What happened at the Sand Drags event?
PerthNow reporter Tegan Guthrie reported on 21 November 2025 that a competitor was critically injured in a crash at about 9 p.m. on the Saturday of the event. The competitor was taken to Kalgoorlie Health Campus and declared dead there. The report did not provide a full name; the association’s condolence referred to the competitor as Glen. Where did the crash happen?
The crash occurred at the sand-drags track off Goldfields Highway, near Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The report notes an initial location discrepancy: police first told the Kalgoorlie Miner the death occurred at Kalgoorlie International Speedway, then confirmed on Wednesday that it happened at the nearby sand-drags track. The confirmed scene is the sand-drags track, not the speedway.
What did the association say?
The association said it was working closely with local authorities, its committee, event officials and relevant parties to ensure appropriate processes were followed. It expressed sympathy for Glen’s family and race team, and acknowledged the impact on competitors, spectators, volunteers, officials and the wider community. Was a report for the Coroner announced?
Yes. The contemporaneous report said WA Police would prepare a report for the Coroner. That describes the process announced at the time; it does not establish that police completed the report or that the Coroner has made findings.
The Coroners Court of Western Australia explains that a police investigation report provides medical and evidentiary detail needed for a coroner’s finding. Is there a confirmed investigation outcome?
As of 8 October 2026, the available sources do not confirm whether police completed their report, whether the Coroner made findings, or whether the association issued a later statement.
