In the same month, hybrid sales rose 29.6%, truck sales rose 18.9%, and total company sales increased 16.2%. Those figures show sharply different sales trends—not that truck technology caused Ford’s overall gains.
Ford’s April 2025 U.S. sales at a glance
Ford Motor Company’s release, published May 1, 2025, compares April 2025 with April 2024. The figures below are U.S. sales for that month.

What the sales mix says—and what it does not
The contrast is clear: Ford sold fewer EVs than a year earlier while selling more hybrids, trucks, and vehicles overall. The 28,190 electrified total was up 8.4%, because the hybrid increase more than offset the decline in the electric category in that combined measure.

These are concurrent sales results, not evidence that one category caused another to rise or that a particular technology drove truck demand. Ford’s sales table reports volumes and year-over-year changes; it does not establish why buyers chose a vehicle or powertrain. The headline phrase “truck tech drive” therefore goes beyond what the figures demonstrate.
Why did Ford EV sales fall in April 2025?
Reuters, in a report republished by Investing.com on May 1, 2025, reported that a Ford spokesperson attributed weak EV sales to model-year changeovers for the two vehicles and low dealer-lot supply. That is the explanation reported at the time, not a quantified causal finding in Ford’s sales table. Reuters also reported that strong truck demand and Ford’s employee-pricing program aided overall sales; the report does not quantify how much either factor contributed.

April is not the same as year-to-date
Ford’s January-through-April results show a less pronounced EV decline than April alone. Through April 2025, the company reported 27,409 electric vehicles, down 2.9% year over year; 74,404 hybrids, up 31.9%; and 709,966 total vehicles, up 3.2%. These are four-month cumulative comparisons, not April-only results.
For a fair comparison, keep the geography, time period, category, and year-over-year basis aligned. In particular, April’s 39.4% EV decline should not be presented as Ford’s year-to-date change.
