GM’s split-window Corvette hypercar is a design study, not a production car available to buy. Revealed on April 7, 2025, by GM’s new UK advanced design studio, the concept reimagines the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray’s split-window cue as a structural center spine called “Apex Vision,” intended to provide a panoramic view. GM explicitly said the study had no production intention.
What is the GM Corvette hypercar concept with a split window?
It is a Corvette-inspired hypercar design study created by GM’s UK team in Royal Leamington Spa, England. GM said multiple studios were asked to develop hypercar concepts as a creative exercise, with each free to interpret Corvette’s design heritage. The UK concept was one entry in that exercise—not an announced future Corvette model.
The headline’s “split window” refers to the concept’s central structural spine, which GM calls Apex Vision. Design lead Julian Thomson said it was inspired by the iconic 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray split window and intended to give a panoramic view of the road and surroundings. It is not simply a reproduction of the 1963 car’s rear window.
How Apex Vision differs from the 1963 split window
The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray coupe’s distinctive split-window rear treatment appeared only in that model year, according to GM Heritage’s 1963 Corvette record. The UK concept borrows the visual idea of a dividing spine but gives it a different role: GM describes a central structural element associated with panoramic sightlines.

- Brand new box.
- Real rubber tires. Has opening doors.
- Detailed interior, exterior. Made of diecast with some plastic parts.
- Dimensions approximately L-7.5, W-3.5, H-2 inches.
That distinction matters because the concept’s design language does not establish that it would use the same window arrangement, structure or function as the historic coupe. It is a modern interpretation, not a claim that the original rear-window design has been brought back unchanged.
What GM disclosed about the concept’s design
GM described an aviation-influenced design with clean forms and muscular shapes. The upper half reinterprets classic Corvette cues in a futuristic way; the lower half emphasizes technical function, including battery technology embedded in the structure and aerodynamic elements intended to guide airflow without conventional wings or spoilers.

The April 7 announcement listed the following as concept assumptions, rather than finalized production specifications:
- Additive-manufactured body structure: intended to reduce mass, part count and manufacturing effort while supporting agility.
- Halo roof and center windshield spar: paired with wraparound side glass as part of the Apex Vision approach.
- Powered wing doors.
- Fan assistance and active ducting: intended to redirect airflow and contribute to the concept’s on-road and on-track aerodynamic behavior. GM did not report tested performance results.
- Sculpted underbody and lowered ride height: combined with fan assistance with the aim of producing ground effect.
- Pushrod suspension: described as racecar-inspired and package-efficient.
These details describe GM’s design direction, not verified engineering for a saleable vehicle. The announcement gives no production price, power output, acceleration, range, top speed, release date or sales plan for this UK study.

How it compares with the production Corvette ZR1
The UK concept and the production Corvette ZR1 use a split-window-inspired spine for different purposes and have different statuses. Chevrolet says the 2025 ZR1’s carbon-fiber spine between the rear windows helps extract heat from the engine compartment. GM, by contrast, described Apex Vision on the UK study as a structural central spine associated with panoramic vision, and said that study had no production intention.
| Vehicle or study | Status | Split-window-related feature |
|---|---|---|
| GM UK Corvette study | Design study; GM said it had no production intention. | Apex Vision central structural spine, inspired by the 1963 Sting Ray and intended to provide panoramic sightlines. |
| 2025 Corvette ZR1 | Production vehicle. | Carbon-fiber spine between the rear windows helps extract heat from the engine compartment. |
The ZR1 is not the production version of the UK concept. The shared visual reference does not make their engineering or purpose interchangeable.

How it fits into GM’s 2025 Corvette concept series
GM later revealed other studies in the broader 2025 creative exercise. They are separate concepts, not alternate specifications for the UK design.
- California Corvette: announced July 24, 2025, as a separate study and the second concept in the series; GM said it had no production intent. See GM’s California Corvette announcement.
- Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo: announced August 15, 2025. GM described them as the latest and last concepts in the 2025 series and said they were not intended for production. See GM’s CX and CX.R announcement.

Is the Corvette hypercar concept going on sale?
GM explicitly said the UK concept had no production intention. It should therefore be understood as a design study, not a model announced for ordering. The official announcement does not establish a price, production timetable or consumer specification.
