General Motors ended production of its BrightDrop electric delivery vans at CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll, Ontario, and said it would not move production to another plant. Announced October 21, 2025, the decision followed a suspension that began in May. GM attributed it to slower-than-expected growth in the commercial electric van market, underused CAMI capacity, a changing regulatory environment and the elimination of U.S. tax credits.
What GM ended—and what it did not say
GM confirmed that it was ending BrightDrop van production at CAMI Assembly. The company said production would not be transferred elsewhere; it would assess CAMI for future opportunities. The announcement does not say that BrightDrop vehicles already on the road would stop operating, nor does it specify what support existing owners and fleets will receive.
GM’s October 2025 announcement says production had been suspended since May 2025. The decision concerns manufacturing, not a confirmed end date for sales, parts, warranties or service.
Why GM says it made the decision
GM cited several factors: the commercial electric van market developed “much slower than expected,” CAMI was operating below capacity, the regulatory environment was changing, and U.S. tax credits had been eliminated. Those are the company’s stated reasons. The available official sources do not quantify the contribution of each factor or establish that any single one caused the decision.

Kristian Aquilina, president and managing director of GM Canada, said: “The decision to end production of the BrightDrop electric delivery van is driven by market demand and in no way reflects the commitment and skill of our workforce at CAMI,” according to GM’s announcement.
BrightDrop deliveries continued to appear in GM’s reports
GM’s October 1, 2026 U.S. deliveries report listed BrightDrop 400/600 deliveries even though production had ended. The report explicitly says its model totals include discontinued vehicles, so deliveries do not show that manufacturing resumed.

GM’s report footnote combines Chevrolet BrightDrop and BrightDrop Zevo 400/600 models. These are U.S. delivery figures, not production totals or a measure of current inventory. See GM’s Q3 2026 deliveries report.
How the van’s sales channel changed
BrightDrop launched in 2021 and was integrated into GM Envolve, GM’s fleet business, in 2023, according to the company. On August 29, 2024, GM announced that the BrightDrop 400 and 600 would be sold under the Chevrolet name through qualifying Chevrolet commercial dealers, with service available at participating certified dealerships. At that time, GM said CAMI production would continue.

That dealer announcement predates the production-end decision. It describes the channel GM announced in 2024, not a guarantee of current purchase availability or service terms. The 2026 delivery report uses both Chevrolet BrightDrop and BrightDrop Zevo names. The 2024 announcement is available from GM.
What buyers and fleet operators can verify
The official sources reviewed do not establish whether new or used vans are currently available, how warranty claims are handled after production ends, how long parts will be supplied, or which dealers currently service existing fleets. Production ending alone does not answer those questions. A buyer or fleet manager should confirm availability and support directly with GM or a participating Chevrolet commercial dealer before making a purchase or maintenance decision.

GM’s October 2025 SEC filing says the company decided that month to stop producing BrightDrop EVs. It also reports $1.6 billion in GM North America charges in Q3 2025 related to strategic EV capacity realignment. That figure covers broader EV capacity actions; it is not a BrightDrop-only cost. The filing provides financial and manufacturing context, but does not assign a specific portion of the charge to the van. Read the filing.
