Among GMC’s SUVs with comparable recent Consumer Reports data, the Yukon has the least negative reliability assessment: it is rated “less reliable” than average, while the Terrain and Acadia are rated “much less reliable.” That is a limited comparison, not a complete ranking of every GMC SUV. Comparable ratings were not established for the Yukon XL or HUMMER EV SUV.
Which GMC SUV is most reliable?
For the 2026 model year, the Yukon is the least negatively rated of the three GMC SUVs with comparable Consumer Reports descriptions. CR calls the 2026 Yukon less reliable than average; it describes both the 2026 Terrain and Acadia as much less reliable than average. These are qualitative judgments, not numerical scores, and they do not establish that the Yukon is more reliable than every GMC SUV or every model year. Consumer Reports’ 2026 Yukon assessment, Terrain assessment, Acadia assessment
What can be ranked from the available evidence
| Position among models with comparable CR descriptions | Model and model year | Consumer Reports description |
|---|---|---|
| Least negative assessment | 2026 GMC Yukon | Less reliable than average |
| Not distinguishable from one another | 2026 GMC Terrain | Much less reliable than average |
| Not distinguishable from one another | 2026 GMC Acadia | Much less reliable than average |
CR’s available descriptions do not establish a reliable tie-breaker between Terrain and Acadia. They also do not provide individual numerical 0–100 scores in the material available for this comparison. A precise first-to-fifth ranking would imply evidence that is not available.
How the 2025 model-year judgments compare
The 2025 Consumer Reports descriptions follow the same broad pattern: Yukon is called less reliable than same-year vehicles, while Terrain and Acadia are each called much less reliable than same-year vehicles. These are comparisons with vehicles of the same model year, and they should not be treated as a lifetime verdict on every GMC Yukon, Terrain, or Acadia. CR says its reliability history uses its latest subscriber survey, covering about 380,000 vehicles, and examines 20 potential trouble spots, including engines, transmissions, and electrical accessories. The survey history is used to predict how vehicles may hold up in the year ahead; it is not a guarantee about an individual vehicle. CR’s retrieved methodology description does not state the survey year. Consumer Reports reliability methodology
Why another reliability ranking may favor Acadia and Terrain
J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study produced a more favorable signal for these models: its surfaced segment result placed the GMC Acadia highest in its segment and the Terrain among the next-ranked models. That does not directly cancel CR’s negative model-year assessments. A segment placement in one study and a forecast based on another source’s reliability history are different measures, cohorts, and comparisons. J.D. Power’s 2025 study result

J.D. Power’s 2026 study surveyed 33,268 original owners of 2023 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. That is evidence about those vehicles and their ownership period—not a direct reliability evaluation of 2026 GMC SUVs. The 2026 brand-level result does not provide a complete GMC model-by-model order. J.D. Power’s 2026 study
Consumer Reports’ brand overview says new and used GMC models rank below average in its reliability ratings. That is useful brand context, but a brand average cannot determine the reliability of a particular model, generation, or used vehicle. Consumer Reports GMC brand overview

Why Yukon XL and HUMMER EV SUV are not ranked
GMC’s U.S. lineup includes the Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Yukon XL, and HUMMER EV SUV. The available comparable model-level reliability descriptions cover the Terrain, Acadia, and Yukon, but do not establish ratings for the Yukon XL or HUMMER EV SUV. Those two models therefore belong in an “insufficient comparable evidence” category—not at the bottom of a reliability ranking. GMC’s U.S. SUV lineup

How to use these ratings when shopping
If you are buying new
- Use the rating for the exact model year you are considering. The evidence here does not justify extending a 2025 or 2026 assessment to earlier generations.
- Compare results only when the source, model year, and type of measure are clear. A brand average, a model forecast, and a segment award are not interchangeable.
- Do not treat reliability ratings as a prediction that every example will have problems—or that a better-rated model will be trouble-free.
If you are buying used
- Check the exact vehicle’s year, generation, mileage, maintenance records, and condition; broad model ratings cannot substitute for an inspection of that vehicle.
- Consider the evidence for the specific year rather than assuming a current-model assessment describes an older used SUV.
- Keep reliability separate from recall status. Recall counts and completion are separate questions, and the evidence cited here does not provide a recall comparison.
