The company has not named the trucks or disclosed their engines, prices, specifications, order dates, or customer availability. The plan replaces the next-generation electric truck previously planned for the Tennessee facility.
What Ford has announced
Ford said it will rename the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center at its BlueOval City campus the Tennessee Truck Plant and use it to build a family of new, affordable gas-powered trucks. The announcement describes multiple models, but does not identify a nameplate or say whether they will be pickups, other truck configurations, or both. Ford has not published a price, production volume, engine details, fuel-economy estimates, or other specifications. Ford’s December 15, 2025 release does not give an order date or a date when customers can expect deliveries.
When production is planned to start
Ford’s stated target is to start production in 2029. That is a forward-looking company plan, not confirmation that production has begun or a guarantee that vehicles will reach customers in that year. Ford says its forward-looking statements are based on management expectations, forecasts, and assumptions, and notes risks including delays and production difficulties. The release’s cautionary statement applies to the timing.
How this changes the Tennessee plant’s plan
In August 2024, Ford described a next-generation electric truck for the Tennessee facility, with its launch retimed to the second half of 2027. That was the facility’s earlier plan; Ford’s December 2025 announcement replaces it with the new gas-powered truck models and a planned 2029 production start. Ford’s August 2024 filing records the previous timing.

This is a change in the announced product direction for one facility. Ford’s statement does not say that the company is abandoning all electric trucks or all electric-vehicle plans. The same December announcement separately describes a new gas-and-hybrid commercial van for Ohio Assembly Plant, also planned to begin production in 2029; that van is not the Tennessee truck.
Why Ford says it is shifting investment
Farley characterized the change as a response to customer demand and a move to direct capital toward opportunities Ford expects to earn higher returns. He said: “This is a customer-driven shift to create a stronger, more resilient and more profitable Ford.” He also cited Ford Pro, trucks and vans, hybrids, and battery energy storage as areas receiving investment.

Ford’s release gives broader figures for its strategic actions, not costs or forecasts specific to the Tennessee truck program. The company estimated about $19.5 billion in special items and about $5.5 billion in cash effects. It also said it expects hybrids, extended-range electric vehicles, and electric vehicles together to account for about 50% of global volume by 2030, compared with 17% in 2025. These are Ford’s estimates and guidance, not independently verified outcomes or details of the truck lineup.
