What the Freedom Camper “XL” is
“XL” is New Atlas’s shorthand for the 72 × 89-inch size, not a separate official model name. Freedom Campers lists it as its largest trailer camper. The hard-sided pod is offered with different mounting arrangements for trailer or truck use; the 72-inch-wide configuration is the one intended for a wide trailer or flatbed, rather than a standard pickup bed. Does it fit a pickup bed or utility trailer?
At 72 inches wide externally, the largest configuration is too wide for ordinary pickup beds. New Atlas describes a trailer floor at least six feet wide or a flatbed as the intended platform. Freedom Campers specifies suitability for trailers wider than 72.5 inches, so check the actual usable deck width and the platform’s load rating before buying; a nominal six-foot trailer may not provide enough usable width.

The manufacturer lists exterior dimensions of 89 × 72 × 54 inches and interior dimensions of 85 × 68 × 48 inches for this configuration. How much more room does the largest size provide?
Compared with the 58 × 89-inch trailer model, the 72 × 89 is 14 inches wider outside and has 14 inches more listed interior width. Both have an 89-inch exterior length. The larger configuration’s listed trailer-model weight is 270 pounds, versus 180 pounds for the 58 × 89 model. The added width changes the platform requirement as well as the sleeping space.

Can two people sleep inside?
Freedom Campers lists sleeping capacity for two, and New Atlas reports that two individual cots can fit side by side in the largest model. Cots are separate, and the cited sources do not identify a specific compatible cot or its dimensions. The camper body can be used with either arrangement, but the mounting hardware differs. Freedom Campers puts it plainly in its FAQ: “The camper body fits either one. Prices vary by size and can change. On October 4, 2026, Freedom Campers’ official trailer listing displayed a starting sale price of $3,439.99 for the default small configuration; selecting 72 × 89 showed $4,539.99, with $4,744.99 shown as its regular price. Separately, New Atlas reported a $4,399 sale starting price for the 72 × 89 size on April 13, 2026. These are dated prices from different sources, not a single guaranteed current quote. The manufacturer says the camper is sold without a trailer or accessories. It lists shipping in the lower 48, with custom freight quotes required in a number of states. The delivered total therefore depends on the destination and any compatible platform, additional mounting hardware, or separately purchased sleep or ventilation equipment. What does the manufacturer claim about cold-weather use?
Freedom Campers says its insulation keeps interior temperatures comfortable even when it is 20°F outside, and presents the camper as suitable for all-season use. That is a manufacturer claim: the cited product pages do not establish independent temperature testing, a specific indoor temperature, or a built-in heating system.
