Window controls and reset procedures vary by year and model, so use the GMC owner-manual lookup to select the matching manual before attempting a reset or buying parts.
Identify the window problem first
Note the model year, GMC model, trim if known, and which door is affected. Then describe what the glass does: it may be completely inoperative, intermittent, slow, noisy, move in only one direction, or work manually but not with one-touch/express operation. Also note whether the battery was recently disconnected, discharged, or replaced.
These details matter because an express-function reset is not a repair for a window that will not move at all. The vehicle-specific manual is the authority for the control layout and operating procedure.
If the window reverses while closing
Check the glass path for an obstruction and look for severe ice. GM owner manuals explain that an obstruction or severe icing can cause express-up operation to stop and reverse. Remove the cause, make sure people and objects are clear, and try closing the window normally.

Do not use express override as a routine workaround. The 2014 GMC Sierra Owner Manual warns: “If express override is activated, the window will not reverse automatically. You or others could be injured and the window could be damaged.” The manual also directs users to ensure that people and obstructions are clear before using override.
If one-touch or express-up stopped after battery service
Some GM manuals provide a reprogramming procedure for express-up after battery disconnection or discharge. The steps are vehicle-specific; do not assume one GMC-wide sequence applies to every model.

Example: 2014 GMC Sierra
For the 2014 Sierra, the owner manual describes this procedure:
- Close all doors.
- Place the ignition in ACC/ACCESSORY or ON/RUN/START.
- With the window open, pull the switch up until the window is fully closed.
- Continue holding the switch up for approximately two seconds.
This is an instruction for that manual’s vehicle, not a universal GMC reset. An older GM manual describes a different sequence that includes holding the switch through a full open cycle before closing. Check the manual for your exact year and model before trying any reset.

If the window does not move at all
First check whether one window or several are affected. If the vehicle has both a local door switch and driver’s master controls, compare the response at each. Whether a window responds to one control but not another can help narrow what needs diagnosis, but it does not by itself identify a failed component.
GM service information for a 2011 Acadia includes checks using local window switches and driver controls. That is application-specific diagnostic guidance, not a universal DIY test; further diagnosis may require electrical testing.

Check the correct fuse information
There is no universal GMC power-window fuse number or location established for all models. Consult the fuse section of the owner manual selected for your vehicle rather than swapping a guessed fuse.
Know when to stop and get help
Arrange qualified diagnosis if the correct fuse is intact but the window remains inoperative, or if you hear grinding, the glass is loose, a fuse repeatedly fails, or wiring is exposed. A symptom alone does not prove that the switch, motor, wiring, or regulator has failed.

Choose a replacement part only after diagnosis
A GMC power window regulator or regulator motor may be the appropriate replacement category when diagnosis confirms a fault in that assembly. GM service information includes regulator-motor replacement and programming material for specific applications, but no part number or fitment can be selected without the vehicle details.
Before ordering a vehicle-specific window regulator motor, confirm the model year, model, door, and equipment. If repair is confirmed and more than one suitable part is available, compare exact fitment, whether the assembly includes a motor or is regulator-only, warranty and return terms, and installation requirements.
Use manuals and service information for the right level of repair
GMC provides an owner-manual lookup by year, make, and model and directs owners to GM Service Information for service and diagnostic manuals. Owner manuals are the appropriate primary reference for controls and safety. Service procedures can be application-specific and may require tools, training, or vehicle-specific information.
