In the United States, a new Genesis generally has a 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty, but that is not an all-repairs guarantee. Coverage depends on the failed part, the vehicle’s model year and in-service date, mileage, use, and owner status. The advertised 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain term generally applies to the original owner, while routine maintenance and ordinary wear are usually excluded.
This guide follows Genesis Motor America’s 2026 warranty handbook for U.S.-specification vehicles registered and normally operated in the 50 states or Washington, D.C. Warranty terms differ in other countries. For an individual vehicle, check its model-year handbook and original in-service date.
Genesis warranty coverage at a glance
Genesis warranties generally cover eligible defects in materials or workmanship under normal use and maintenance, subject to exclusions and component-specific limits. The periods below are U.S. terms; the exact handbook and vehicle history determine what remains for a particular car.
| Coverage | Headline term | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| New Vehicle Limited Warranty | 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first | Applies to eligible originally manufactured or installed components found defective in material or workmanship under normal use and maintenance; exclusions apply. Genesis warranty overview; 2026 Warranty Information & Owner’s Handbook. |
| Powertrain | 10 years or 100,000 miles for the original owner | For the original owner, the separate period begins after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and covers listed engine and transmission/transaxle parts. It is generally not transferable; commercial use is excluded. The handbook defines the covered components. |
| EV battery and listed EV-specific components | 10 years or 100,000 miles | Applies to components specified in the handbook. Battery capacity coverage has a stated 70%-of-original-capacity threshold; other gradual degradation and battery-damage exclusions are treated separately. |
| Anti-perforation | 7 years, unlimited miles | Covers body sheet metal that rusts completely through because of a material or workmanship defect—not all surface rust or corrosion. |
| Emissions | Generally 5 years/60,000 miles; select major components up to 8 years/80,000 miles | Covered parts and provisions vary, including under federal and California requirements. Check the vehicle-specific handbook and applicable state section. Genesis overview. |
| Genesis Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) | Up to 6 years/75,000 miles comprehensive and up to 10 years/100,000 miles powertrain | Both periods are measured from the original owner’s purchase date. Confirm the specific vehicle’s CPO status and remaining coverage. Genesis overview. |
| Complimentary scheduled maintenance | 36 months for new vehicles | A separate service benefit, not an extension of defect-repair coverage. Genesis overview. |
| Roadside assistance | 60 months/unlimited miles for new 2026 vehicles | A separate service benefit. Eligibility, services, and exclusions are set out in the handbook. |
What the New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers
The 2026 handbook describes coverage for repair or replacement of an originally manufactured or installed component found defective in material or workmanship under normal use and maintenance, except items specifically excluded. If a warrantable defect makes the vehicle inoperable, towing to the nearest Genesis retailer or authorized service facility is covered under the handbook terms.

Some parts have their own shorter periods or conditions, so the headline five-year/60,000-mile term does not describe every item:
- Original-equipment battery: defects are covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles.
- Manufacturing-deficiency adjustments: most are limited to 1 year or 12,000 miles.
- Refrigerant charge: covered for 1 year without a mileage limit, unless it is part of another covered repair.
- Radio, sound, Bluetooth, and navigation systems: 5 years or 60,000 miles.
- Paint repairs: 3 years or 36,000 miles; minor cosmetic imperfections visible at delivery have a 1-year/12,000-mile provision.
These are handbook provisions, not a promise that every issue involving one of these systems qualifies. The defect, cause, and relevant handbook terms still matter.
What the powertrain warranty covers—and who gets it
The 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain headline is not a fresh term for every later owner. Under the 2026 handbook, the separate powertrain period applies to the original owner after the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covers only listed parts, and is generally nontransferable. The handbook provides a stated spouse exception. Commercial uses such as taxi, route delivery, or rental are excluded from this original-owner powertrain warranty.

Do not assume every part loosely described as part of the drivetrain qualifies; use the full list in the vehicle’s handbook.

Genesis lists 10 years or 100,000 miles for the high-voltage battery and specified EV components directly attached to or integral to battery operation. The handbook’s examples include the battery management system, blower assembly, electronic air compressor, power relay assembly, traction motor, on-board charger, and electric power control unit.
The capacity provision is not a guarantee that an EV will never lose range. The handbook states a 70% threshold of original capacity in its battery-capacity coverage passage and separately addresses gradual capacity loss and damage exclusions. Whether a particular battery concern qualifies depends on the handbook’s terms and the facts of the case.

