The best reasons to wait for a 2026–2029 vehicle are not limited to electric cars. The most credible launches include affordable EVs such as the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt and Ford’s upcoming electric pickup, three-row electric SUVs such as the 2027 Toyota Highlander BEV, next-generation hybrids from Honda, Mazda, and Kia, and high-end electric vehicles including the Porsche Cayenne Electric, Range Rover Electric, and Ferrari’s first EV.

This guide covers major manufacturers with confirmed or credible programs relevant to U.S. shoppers, while identifying vehicles intended for other regions. It separates production vehicles from concepts, strategy announcements, rumors, and canceled programs. Information and timing reflect the manufacturer announcements available as of August 10, 2026.

How to use this future-car guide

A model-year date is not the same as a calendar-year arrival. A 2027 model can reach showrooms during late 2026, as with the Chevrolet Bolt and BMW iX3. Conversely, a manufacturer’s target to begin production in 2027 does not guarantee that most customers will receive their vehicles that year.

Each vehicle below belongs to one of these categories:

Best future cars by buyer type

Best affordable electric car: Chevrolet Bolt

The returning Bolt is the clearest near-term answer for shoppers who want an inexpensive EV rather than a luxury crossover. The 2027 model uses a 65-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, supports more than 150 kW of DC fast charging, uses the North American Charging Standard natively, and has a GM-estimated range of approximately 262 miles. GM says a 10-to-80-percent charge can take roughly 25 to 26 minutes under suitable conditions.

GM first announced an initial launch price of $29,990 and later published an LT starting MSRP of $28,995. That is a meaningful distinction: the lower figure is the later published price, not a guarantee that every dealer will sell one at that number. GM also describes vehicle-to-home capability when the vehicle is paired with GM Energy equipment. The Bolt is a 2027 model that began customer shipments in early 2026, making it a near-term purchase rather than a vehicle years away. See GM’s pricing and technology explanation.

Wait for it if: low purchase price, everyday range, and native NACS charging are your priorities. Buy something else now if: you need a larger cabin, substantial towing capacity, or a proven long-distance charging record immediately.

Best affordable electric pickup: Ford’s unnamed midsize truck

Ford has announced a four-door electric midsize pickup as the first vehicle on its Universal EV Platform. Production is planned at Louisville Assembly Plant beginning in 2027 for U.S. and export markets. Ford has described a target starting price of approximately $30,000 in the United States, but has not finalized the model name, EPA range, production specifications, or MSRP.

The truck will use LFP prismatic batteries and a manufacturing process intended to reduce battery and assembly costs. If Ford reaches its price target, it could be more relevant to compact-truck buyers than the substantially more expensive F-150 Lightning. It would directly challenge the practical appeal of the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, although its price and availability remain targets rather than promises. Ford’s platform announcement is the primary source.

Wait for it if: you want an electric truck but cannot justify full-size-truck pricing. Do not delay a necessary purchase solely for it if: your budget depends on the $30,000 target or you need confirmed towing, payload, and range figures now.

Best family EV: Toyota Highlander BEV

Toyota’s all-new 2027 Highlander BEV is one of the most important mainstream launches in this period. It is a three-row battery-electric SUV with seating for up to seven, vehicle-to-load capability, and a 95.8-kWh battery on specified all-wheel-drive versions. Toyota estimates up to 320 miles of range for XLE AWD and Limited AWD configurations. The vehicle will be assembled in Kentucky using battery modules assembled at Toyota’s North Carolina battery plant.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is the strongest waiting candidate for a family that specifically wants a Toyota-branded three-row EV. It may also make sense for shoppers considering a current three-row electric SUV such as the Kia EV9 or Hyundai Ioniq 9 but who prefer Toyota’s dealer network and hybrid-heavy ecosystem. The 320-mile figure is a Toyota estimate, not an independent test result, and trim-specific range will matter.

Wait for it if: you need three rows and want a mainstream battery-electric SUV. Buy now if: you require a vehicle before the 2027 launch or want today’s established EV choices and verified real-world data.

Best new hybrid SUVs: Mazda CX-5 Hybrid, Kia Telluride Hybrid, and Honda’s next-generation hybrids

The future-car market is shifting toward powertrain choice rather than an EV-only lineup. Mazda confirms a hybrid CX-5 for 2027, combining Mazda’s own hybrid system with Skyactiv-Z technology. The all-new 2026 CX-5 launches first with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, standard all-wheel drive, more interior space, and Google built-in technology. If fuel economy matters more than immediate delivery, delaying a 2026 CX-5 purchase for the 2027 hybrid is reasonable.

