Goodyear plans to close its chemical manufacturing facilities in Niagara Falls, New York, and Bayport, Texas, as part of a rationalization plan that includes approximately 85 job reductions. The company expects the plan to be substantially complete by the end of 2027; the plants have not been described as already closed.

Goodyear approved the plan on September 29, 2026, according to its Form 8-K filed October 1, 2026. It covers the company’s chemical manufacturing facilities in Niagara Falls and Bayport and includes approximately 85 job reductions across the plan.

Timeline and estimated costs
Goodyear expects substantial completion by the end of 2027. That is the company’s projected schedule, not confirmation that either facility has already ceased operations.

The company estimates total pretax charges of $55 million to $75 million. Of that amount, approximately $30 million is expected to be cash charges, primarily for plant decommissioning, associate-related costs and other exit costs. The remaining charges are expected to be non-cash, primarily accelerated depreciation and other asset-related charges. These are company estimates in the filing, not confirmed final costs.
How the closures relate to Goodyear’s 2025 Chemical business sale
In May 2025, Goodyear announced the sale of most of its Chemical business to Gemspring Capital Management. At the time, it said it would retain the Niagara Falls and Bayport facilities and the rights to products made there. The transaction was completed effective October 31, 2025; Goodyear’s announcement said Houston and Beaumont facilities were included in the sale while Niagara Falls and Bayport remained with Goodyear. The later closure filing establishes a plan to close the two retained facilities, but does not explicitly say the earlier divestiture caused the decision. The two events should therefore be understood as separate steps in Goodyear’s portfolio changes, not as a stated cause-and-effect explanation.
