Guildford Road, between Mt Lawley and Bayswater, ranked third among metropolitan Perth’s top ten risky roads in RAC’s 2024 community survey. “Bronze” is an informal description of that third-place result—not a measured crash-risk ranking.
What RAC’s third-place ranking means
RAC’s 2024/25 results list Guildford Road (Mt Lawley to Bayswater) third among metropolitan Perth’s ten most-nominated risky roads. It sits behind Mitchell Freeway in West Perth and Archer Street in Carlisle, and ahead of Kwinana Freeway in Como. Those positions reflect nominations and reported concerns, not a comparison of crash rates.
RAC asked residents which roads or intersections they considered dangerous. The survey therefore records community concern; it is not an objective ranking based on crashes per vehicle, distance travelled or another measured crash-risk rate.

- Unsafe or poor pedestrian crossings.
- A lack of a median strip or other separation between traffic.
- Few opportunities to turn or cross traffic.
These are the issues associated with Guildford Road in RAC’s list, not findings from a uniform engineering audit of every road in the survey.
How many people took part—and what RAC said about crash experience
RAC reported more than 18,000 nominations statewide for its 2024 survey, calling that a record. The figure is nominations, not necessarily 18,000 distinct people.

RAC also said over 50 per cent of respondents had been involved in or witnessed a crash or near-miss at the road or intersection they nominated. That is RAC’s description of respondents’ experience at their nominated locations; it does not mean that over half of Guildford Road users had a crash or near-miss.

What was reported about planned works
In a February 26, 2025 report, PerthNow said traffic signals were planned for Seventh Avenue and upgrades for Eighth Avenue. It also reported that a Garratt Road signal project was scheduled for construction by July 2025, and that interim pedestrian crossing improvements at East Parade, Guildford Road and Whatley Crescent were being explored.
Those reports describe plans or exploration at the time, not proof of completion. The cited reporting does not establish the later status of any of these works.

PerthNow quoted residents describing Guildford Road as “an awful road” and saying, “If I can take a detour I will.” The report also recorded complaints about difficulty entering or exiting during peak periods. These are anecdotal comments from residents quoted in the article, not representative survey findings.