The all-new 2027 Kia Telluride also has a hybrid version planned. Kia began production of the second-generation three-row SUV in Georgia in February 2026. The new Telluride adds a turbocharged gasoline engine, more passenger space, and an X-Pro trim with 9.1 inches of ground clearance. Kia has not supplied every hybrid specification in the cited announcement, so buyers should wait for final pricing, towing, and fuel-economy data before comparing it directly with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Honda is pursuing the broadest hybrid reset. Beginning in 2027, it plans to launch next-generation hybrids using a new hybrid system and platform, with 15 next-generation hybrid models globally by the end of fiscal 2029/30. North America is a primary region, and large D-segment-and-above hybrid vehicles are planned for 2029. Honda has shown a Hybrid Sedan Prototype and Acura a Hybrid SUV Prototype, but production names and exact dates remain unknown. This is a reason to watch Honda, not a reason to postpone buying a vehicle indefinitely.

Best electric luxury SUV choices

  • Porsche Cayenne Electric: the performance leader on paper, with up to 1,139 horsepower, a claimed 2.4-second 0–60 mph time, 400-kW charging, and up to 7,716 pounds of towing when properly equipped. The gasoline and plug-in-hybrid Cayenne continue alongside it. The Cayenne S Electric starts at $126,300 before Porsche’s delivery, processing, and handling fee, with deliveries expected at the end of summer 2026. Those figures come from Porsche’s U.S. announcement.
  • Range Rover Electric: scheduled for 2026 and backed by production-line preparation and prototype testing. It is the natural wait for buyers who want Range Rover luxury and off-road identity without an internal-combustion engine.
  • Lucid Gravity and Cosmos: the Gravity is already moving beyond its initial launch, with a 2027 lineup adding standard features. The smaller Cosmos is targeted for 2027 and forms part of Lucid’s midsize expansion. The follow-on Lucid Earth and a third midsize model have less certain timing.

Best performance-car waits

  • Ferrari’s first EV: deliveries are scheduled for late 2026. Ferrari says it expects four new model launches per year from 2026 through 2030 and projects a 2030 mix of approximately 40 percent ICE, 40 percent hybrid, and 20 percent electric. Final specifications and pricing should be treated as pending.
  • BMW i3: BMW expects to reveal the electric sports sedan in late 2026 and bring it to the United States in 2027. It will be the second major Neue Klasse model after the iX3. BMW’s future electric M3 is part of the broader direction, but its exact launch timing is not confirmed.
  • Dodge Charger SIXPACK: the gasoline two-door Charger is part of Stellantis’ 2026 North American reset. It is a near-term performance car, not a distant redesign.
  • 2027 Chevrolet Corvette: the new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 is announced for the 2027 Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X. This is an important engine update, not an all-new Corvette generation.

New and important vehicles arriving in 2026

Several of the most interesting 2026 arrivals are technically 2027 model-year vehicles. Shop by expected customer availability, not the number on the window sticker.

Vehicle Powertrain and key facts What waiting means
2027 Chevrolet Bolt 65-kWh LFP battery, approximately 262 miles of GM-estimated range, more than 150-kW DC charging, native NACS, about $28,995 starting MSRP Already entering the market in calendar 2026
2027 BMW iX3 Neue Klasse EV, 800 volts, up to 400 kW DC charging, up to 434 miles of EPA-estimated range, $61,500 plus $1,350 destination U.S. launch scheduled for September 25, 2026; the range figure is configuration-dependent
2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric Up to 1,139 horsepower and 400-kW charging; gasoline and plug-in-hybrid versions remain available Worth waiting for if you want the Cayenne’s performance and towing in an EV
Third-generation Nissan Leaf More practical global EV intended to broaden the Leaf’s appeal Production has started in the United Kingdom and Japan; U.S. trim and timing should be confirmed locally
2026 Subaru Trailseeker All-electric crossover, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, up to 375 horsepower, more than 280 miles of available range, 8.5 inches of ground clearance Already a 2026-market vehicle
2026 Subaru Uncharted Smaller electric Subaru crossover Already arriving; do not treat it as a 2027 promise
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N High-performance electric sedan arriving later in the 2026 model year New performance derivative, not a replacement for the discontinued conventional U.S. Ioniq 6 lineup
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Large three-row EV; 2027 Calligraphy Black Ink variant assembled in Georgia Already new for 2026 and a current alternative to waiting for the Highlander BEV
2026 Lexus ES Redesigned sedan offered with hybrid and battery-electric powertrains Regional rollout began in 2026
Polestar 5 Electric grand-tourer Deliveries expected from summer 2026; expensive and less relevant to mainstream buyers
Range Rover Electric Battery-electric luxury SUV Scheduled for 2026, but production ramp and regional allocations will determine actual deliveries
Jaguar Type 01 Electric four-door GT and first production model of Jaguar’s electric-only relaunch Reveal planned for 2026; customer-delivery timing is less certain
Ferrari first EV First battery-electric Ferrari Deliveries scheduled for late 2026; final retail details are not all public
Rivian R2 Performance trim targeted for spring 2026 at $57,990; Premium late 2026 at $53,990 Active launch; lower-priced versions follow in 2027

