For a U.S. buyer shopping new in 2026, the Ford Mustang is the clear choice for a factory-new car: Ford lists a 2026 lineup, while Chevrolet ended Camaro production after the 2024 model year. That does not make the Mustang the better car for everyone. A used Camaro can still be the better fit if a specific year, trim, body style, condition and price meet your needs. The fair answer depends on which versions you are comparing—not on the highest horsepower number from each nameplate.
What is actually available new in 2026?
Ford lists 2026 Mustang models in the U.S., from EcoBoost through the high-performance Dark Horse SC. Chevrolet’s sixth-generation Camaro final-edition announcement said production would end with model year 2024, and the company now includes Camaro among its discontinued vehicles. A new-car shopper is therefore generally choosing between a new Mustang and a used Camaro, rather than two current new-car lineups. That availability advantage is practical, not proof that the Mustang is superior in performance, comfort or ownership costs. With a Camaro, the exact used car matters: compare its model year, trim, engine, transmission, body style, service history, condition and asking price.
How do the Mustang and Camaro lineups compare?

Ford lists rear-wheel drive and seating for four across relevant Mustang models, along with features such as selectable drive modes and a 12.4-inch instrument cluster paired with a 13.2-inch touchscreen on relevant trims. The final 2024 Camaro range offered coupe and convertible body styles and LT/RS, LT1, SS and ZL1 trims; 1LE remained an option on SS and ZL1. Chevrolet’s 2024 LT fact sheet rates its 3.6L V6 at 335 hp. The ZL1’s supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 is rated at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft. Ford’s online Build & Price page displayed the following 2026 starting prices when accessed October 4, 2026. They are displayed starting prices, not guaranteed transaction prices; options, destination, region, dealer pricing, incentives and timing can change what a buyer pays.

Which trims make the fairest comparison?
Start with the job you want the car to do, then compare versions in a similar performance class. A base model and a top-performance trim are not meaningful stand-ins for their entire lineups.

Ford lists the GT with a six-speed manual or available 10-speed automatic, and the Dark Horse with a TREMEC six-speed manual or available 10-speed automatic; its cited material lists a 10-speed automatic for EcoBoost. Which one is better for daily driving?
There is no established universal daily-driving winner in the available specifications. The practical choice comes down to how the particular cars work for you and, for a Camaro, whether the used example is sound.
- Check the cabin in person. Sit in both front seats, test rear-seat access if you need it, and assess visibility, controls and infotainment on the exact model year and trim.
- Drive the routes you use. Compare ride, road noise, low-speed manners and visibility on familiar roads, not just during a short test loop.
- Price the whole ownership picture. Get insurance quotes for the exact vehicle and check local costs for tires, fuel and service. Comparative insurance, reliability and ownership-cost results are not established here.

Which one is better for track use?
The Mustang and Camaro both have track-oriented versions, but the listed specifications do not establish which is faster around a circuit, brakes better or handles better. Horsepower alone cannot answer those questions. A fair track comparison needs the specific model year, trim and package, plus matched independent testing or a careful evaluation under comparable conditions.
