Chevrolet confirmed on March 26, 2026, that the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport will use a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8 rated at 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. The earlier “leak” was a December 2025 report of an LS6 entry in GM’s parts catalog—not a performance test. The engine is now official; the catalog listing was an early clue.
What the parts-catalog leak revealed
In December 2025, GM Authority reported an LS6 listing in the GM Parts Book associated with the 2027 Grand Sport. The entry described an “ENGINE GAS, 8 CYL, 6.7L, DI, PFI, OHV, ALUM, GEN 6”—a 6.7-liter, Gen 6 aluminum V8 with direct and port fuel injection and overhead valves. At the time, the report said power figures had not surfaced. GM Authority’s December 2025 report was evidence of a catalog listing, not confirmation of published output.
On March 21, 2026, GM Authority reported that Chevrolet representatives had confirmed the Grand Sport’s return and a next-generation V8 at Sebring, with more details expected March 26. That report preceded Chevrolet’s official announcement five days later. Chevrolet’s release is the primary source for the production engine and specifications. Chevrolet’s March 26 announcement
Confirmed LS6 specifications
Chevrolet identifies the engine as a naturally aspirated, next-generation LS6 Gen 6 Small Block V8. It displaces 6.7 liters, or 409 cubic inches, and has a 13.0:1 compression ratio. GM News gives the rated peaks as 535 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 520 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm. GM News’ engine details

| Specification | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Configuration | Naturally aspirated Gen 6 LS6 Small Block V8 |
| Displacement | 6.7 liters / 409 cubic inches |
| Horsepower | 535 hp at 6,100 rpm, per GM News |
| Torque | 520 lb-ft at 4,600 rpm, per GM News |
| Compression ratio | 13.0:1 |
| Bore and stroke | 103.25 mm bore; 100 mm stroke |
Chevrolet lists a 95 mm throttle body, a tunnel-ram intake with high-velocity ports, a new lubrication system, forged pistons and connecting rods, and revised exhaust manifolds. The 100 mm stroke is longer than the 92 mm stroke of the 6.2-liter LT2 predecessor, according to GM News. Flint Engine Operations in Michigan will assemble the LS6 using U.S. and globally sourced parts.
Chevrolet calls the 520 lb-ft figure the highest torque of a naturally aspirated production V8 and describes the LS6 as the most powerful base engine ever offered in a Corvette. Those are manufacturer comparisons, not independently verified rankings. No independent dynamometer result or road-test measurement is established here. Chevrolet quoted Mike Kociba, assistant chief engineer for the next-generation V8, saying: “There is no replacement for displacement! Our next generation LS6 engine pushes 409 cubic inches of jackhammer fury through the tailpipes.”

Grand Sport, Grand Sport X and Stingray: where the LS6 fits
The LS6 is not exclusive to the standard Grand Sport: Chevrolet also says it powers the 2027 Stingray. The Grand Sport distinction is therefore not simply the engine name; Chevrolet’s announced versions differ in drivetrain and, for Grand Sport X, electrification and combined output.
| 2027 model | Powertrain and drivetrain | Published output |
|---|---|---|
| Corvette Grand Sport | Rear-mounted LS6 V8; rear-wheel drive; eight-speed dual-clutch transmission | 535 hp from the engine |
| Corvette Grand Sport X | LS6 plus front electric motor and battery; electric all-wheel drive | 721 hp combined, according to Chevrolet: 535 hp from the LS6 plus 186 hp from the eAWD drive unit |
| Corvette Stingray | Chevrolet says it also receives the LS6 | not stated in the cited announcement |
The 721-hp figure belongs to Grand Sport X’s combined system, not to the LS6 by itself. For the standard Grand Sport, Chevrolet estimates fuel economy at 15 mpg city, 23 highway and 17 combined; these are manufacturer estimates, not independent results.

What is—and is not—known from the announcement
Chevrolet’s release establishes the engine’s identity, headline specifications and announced powertrain configurations. It does not provide independent acceleration or dynamometer testing, real-world fuel economy, reliability evidence, pricing, dealer inventory or delivery timing. Those details should not be inferred from the parts-book listing or the manufacturer’s rated figures.