The most consequential 2027 launches

Ford: affordable electric midsize pickup

Ford’s Universal EV Platform will underpin a new electric midsize pickup built in Louisville beginning in 2027. LFP prismatic batteries and simplified manufacturing are intended to make it cheaper to build. Ford’s approximately $30,000 target is the most important number, but it is not a finalized MSRP. The final name, EPA range, towing, payload, and trim walk remain unknown.

Revell 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 429 James Bond 007 Model Kit - 1:25 Scale
  • Revell Model Kit #14555, Skill Level 4, Contains 121-Parts, Recommended for ages 12 and up
  • All new tooling. Big-block 429 Cobra Jet V-8 engine. Highly detailed engine compartment features many separate components.
  • Interior includes separate door panels. Tampo-printed whitewall tires.
  • Film-correct details include Mach 1 equipment with a body-color front bumper, a honeycomb-trimmed taillight panel, “baloney-cut” exhaust tips, a Ram Air hood without hood locks, and flat hub caps.
  • Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires. Requires paint and glue. (Not included)

Ford has not formally confirmed an electric Bronco, Ranchero, affordable crossover, or new Mustang variant for this period. Renderings and reports should remain in a watchlist rather than the confirmed list.

General Motors: Bolt, Sierra, Corvette, and an unnamed Buick

The Bolt is GM’s affordable EV play. The next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is the conventional-truck alternative, expected to launch in late 2026 with new V8 engines, revised styling, updated interior technology, and revised off-road and luxury variants.

Performance buyers should note the 6.7-liter LS6 V8 for the 2027 Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X. GM has also discussed a future Buick compact SUV in connection with Bolt production preparations, but the available official source does not give it a name, price, or launch date.

Stellantis: many launches, but not a complete public model list

Stellantis says it plans more than 60 new vehicle launches and 50 significant refreshes between 2026 and 2030. The mix includes BEVs, plug-in hybrids, range-extended EVs, conventional hybrids, internal-combustion vehicles, and mild hybrids. A complete model-by-model roadmap is expected in December 2026, so the corporate program is best labeled strategy only.

The individual North American programs with enough public support to mention are:

  • Dodge Charger SIXPACK: gasoline-powered two-door Charger planned as part of the 2026 reset.
  • Jeep Cherokee: confirmed to return, with the next-generation Compass also announced. Exact specifications and timing require current Jeep confirmation.
  • 2027 Chrysler Pacifica: refreshed styling and technology with continued Stow ’n Go seating; this is not an all-new minivan generation.
  • 2027 Ram Rumble Bee: officially referenced in investor materials, but body style, engine, price, and availability remain pending.
  • Maserati: two new E-segment vehicles are in the strategy, but the detailed roadmap is not expected until December 2026.

Important correction: the previously planned Ram 1500 REV battery-electric pickup was canceled as part of Stellantis’ strategy reset. Do not carry it forward as a confirmed future vehicle.

Tesla: the Roadster is official, but not schedulable

Tesla still maintains an official Roadster page claiming a 1.9-second 0–60 mph time, more than 250 mph of top speed, 620 miles of claimed range, four seats, and a removable glass roof. The page does not give a firm customer-delivery date. The Roadster therefore belongs in the category officially maintained, timing unconfirmed.

Those figures are Tesla claims, not independently verified results. Unnamed Tesla products and rumored low-cost models should not be described as confirmed without a current official announcement. A reservation is not a delivery date or a binding final specification.

