2025, and that a Qatar debut was planned for the following month. It also described the model as already launched in China and entering overseas markets, including Eurasia and Kazakhstan. TANK Russia’s technical page, accessed on 8 October 2026, displayed prices from RUB 10,199,000 for Premium, RUB 11,399,000 for Techno Premium, and RUB 12,599,000 for E1. The page’s offer notes refer to 2025-production, 2024-model-year vehicles and trade-in benefits, with an offer date from 1 July 2026. Does the TANK 700 match the Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
The comparison makes sense as shorthand for the kind of vehicle: both names suggest large, premium off-road SUVs. But the available material does not provide a like-for-like test or comparable evidence establishing that the TANK 700 matches or surpasses the G-Class. It cannot settle relative off-road capability, price, reliability, quality, or resale value.

Without that evidence, “China’s answer” is best understood as a positioning analogy rather than a demonstrated equivalence.
