Green Hills Software’s March 11, 2025 announcement added automotive and industrial microcontroller profiles to its µ-velOSity RTOS-based software environment. The offering combines the RTOS with middleware, peripheral drivers, development tools and safety evidence; it is an embedded engineering platform, not a consumer car product.
What Green Hills added for automotive microcontrollers
The center of the environment is µ-velOSity, a small real-time operating system (RTOS) with a simple API, floating-point unit (FPU) and memory protection unit (MPU) support. Green Hills describes the environment as a complete stack that also includes middleware, peripheral drivers and development tools.
The automotive and industrial profiles add production-oriented capabilities, including time-sensitive networking (TSN), diagnostics over IP, fail-safe wear-leveling file systems, Data Distribution Service (DDS), CDCF and system-on-chip-specific acceleration libraries. The announcement names those components but does not publish a universal compatibility matrix or independent performance results.
What safety certifications Green Hills names
In its March 11, 2025 announcement, Green Hills said TÜV NORD certifications cover ISO 26262 ASIL D, IEC 61508 SIL 3, EN 50128 SIL 4 and EN 50657 SIL 4. These standards address functional safety in different industries and contexts; ASIL D and SIL 3 or SIL 4 are not interchangeable ratings.

A certification claim for a software platform is not, by itself, proof that a finished vehicle or industrial product meets its safety obligations. Teams should confirm which exact components, versions and artifacts are covered, and what evidence and integration work are required for their target system. The announcement does not provide a complete public list of those details.
How the platform fits into development workflows
Green Hills lists integration with its MULTI IDE, History debugging and trace tools, safety-certified compilers and JTAG/Trace Probe. It also describes combining µ-velOSity with µ-visor and INTEGRITY for heterogeneous SoCs. That toolchain integration is relevant when a product combines different processor types or partitions software across them; project teams still need to verify support for their particular hardware and software configuration.

Which microcontroller ecosystems are mentioned
Green Hills’ announcements and partner materials identify examples across several MCU ecosystems. These references indicate current platform activity, not a guarantee that every feature or profile is available for every part in a family.
| Platform or ecosystem | What the cited announcement establishes |
|---|---|
| Infineon AURIX TC4x | Infineon and Green Hills announced an AURIX TC4x platform on April 2, 2024. |
| NXP S32 | Green Hills announced participation in NXP S32 CoreRide on April 3, 2024; the 2025 MCU announcement also points to NXP S32 platforms. |
| MIPS Atlas M8500 | MIPS and Green Hills announced an M8500 RISC-V MCU Safety SDK on March 9, 2026. |
| Other MCUs | Green Hills says customers should contact a local office about additional MCUs, including RH850 and TriCore; the announcement does not state a full compatibility matrix. |
Cybersecurity certification is a separate claim
In a separate announcement dated 2024, Green Hills said it had received ISO/SAE 21434 automotive-cybersecurity certification from exida. This is distinct from the functional-safety certifications listed above: organizations assessing a product should check which engineering processes and product scope the cybersecurity certification covers, rather than treating it as another ASIL or SIL rating.

What to check before selecting the platform
The right fit depends on the MCU, safety target and development requirements—not on a certification label alone. A project team can narrow the evaluation with these checks:
- Hardware: Confirm exact MCU part, core configuration, peripherals and required drivers with Green Hills or the relevant silicon partner.
- Safety goal: Match the applicable automotive, industrial or railway standard and target level to the specific software version and evidence package.
- Networking and middleware: Verify that the needed TSN, diagnostics-over-IP, DDS or other components are included and supported for the target.
- Toolchain: Check compiler, debugger, trace and heterogeneous-SoC integration requirements against the team’s workflow.
- Assurance and commercial terms: Ask for the certification scope, safety artifacts, support model and project-specific pricing. Public sources cited here do not state consumer pricing or comparative costs.
Is µ-velOSity sold on Amazon?
µ-velOSity is enterprise embedded software and engineering infrastructure, not a typical retail MCU kit. The sources cited here do not identify an Amazon listing or consumer purchase price; they direct customers seeking additional MCU support to contact a Green Hills local office.