Rivian: R2 first, R3 later

The R2 is one of the most actionable future vehicles. Rivian’s published trim sequence calls for a Performance version in spring 2026 at $57,990, Premium in late 2026 at $53,990, Standard in the first half of 2027 at $48,490, and an additional Standard variant in late 2027 expected to start around $45,000. Rivian estimates up to 656 horsepower and up to 345 miles of range depending on configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The R3 and performance R3X are confirmed on the same midsize platform, but the strongest current official sources place them after R2 without a definitive public customer-delivery date. Treat them as confirmed vehicles with timing after R2, not guaranteed 2027 models.

Scout Motors: Traveler and Terra

Scout’s production-intent Traveler SUV and Terra pickup are targeted for initial production in 2027 at a South Carolina facility. Entry pricing is expected below $60,000. Scout projects up to 350 miles of pure-electric range, more than 500 miles for range-extended versions, more than 7,000 pounds of Traveler towing, and more than 10,000 pounds of Terra towing.

These numbers remain projections and the schedule is subject to change. A production start in 2027 may initially involve validation vehicles, limited trims, or a gradual ramp rather than broad customer deliveries. The range-extended versions are especially relevant to buyers who want electric driving but regularly travel beyond dependable fast-charging routes.

Lucid: Cosmos, Gravity, and the midsize expansion

Lucid’s March 2026 Investor Day named the Lucid Cosmos as a 2027 vehicle on a new midsize platform. Lucid also named Earth and a third midsize model, but their schedules are less certain. Cosmos matters because Lucid is attempting to expand beyond the Air sedan and Gravity SUV into a potentially higher-volume segment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Gravity itself is no longer merely a future vehicle. Lucid’s announced 2027 lineup adds standard features and may be a reason to wait for a more mature configuration rather than buying an early version.

Toyota and Lexus

The 2027 Toyota Highlander BEV is the clearest confirmed Toyota launch for shoppers planning ahead: a three-row EV with up to seven seats, a 95.8-kWh battery on specified AWD versions, up to 320 miles of Toyota-estimated range, vehicle-to-load capability, and Kentucky assembly.

Rank #3
Revell 14530 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge 1:24 Scale 63-Piece Skill Level 4 Model Car Building Kit
  • Revell Model Kit #14530, Skill Level 4, Contains 63-Parts, Recommended for ages 12 and up
  • Optional rear spoiler and factory-stock Judge decal graphics in four color schemes.
  • Highly detailed 370-horsepower Ram Air IV 400-cubic-inch V-8 engine. Ram Air hood with optional hood-mounted tachometer.
  • Detailed Rallye II wheels. Choice of stock and Hurst T-handle floor shifters.
  • Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires. Requires paint and glue. (not included)

Toyota’s official 2027 model-year information also lists the Corolla Hatchback, Crown, Prius, Prius Plug-in Hybrid, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, GR86, and Tundra. Most are updates or carryovers rather than all-new vehicles, so buyers should not assume every 2027 Toyota represents a major redesign.

The redesigned Lexus ES arrives with hybrid and battery-electric versions in 2026. Lexus has also announced the TZ, an all-new three-row BEV in its global newsroom. U.S. pricing and availability for the TZ require confirmation; a global Lexus announcement is not proof that it will be sold in America.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Honda and Acura: wait for hybrids, not the canceled 0 Series

Honda’s North American EV strategy changed substantially in March 2026. Honda canceled development and North American market launch of three planned EV models. Older stories that still promise the 0 Series Saloon and SUV in North America beginning in 2026 are outdated and should not be used as current buying guidance.

The replacement strategy is a major next-generation hybrid rollout beginning in 2027. Honda says the new vehicles will use a new hybrid system and platform, with 15 next-generation hybrid models globally by the end of fiscal 2029/30. It plans larger D-segment-and-above hybrids for 2029, and Acura will expand its own next-generation hybrid lineup. The prototypes shown so far do not establish final production names, pricing, or exact U.S. dates.

Honda also plans an N-BOX EV for Japan in 2028. That is a regional product and should not be presented as a U.S. recommendation. The practical verdict for North American Honda shoppers is to watch the hybrid program and disregard stale North American 0 Series launch dates.

Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis

Hyundai’s new 2026 vehicles are already more useful to buyers than speculative 2027 renderings. The Ioniq 6 N arrives later in 2026, while the Ioniq 9 is an all-new three-row EV with a 2027 Calligraphy Black Ink variant assembled in Georgia. Hyundai has major U.S. investment and production expansion underway, but the available first-party material does not provide a complete model-by-model U.S. roadmap through 2029.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Kia has stronger model-specific announcements. The second-generation 2027 Telluride has gasoline and planned hybrid powertrains, more space, Georgia assembly, and an X-Pro version with 9.1 inches of ground clearance. The second-generation 2027 Seltos adds gasoline and hybrid choices; Kia says it offers three powertrain choices and its first electric-AWD system on a hybrid SUV, while detailed hybrid launch information follows later.

