Fersa’s FE Wheel Hub is reported to reduce heavy-truck fuel consumption by 3% to 7.3%, with 3% as the lowest result across the truck designs and use cases described. The figures come from a New Atlas article published March 19, 2025, which relays Fersa’s claims. The headline’s “3-7%” rounds the upper figure down from 7.3%. The published account does not include a full test protocol, raw data, or independent replication, so the range should be read as a reported result, not a guaranteed saving.
What the trial is reported to have covered
According to New Atlas, the testing ran for more than a year and covered more than one million kilometers (about 621,000 miles) of real-world use. The routes were split across urban, rural and long-distance haulage, and the vehicles included long-haul, rigid and truck-trailer configurations. Mawser and TechnoPark MotorLand are named as overseeing the trial. The transport operator Sesé took part.
These are details from a secondary report. They are not independently verified test documentation, and the article does not break results down by fleet, route or vehicle.

How the hub is said to save fuel
Fersa attributes the gain to lower rolling resistance and friction in the wheel hub assembly. The report describes four design elements:

The drivetrain-friction figure is a separate claim. The article does not describe how it was measured, so it should be treated as Fersa’s assertion as relayed by New Atlas.
How the cost estimate is built
New Atlas’s annual figure rests on three inputs: 150,000 km (93,200 miles) of travel per year, 60,000 liters of diesel, and a fuel price of €1.80 per liter (about US$7.40 per gallon). Those inputs imply a diesel bill of €108,000. Applying the 3% floor gives the €3,240 figure.

Applying the 7.3% upper figure to the same bill gives about €7,884. That number is our arithmetic on New Atlas’s assumptions, not a figure the article reports. The general rule is simple: the saving equals the reduction percentage multiplied by your annual diesel spend. A fleet with lower mileage, a cheaper fuel price, or a smaller measured reduction should scale the result down accordingly.
The article’s gallon conversion also needs care. It gives 13,200 gallons for the 60,000-liter volume, but 60,000 liters is about 15,850 US gallons. The calculation uses the liter figure.

Confirm fitment with a qualified truck-parts supplier against your own axle and hub specification before any purchase decision. A broad search for “heavy-duty truck wheel hub bearing assembly” will not confirm that a listing matches the tested product.
The operator’s perspective
New Atlas quotes Carlos Giner, Corporate Director of Transport at Sesé, which participated in the trial: “Every percentage of fuel savings translates into tangible cost reductions at our scale of operations.” The comment reflects the operator’s view of the economics. It does not describe the test method and does not validate the percentages.

How a fleet should evaluate the claim
No competing hub product or independent test is established in the available reporting, so this is not a product ranking. A fleet considering the technology should check five things:
- Verified saving on its own routes and loads: compare fuel use before and after fitting over comparable periods.
- Purchase and installation cost: obtain quotes that include all hubs needed for each vehicle.
- Compatible trucks and axles: confirm fitment for each vehicle type in the fleet.
- Service life and maintenance: ask the supplier for written figures and warranty terms.
- Payback at local fuel prices: calculate with the lowest figure in the range until your own data supports a higher one.
Evidence limits
The reporting available for this topic consists of one secondary article. It attributes the core performance claims to Fersa and does not supply the test protocol, fleet-by-fleet results, control conditions or raw data. No original test report, dataset, price list or fitment catalog is publicly cited alongside it. The Bottom Line
The FE Wheel Hub’s 3% to 7.3% range is a credible hypothesis for a fleet to test, not a saving to budget at full value. Plan with the 3% floor, and only after measuring the effect on your own routes and confirming price, service life and fitment in writing.
