Assuming you’re shopping in India, neither the Ford EcoSport nor Hyundai Creta is automatically the better used buy. Choose an EcoSport if a well-documented example suits your need for a smaller SUV and you have checked local parts and service access. Choose a Creta if passenger and luggage space are priorities and the car’s condition, equipment and price stack up. The available direct comparison is from 2018 and covers selected trims—not every year, engine or gearbox—so compare like with like before deciding.
Match the cars before comparing them
EcoSport and Creta differ in size and packaging, so a model-name comparison alone can obscure what matters in a used purchase. Compare examples with the same model year where possible, then match engine, transmission and trim. Confirm the actual equipment on each car: features change by version, and Hyundai’s current new-car feature information itself distinguishes engine and trim combinations.

CarDekho’s June 25, 2018 comparison is useful for understanding differences between the trims it covered, but it is not a current model-year test or a verdict for every used example. A neglected car or a poorly priced one can be the wrong choice regardless of which model looked stronger on paper.
Space and everyday fit
In the 2018 comparison, CarDekho described the Creta as roomier inside and listed a 402-litre boot for the generation and configuration discussed. Treat that figure as specific to that article’s context, not as a specification for every Creta. Check the year-specific boot capacity and, more importantly, try your passengers’ seats and usual luggage in the actual car.
#1 Best Overall
The same comparison presented the EcoSport’s smaller dimensions as an advantage for maneuvering in city traffic. That may suit tight parking or narrower streets, while the Creta’s extra cabin and luggage room may better serve frequent rear-seat passengers or family trips. Your parking situation and typical passenger and cargo load should decide which trade-off matters more.
Equipment and safety: check the exact trim
CarDekho’s 2018 comparison reported six airbags on the EcoSport Titanium+ and S variants it discussed, versus dual front airbags on the compared Creta E, E Plus and S variants. It also covered features such as electronic stability control (ESC), hill-launch assist, brake assist and ISOFIX. These are trim-specific equipment observations, not proof of crash-test performance or a universal safety ranking.

Before treating a feature as a reason to buy, check the exact variant’s equipment list and confirm that the feature is present and functioning in the vehicle. Look for the correct warning-light behavior at start-up, and have a qualified inspector assess safety-critical systems. A badge or a seller’s description is not a substitute for checking the car itself.

CarDekho described Hyundai’s service network as broader than Ford’s in 2018. That is historical context, not a guarantee of today’s coverage in your city. Before buying an EcoSport, contact nearby workshops and parts suppliers to confirm what they can support for the specific year and engine. Check service access for the Creta locally as well.

- Used Book in Good Condition
No defensible, like-for-like current used-price, repair-cost or fuel-economy comparison is established for matched EcoSport and Creta versions. Compare actual local asking prices, service invoices, insurance quotes and inspection findings instead of assuming one model is cheaper to buy or run.
Ford India’s live product page displays manufacturer-claimed ARAI mileage figures of 18.88 km/l for petrol and 22.27 km/l for diesel, as well as 200 mm ground clearance. Because the page does not clearly pin those figures to the model year and variant of a used car, and the mileage is a manufacturer claim, they are not a fair used-car comparison. ZigWheels’ live comparison page labels the EcoSport discontinued, but its current Creta price/specification context is not a matched used-car valuation. Do not use either page’s current new-car context to set a used-car price.

Inspect the individual car before choosing
Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic, and check these items before committing:
- Documents: Match the registration, chassis and engine details to the paperwork. Check ownership and available service records.
- Service history: Ask for invoices, not just a verbal account. Look for gaps and repairs that need clarification.
- Body and repair signs: Check for inconsistent paint, panel gaps, corrosion or evidence of accident repair; ask the inspector to assess any concerns.
- Tyres and warning lights: Note tyre condition and wear, and make sure dashboard warning lights behave as expected when the car starts.
- Test drive: Try the car in varied traffic and road conditions. Pay attention to engine response, braking, unusual noises and transmission behavior appropriate to the specific gearbox.
- Local support: For an EcoSport in particular, verify that parts and suitable service are accessible in your area before you buy.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the EcoSport if…
- A sound, documented example fits your needs better than the Creta’s larger cabin.
- You prefer its smaller dimensions for your parking and city-driving conditions.
- You have confirmed parts and service access near you, and the specific trim has the equipment you want.
Choose the Creta if…
- Passenger room and luggage capacity matter more to you than a smaller footprint.
- The exact car has the right trim and equipment for your needs.
- Its service access, verified history, inspection results and asking price make it the stronger individual purchase.
In either case, decide between actual cars—not model reputations. A well-maintained example at a fair local price is a better buy than a nominal model-level winner in poor condition.