Kia’s U.S. media catalog lists the EV3 and EV4 among its expanding EV range. They are worth watching, but current U.S. pricing, trims, and exact customer timing should be checked against Kia America’s latest announcement before treating either as a guaranteed local launch. The dossier does not provide a comparably firm 2026–2029 Genesis model schedule, so old Genesis EV reports should not be promoted to confirmed status.

Nissan and Infiniti

The third-generation Nissan Leaf is in production in the United Kingdom and Japan and is intended as a more practical global EV. Nissan’s broader product plan calls for nine new models through fiscal 2027, but the vehicles are not all intended for the United States.

Nissan identifies the Leaf as a heartbeat model, Rogue/X-Trail e-POWER as core hybrid products, Juke EV as Europe-focused, and Xterra and Skyline as future strategic nameplates in the broader portfolio. Partnership models such as Frontier Pro are also regional. These names should not automatically be described as U.S. launches.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nissan continues to target an EV using internally developed all-solid-state batteries by fiscal 2028. That is a technology target, not a confirmed model announcement. A shopper should not postpone a purchase on the assumption that a specific solid-state Nissan will be in a showroom in 2028.

The dossier does not establish a fully specified future Infiniti model with firm U.S. timing. Treat Infiniti’s broader electrification announcements as a watchlist until the company publishes a named production vehicle and market schedule.

Subaru

Subaru’s strongest current future-car evidence is its 2026 EV expansion. The Trailseeker is an all-electric crossover with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, up to 375 horsepower, more than 280 miles of available range, and 8.5 inches of ground clearance. The smaller Uncharted joins it as another 2026 electric crossover.

Both are already moving into the 2026 model-year market. Subaru has not, in the supplied official material, confirmed a specific 2027 EV, hybrid, or electric Outback. Be skeptical of articles that attach a firm date to one.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mazda

The all-new 2026 CX-5 launches first with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, standard all-wheel drive, more room, and Google built-in. The more important waiting decision is the confirmed 2027 CX-5 Hybrid, which will combine Mazda’s hybrid system with Skyactiv-Z technology.

Revell 14561 1970 Dodge Charger R/T 1:25 Scale 117-Piece Skill Level 5 Model Building Kit
  • Revell Model Kit #14561, Skill Level 5, Contains 117-Parts, Recommended for ages 13 and up
  • Detailed HEMI V-8 engine.
  • Separate reverse side scoops.
  • Tampo printed Red Line Tires.
  • Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires. Paint and glue required(not included).

If you need a crossover immediately and value Mazda’s current driving character, the 2026 gasoline CX-5 is the available choice. If fuel economy is the reason you are shopping, waiting for the 2027 hybrid is more logical than buying the first year of the redesigned gasoline model and trading soon afterward.

BMW

The 2027 BMW iX3 is the first production Neue Klasse vehicle. U.S. pricing starts at $61,500 plus $1,350 destination, with a scheduled U.S. launch on September 25, 2026. BMW estimates up to 434 miles of range, and the vehicle uses an 800-volt architecture with up to 400-kW DC charging. Range and charging depend on configuration and conditions.

BMW expects the electric i3 sports sedan to premiere in late 2026 and reach the United States in 2027. It will establish the next Neue Klasse sedan direction. BMW says Neue Klasse technology will spread to approximately 40 new models and updates by 2027; that number includes refreshed vehicles and powertrain variations, not 40 entirely new nameplates. A future electric M3 is part of the program’s direction, but its exact launch date is not confirmed.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a large product wave rather than an EV-only conversion. The announced portfolio includes the new CLA with electric and hybrid powertrains, an electric GLC, an electric C-Class, a fully electric E-Class, AMG.EA performance EVs, and a major S-Class update in 2026. Mercedes says more than 40 new or refreshed models are planned through 2027.

The important takeaway is powertrain flexibility: EVs, plug-in hybrids, and internal-combustion vehicles will coexist. Exact U.S. launch timing and pricing for the GLC, C-Class, E-Class, and AMG models should be attributed to Mercedes-Benz USA only when that market confirms them.