What Genesis warranty coverage does not include
Genesis’s overview and handbook exclude or limit coverage for several common repair categories. A claim may turn on the cause of the problem and the specific component, rather than simply the symptom.
- Routine maintenance: cleaning and polishing, lubrication, oil and fluid changes, filters, coolant replenishment, wheel alignment, and tire rotation are generally not covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty unless performed as part of a warrantable repair or covered by a Genesis Maintenance Program.
- Normal wear: naturally wearing items, including tires and fluids, are generally excluded, subject to the overview’s stated brake and wiper-blade exceptions. Wear items may be covered when replacement results from a materials/workmanship defect and falls within the handbook’s limited period or first scheduled replacement interval.
- Accident or collision damage: damage caused by a collision is not ordinary defect coverage.
- Misuse and off-road use: damage connected to misuse or off-road misuse may be excluded.
- Extreme conditions: exposure-related damage may fall outside coverage under the handbook.
- Modifications or alterations: aftermarket changes affecting vehicle systems or performance may affect coverage for a related claim. The overview does not establish that any modification automatically cancels every warranty; Genesis evaluates the claim under the applicable terms.
- Rust and corrosion outside the defined protection: anti-perforation protection is for qualifying rust-through caused by a material or workmanship defect, not every surface corrosion issue. The handbook separately addresses paint coverage for certain surface corrosion.
Genesis Motor America reserves final warranty decisions. The fact that a repair is excluded from the New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not by itself determine whether a separate benefit or other coverage applies.

The handbook says the New Vehicle Limited, anti-perforation, emissions, and replacement-parts/accessories coverages described there transfer with the vehicle. A later owner generally receives only the remaining applicable New Vehicle Limited Warranty powertrain coverage—not a new 10-year/100,000-mile original-owner term.

A CPO Genesis has separate advertised limits: up to 6 years/75,000 miles comprehensive and up to 10 years/100,000 miles powertrain, both measured from the original owner’s purchase date. These are maximums, not confirmation that a particular used car is certified or has that much coverage left. Ask Genesis to verify its CPO status, dates, and remaining coverage.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Maintenance and roadside assistance are separate benefits
Genesis’s U.S. overview says new vehicles include 36 months of complimentary scheduled maintenance. This benefit does not make routine service a warranty repair; the handbook excludes ordinary maintenance unless it is part of a warrantable repair or covered by a Genesis Maintenance Program.
Roadside assistance is also not a warranty. The 2026 handbook provides 60 months/unlimited miles for new vehicles, starting on the earlier of delivery to the first retail buyer or first in-service use. Listed services include towing to a Genesis retailer or authorized service facility when the vehicle is inoperable, jump-starts, a flat-tire change when a spare is supplied, lockout service, and up to three gallons of fuel where permitted. The handbook also describes limited trip-interruption assistance for qualifying warrantable disablements more than 150 miles from home. Off-road locations and certain accident, abuse, racing, vandalism, and other non-warranty costs are excluded.

How to check a repair or start a claim
Before arranging a warranty assessment, gather the information that lets a retailer identify the right terms and vehicle history:
- Confirm the applicable terms: identify the model year and locate its warranty handbook. The 2026 handbook applies to U.S.-specification vehicles distributed by Genesis Motor America and registered and normally operated in the 50 states or Washington, D.C.
- Check the dates and mileage: find the original in-service date and current odometer reading. Coverage periods end at the stated time or mileage limit, whichever comes first.
- Clarify ownership and use: note whether you are the original owner, whether the vehicle is CPO, and whether it has had commercial use or modifications relevant to the issue.
- Document the concern: describe the symptom and when it occurs; bring maintenance records, which may be needed to demonstrate required maintenance.
- Contact a Genesis retailer: Genesis directs owners to a retailer to begin a claim. Present the VIN, mileage, relevant dates, service records, and symptom description, and ask the retailer to check the applicable handbook terms.
Genesis lists proper use, maintenance, and care according to the handbook and Owner’s Manual, keeping service records, presenting the vehicle during regular service hours, and checking trim, paint, and appearance at delivery among owner responsibilities.
