What does the reported crash video show?
CarThrottle described footage filmed by an occupant of a car following the F40. Its account says the clip begins with a flare of engine revs, then shows the Ferrari moving right across the opposite lane, leaving the road, rolling on the verge and knocking down a lamp post. This is the outlet’s description of the footage, not an independent reconstruction of the crash.
CarThrottle reported that the F40 came to rest on its side with substantial bodywork damage. The available reports do not establish whether the car was repairable or what ultimately happened to it.

No cause was established in the reports. Road & Track speculated that low temperatures, damp conditions and a sudden application of boost might have contributed. CarThrottle discussed traction loss under heavy throttle, cold temperatures and the F40’s power delivery as possibilities. Those are journalistic theories, not official findings.

The Drive interpreted the clip as showing lift-off oversteer and discussed possible driver inputs; that is editorial analysis rather than an investigative conclusion. Its discussion also cautions that visible tire tread alone does not establish tire condition. The available images do not prove tire failure, unsuitable tires or old tires caused the crash.