Porsche

The electric Cayenne is the headline Porsche launch. The Turbo Electric is rated at up to 1,139 horsepower and a claimed 2.4-second 0–60 mph time, while the model can charge at up to 400 kW and tow up to 7,716 pounds when properly equipped. Porsche is retaining gasoline and plug-in-hybrid Cayenne models, giving buyers an unusually clear choice between powertrains under the same nameplate.

The Cayenne S Electric produces 536 horsepower, or up to 657 horsepower with Launch Control. Its U.S. MSRP starts at $126,300 before the delivery, processing, and handling fee, with deliveries expected at the end of summer 2026. Performance and range figures should be treated as manufacturer claims until independent testing is available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Polestar and Volvo

Polestar’s official three-year offensive includes the Polestar 5 from summer 2026, a new Polestar 4 variant in late 2026, a next-generation Polestar 2 in early 2027, and the Polestar 7 compact SUV in 2028. The Polestar 6 roadster remains planned, but its timing is not equally firm.

The next-generation Polestar 2 and Polestar 7 are the most relevant to mainstream shoppers. The Polestar 5 and 6 are more specialized and expensive, so they should not be treated as alternatives for an ordinary compact-SUV buyer. The supplied research does not establish a separate named Volvo model with firm 2026–2029 U.S. timing; avoid importing speculative Volvo renderings into the confirmed list.

Jaguar and Land Rover

JLR’s 2026 program has two major luxury EV tracks. Range Rover Electric is scheduled to launch in 2026, with production-line preparation and prototype testing already reported. Range Rover Sport Electric is also confirmed, with later-2026 timing described in JLR’s strategic update.

Jaguar is returning as an electric-only brand. Its first new production vehicle is a four-door GT, referred to in more recent JLR material as Jaguar Type 01. Prototype testing is underway and a 2026 reveal is planned, but a reveal is not the same as broad customer delivery.

JLR has also confirmed additional Range Rover and Defender models on its Electrified Modular Architecture. The company is retaining propulsion flexibility, including future hybrids, but has not published complete specifications for those vehicles. They belong in the 2028–2029 watchlist rather than a detailed order guide.

Ferrari

Ferrari says deliveries of its first electric Ferrari are scheduled to begin in late 2026. The company also plans an average of four new model launches per year from 2026 through 2030 and projects that its 2030 sports-car mix will be approximately 40 percent ICE, 40 percent hybrid, and 20 percent electric.

This is a confirmed halo-car program, not a mainstream EV recommendation. Ferrari’s internal code names and projected technical details should not be presented as final retail specifications until the production reveal.

This is where many future-car lists become misleading. A 2029 heading filled with unnamed vehicles creates an illusion of certainty. The confirmed information currently supports a handful of named vehicles and several manufacturer programs—not a complete, fixed 2029 showroom calendar.

Every manufacturer: what is actually confirmed?

The manufacturer sections above cover the strongest programs in the supplied research. The short version for brands without a detailed model entry is equally important:

  • Ford: one affordable electric midsize pickup is confirmed for 2027; other rumored EVs are not.
  • General Motors: Bolt, Sierra, Corvette engine update, and an unnamed Buick compact SUV discussion are supported; do not invent the Buick’s identity.
  • Stellantis brands: the company has a large mixed-powertrain plan, but the complete model roadmap is not yet public. Cherokee, Compass, Pacifica refresh, Charger SIXPACK, and Ram Rumble Bee are the clearest named programs in the supplied material.
  • Tesla: the Roadster remains official but undated. Unnamed future Teslas are not confirmed.
  • Rivian and Scout: R2, R3/R3X, Traveler, and Terra are real programs, with delivery timing varying considerably.
  • Toyota and Lexus: Highlander BEV, Lexus ES, and global TZ are the strongest named electrified vehicles; market availability must be separated.
  • Honda and Acura: next-generation hybrids from 2027 onward are the current North American direction; the earlier Honda 0 Series plan was superseded.
  • Hyundai and Kia: Ioniq 6 N, Ioniq 9, Telluride, Seltos HEV, EV3, and EV4 are relevant, but not all have the same U.S. timing certainty.
  • Nissan and Infiniti: the new Leaf and a nine-model global plan are official; individual U.S. nameplates and the solid-state EV remain less certain.
  • Subaru: Trailseeker and Uncharted are the confirmed 2026 EV expansion; later models are not sufficiently specified.
  • Mazda: the 2026 CX-5 and confirmed 2027 CX-5 Hybrid are the meaningful waits.
  • BMW: iX3 in 2026 and i3 in 2027 lead the Neue Klasse rollout.
  • Mercedes-Benz: a large mixed-powertrain product wave is confirmed, but U.S. dates vary by model.
  • Porsche: Cayenne Electric and S Electric are the near-term headline products.
  • Polestar: Polestar 5, 4 variant, next-generation 2, and 7 form a named three-year offensive.
  • Jaguar Land Rover: Range Rover Electric, Range Rover Sport Electric, Jaguar Type 01, and later EMA vehicles are the important programs.
  • Ferrari: first EV in late 2026 plus a regular launch cadence through 2030.
  • Volkswagen Group and other luxury brands: the supplied first-party research does not establish enough specific, current U.S. model-and-date information to list individual vehicles confidently. That is preferable to turning concepts, spy photos, or old plans into promises.

