Geely’s current China-market specifications list up to 235 km (about 146 miles) of CLTC pure-electric range, while the automaker itself claims 47.26% thermal efficiency for its EM-i hybrid engine.
Is the Geely Galaxy A7 an EV or a hybrid?
It is a plug-in hybrid sedan. Geely’s official Galaxy A7 specifications list a 1.5 L PFI gasoline engine, a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor and a plug-in hybrid system. The headline’s use of “EV” can therefore be misleading if read as battery-electric: the car has both an engine and a rechargeable battery.
That distinction matters because the range headline combines two different energy sources. Pure-electric range is the distance available before the car must rely on fuel; combined range includes driving with both the battery and gasoline in the overall journey.
What does the 1,300-mile range claim mean?
A June 2025 report by Interesting Engineering described a launch-era claim of more than 2,100 km of combined range—about 1,305 miles. That is the source of the rounded 1,300-mile headline. It is a manufacturer-reported combined-range claim, not an all-electric rating.

Geely’s current product page lists trim-specific pure-electric figures rather than repeating the 2,100 km combined-range figure. The reviewed sources do not independently verify the launch claim in a road test, so it is accurate to say Geely’s claim was reported, but not to present 1,300 miles as an independently demonstrated result. The available reporting also does not establish a test-cycle context for that combined figure.
How far can it travel on electricity alone?
Geely lists CLTC pure-electric range of 150 km or 235 km, depending on trim. Those convert to about 93 miles and 146 miles respectively, but the underlying ratings are Chinese CLTC-cycle figures, not guarantees of the same distance in everyday driving.

These figures are from Geely’s current official China-market specification table. The listed fuel-consumption values apply to depleted-battery operation under CLTC, a different measure from either pure-electric range or the launch-era combined-range claim. Geely cautions that actual results vary with driving habits, roads and weather, and that specifications can differ by trim and delivered configuration.
What does 47% thermal efficiency mean?
Geely says its EM-i Super Hybrid engine achieves 47.26% thermal efficiency and claims 95% waste-heat recovery on its GEA Architecture technology page. Thermal efficiency describes how effectively an engine converts fuel energy into useful work; it is not the car’s fuel economy and does not mean that 47% of the trip is electric.

Both figures are Geely’s own claims. The reviewed sources do not provide independent validation, a measurement protocol or directly comparable competitor test results, so the percentage should not be treated as a verified comparative ranking.

Geely lists a 1.5 L PFI engine rated at 82 kW and 136 N·m, and a front-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor rated at 175 kW and 262 N·m, with front-wheel drive. Listed charging hardware varies by trim: AC charging is shown at 3.3 or 6.6 kW, while DC charging is listed at 37 or 75 kW; the corresponding stated 30%–80% DC charge times are 18 or 15 minutes. Check the precise trim specification before relying on a charging figure.

The official page lists five trims—150 km Enjoy, 150 km Qihang, 150 km Explore, 235 km Explore+ and 235 km Starship—and guide prices of RMB 97,800, 103,800, 113,800, 124,800 and 131,800 respectively. It also displays lower introductory prices, but those are time-limited promotions and should be confirmed with an authorized dealer. How should you compare the A7’s range with other cars?
- Compare combined range only with another combined-range figure, and pure-electric range only with a pure-electric figure.
- Keep test cycles aligned. The A7’s published electric-range and depleted-battery fuel-consumption figures use CLTC; do not treat them as equivalent to WLTP or EPA ratings.
- Compare the same model year and trim, including battery size, charging specifications, price and equipment.
- Check local availability, certification and warranty separately. The cited specifications are China-market information and do not establish that the car is sold or certified in another country.
