Five races remain in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series Chase, and Kyle Larson leads Denny Hamlin by 40 points after the October 4 race at Las Vegas. Christopher Bell, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney and Las Vegas winner Chase Briscoe are also within 84 points of the lead. The standings below are a snapshot after Las Vegas and can change at the next event.
Who is leading NASCAR’s Chase after Las Vegas?
Larson holds a 40-point advantage over Hamlin. The next four drivers are within 84 points of the lead, leaving the top of the standings tightly grouped with five races left.

These gaps come from NASCAR.com’s October 5, 2026 Chase report. Briscoe moved up two positions with his Las Vegas victory, which put him sixth and 84 points behind Larson.
What happened at Las Vegas?
Briscoe won the South Point 400, his second Cup victory of the 2026 season. He swept both stages, led 175 of the race’s 267 laps and finished 1.376 seconds ahead of the field, according to NASCAR Wire Service’s race report. His result made him a closer part of the title picture, but Larson remains the driver to catch.

What races are left in the 2026 NASCAR Chase?
NASCAR’s 2026 Cup Series schedule lists these five events after Las Vegas:
- Charlotte Roval — October 11
- Phoenix Raceway — October 18
- Talladega Superspeedway — October 25
- Martinsville Speedway — November 1
- Homestead-Miami Speedway — November 8
Each race is another opportunity to gain or lose ground. The points gaps above are the Las Vegas snapshot, not a prediction of how any driver will fare at these tracks.

How does the 2026 NASCAR Chase work?
The Chase covers the final 10 races of the Cup season. The top 16 drivers in regular-season points qualify; winning a race does not by itself guarantee a place. Before the Chase, points are reseeded: the regular-season champion starts with 2,100 points and the second seed with 2,075.
There are no elimination rounds. Drivers continue to earn points across all 10 Chase races, and the driver with the highest total after the finale is champion. Under NASCAR’s 2026 points system, a race win is worth 55 points, while points for other finishing positions and stages retain their prior values. That makes a victory a substantial result, but the title is decided by the full Chase points total—not by a one-race, winner-take-all finale.

NASCAR President Steve O’Donnell said the format was intended to “reward consistency throughout all of the 36 races” while ensuring “winning [doesn’t] go away,” in the organization’s January 12, 2026 format announcement.

What to watch across the five-race run-in
- Whether Larson protects the lead: He begins this stretch 40 points ahead of Hamlin and 84 ahead of Briscoe.
- How the close group responds: Hamlin, Bell, Logano, Blaney and Briscoe are all positioned to challenge the leader through accumulated results.
- The points earned race by race: With no eliminations, a driver’s championship path remains open throughout the Chase; each event contributes to the final total.
- The Homestead finale: The season’s last scheduled Chase race is November 8 at Homestead-Miami, where the driver with the most points after the event will take the title.