Buy now or wait? A practical decision framework

Wait when the future vehicle solves your exact problem

  • The current model is at the end of its generation and the replacement adds the powertrain you want.
  • You specifically need a three-row EV and can wait for the Highlander BEV.
  • You want a hybrid CX-5, Telluride, or future Honda rather than buying a gasoline model now.
  • You need an affordable EV and the Bolt or Ford pickup fits your use case.
  • You want a major improvement in charging, range, towing, third-row space, or fuel economy.
  • You can accept first-year-production risk and potentially limited trim availability.

Buy the current model when certainty matters more

  • You need a dependable vehicle within the next 12 months.
  • The future vehicle is only a concept, unnamed program, anonymous report, or artist rendering.
  • The launch date has repeatedly slipped or is described only as a target.
  • The new model will probably launch first in an expensive, supply-constrained trim.
  • You need an established service network, known reliability, or immediate parts availability.
  • The current vehicle is discounted heavily and already meets your needs.
  • The future model is confirmed only for another country.

Use a reservation carefully

A Scout, Rivian, or Tesla reservation does not equal an order, delivery appointment, locked price, or final specification. Deposit terms, refundability, production priority, trim sequencing, and geographic allocation can change. Before reserving, read the current terms and decide whether you would still want the vehicle if the price rises or the least expensive trim arrives later.

What to check before waiting for an EV

  • Range standard: EPA and WLTP figures are not interchangeable. Compare vehicles using the same test standard whenever possible.
  • Charging curve: peak kilowatts alone do not tell you how quickly the vehicle charges from 10 to 80 percent.
  • Connector: native NACS is different from using an adapter. Confirm the vehicle’s actual access to the charging network you use.
  • Battery preconditioning: this can materially affect cold-weather fast charging.
  • Home charging: an EV is easier to live with when you can charge where you park.
  • Towing: towing can reduce range substantially. Check the final rating and payload, not just the battery size.
  • Energy export: distinguish vehicle-to-home from vehicle-to-load; they require different equipment and installation.
  • Service and warranty: check local service-center coverage, battery warranty, software policies, and parts availability.
  • Launch trim: the advertised starting price may apply to a version that arrives months after the expensive launch editions.

What to check before waiting for a hybrid

Hybrid is not one technology. A conventional hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and range-extended EV can have very different ownership costs and driving behavior. Confirm whether all-wheel drive is mechanical or electric, whether towing capacity changes, whether the hybrid is available at launch or later, and whether the new system is being introduced on an entirely new platform.

Also compare the expected fuel-economy gain against the likely price premium. A new hybrid may be worth waiting for if you drive many miles or keep the vehicle for a long time, but a discounted current gasoline model may be financially better for a low-mileage owner.

Concept, prototype, production, or delivery? Read the language correctly

Concept
A design or technology study. It may preview styling without confirming a production vehicle, name, price, battery, or market.
Production-intent concept
Closer to the planned vehicle, but still subject to engineering, regulatory, and business changes. Scout’s revealed vehicles are production-intent programs with projected specifications.
Preproduction vehicle
A vehicle used for testing, validation, media demonstrations, or factory preparation. It does not necessarily mean customer deliveries are imminent.
Start of production
The factory has begun building vehicles, but output may initially be limited and customer deliveries may follow later.
Model-year announcement
A manufacturer has assigned a model year. It does not specify the exact calendar date the vehicle will reach every dealer.
Customer deliveries
The strongest practical milestone for a buyer, although availability can still vary by trim, country, and dealer allocation.
Global launch
The vehicle may be revealed or sold in one region without being approved, priced, or scheduled for the United States.

