When did Alijah Arenas wake up?

Arenas’ family said on April 25 that he had awakened from the induced coma and was making significant progress. The Associated Press later reported that he had been released from the hospital on April 30, six days after the crash. [c002][c004]

In a later public account on June 24, Arenas described trying to escape the burning vehicle, struggling to get out, and trying to remain conscious while waiting for help. Those comments provide Arenas’ own account of the emergency, but they do not supply a complete medical record or an official reconstruction of the crash. [c003]

Was a Cybertruck steering malfunction confirmed as the cause?

No official mechanical cause is established in the reviewed public reporting. On May 19, Gilbert Arenas said that a steering-wheel malfunction caused the crash and rejected the suggestion that his son had fallen asleep. That is a statement from Arenas’ father and should be described as the family’s account—not as a confirmed finding by investigators or Tesla. [c006]

Unless an official investigation, police report, recall finding, or technical report establishes otherwise, it would be premature to say that the Cybertruck malfunctioned or that a particular component caused the collision. The public information reviewed also does not establish that the vehicle’s windows, doors, steering system, or design caused the outcome.

Alijah Arenas’ USC basketball status

Alijah Arenas is a guard from Woodland Hills, California. He attended Chatsworth High School and plays for the USC Trojans. USC reported that he missed the first 18 games of the 2025–26 season because of a knee injury, then returned for 14 games and averaged 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. [c007][c008]

USC announced on April 28, 2026, that Arenas would return for the 2026–27 season. USC’s official roster lists him as a sophomore for that season. His return to basketball is an important later update, but it should not be treated as a substitute for a detailed medical prognosis or as proof that every aspect of his recovery was complete. Separate vehicle-safety context: Cybertruck accessories

This crash should not be used to imply that an accessory would have prevented the collision, reduced Arenas’ injuries, or guaranteed a safe escape. For owners researching routine vehicle equipment, Tesla’s official catalog includes Cybertruck-specific products such as floor liners, mats, storage items, tire-repair equipment, a tool kit, wiper blades, and a HEPA filter. Marketplace availability, fitment, prices, and affiliate eligibility can change, so each listing should be checked before purchase. [c009][c010]

A vehicle emergency-escape tool may be relevant to a separate general safety explainer, especially because this incident involved a vehicle fire. It should not be presented as a product that would have prevented this crash or guaranteed that anyone could escape. Compatibility with laminated or other specialized vehicle glass must be independently verified before relying on a tool in an emergency. [c003][c010]