Canceled, delayed, and changed plans

Honda 0 Series in North America: older plans for the Saloon and SUV beginning in 2026 were overtaken by Honda’s March 2026 announcement canceling development and North American launch of three planned EVs. The current North American story is next-generation hybrids from 2027 onward, not the old 0 Series schedule. Read Honda’s strategy reset.

Ram 1500 REV: the previously planned Ram 1500 BEV was canceled during Stellantis’ North American reset. It should not appear in a list of confirmed future pickups without that correction.

Tesla Roadster: still listed by Tesla with impressive claimed specifications, but without a firm customer-delivery date. It is a watchlist vehicle, not a reliable 2027 purchase plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Old EV targets: Nissan’s older numerical EV ambitions and any pre-reset Honda or Stellantis timing should be checked against newer corporate announcements. A newer strategy statement takes precedence over an old concept reveal.

Common mistakes in future-car lists

  1. Mixing renderings with approved vehicles: an illustration can be an informed prediction rather than a manufacturer commitment.
  2. Preserving stale launch dates: a newer cancellation or strategy reset can invalidate a previously accurate article.
  3. Calling a trim an all-new car: a new Corvette engine, Ioniq 9 appearance package, or Toyota model-year update is not necessarily a new generation.
  4. Ignoring hybrids: Honda, Mazda, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, JLR, Nissan, Toyota, and Stellantis are all developing mixed-powertrain portfolios.
  5. Confusing production with delivery: a 2027 production target can precede broad availability by months.
  6. Assuming global availability: a Japan-, Europe-, China-, or other market vehicle is not automatically coming to the United States.
  7. Promising incentives: tax credits and other incentives depend on geography, income, battery sourcing, purchase date, and changing law. Verify them at the time of purchase.
  8. Using autonomy language loosely: use terms such as driver assistance, hands-free assistance, Level 2, or supervised automation rather than calling a system self-driving without appropriate evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a 2027 model arrive in calendar year 2027?

Not necessarily. Automakers commonly launch the next model year before January. The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt begins customer shipments in early 2026, and the 2027 BMW iX3 is scheduled for a U.S. launch on September 25, 2026.

Which future car is the safest reason to wait?

For a mainstream family EV, the 2027 Toyota Highlander BEV has one of the clearest announcements and a three-row layout with up to 320 miles of Toyota-estimated range. For an affordable EV, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is more actionable because customer shipments have already begun. For a hybrid crossover, the 2027 Mazda CX-5 Hybrid is a particularly clear reason to delay buying a 2026 gasoline CX-5.

Is the Tesla Roadster coming in 2027?

Tesla still lists the Roadster officially and publishes claimed performance targets, but its current page does not give a firm customer-delivery date. It should be treated as officially maintained but undated, not as a guaranteed 2027 vehicle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I reserve a Scout, Rivian, or Tesla?

Only if you understand that a reservation is not a binding order, locked price, guaranteed trim, or delivery appointment. Production sequencing, geography, pricing, and deposit terms can change.

Are Honda’s 0 Series EVs still coming to North America?

The older North American plan was superseded. Honda announced in March 2026 that it canceled development and North American market launch of three planned EV models. Its current strategy emphasizes next-generation hybrids beginning in 2027, with larger hybrids planned for 2029.

Which vehicles in this list are not confirmed for the United States?

The Honda N-BOX EV is planned for Japan, Nissan’s Juke EV is Europe-focused, and the Lexus TZ has global confirmation but requires U.S. availability and pricing confirmation. Nissan’s broader future nameplates and Kia’s EV3 and EV4 also require model-specific U.S. timing checks.

The Bottom Line

Wait for a confirmed vehicle that fixes a problem with what you can buy today—not for a rumor. The strongest near-term waits are the Chevrolet Bolt for affordable EV ownership, the Toyota Highlander BEV for three-row electric family transport, the Ford electric midsize pickup for lower-cost truck buyers, the BMW iX3 for long-range premium EV technology, the Mazda CX-5 Hybrid and Kia Telluride Hybrid for mainstream hybrid shoppers, and the Rivian R2 for a smaller adventure EV.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Further-out programs such as Honda’s next-generation hybrids, Polestar 7, Rivian R3, Lucid Earth, Nissan’s solid-state EV target, and later JLR models are worth monitoring but should not force a purchase delay without a confirmed date, price, market, and specification. Buy now when you need proven transportation, the current model is discounted, or the future vehicle is still only a concept or corporate strategy.
