The Ferrari Enzo ZXX is not a factory Ferrari FXX. It is a one-off Enzo-based project created through the ZR Auto/ZR Exotics and Edo Competition partnership. The most dramatic track footage comes from Spa-Francorchamps in 2015, where the car launches hard, slides, performs burnouts and donuts—and was reportedly shown the black flag after one lap because it was too loud.

Watch the Ferrari Enzo ZXX in action

The Spa-Francorchamps footage is the best match for the familiar “Enzo ZXX on track” video. Contemporary coverage identified the car as Zahir Rana’s ZXX and said Edo Competition owner Edo Karabegovic drove it during the Gran Turismo Spa 2015 event.

It is not a conventional timed-lap video. The footage is primarily a demonstration of the car’s acceleration, traction and enormous exhaust soundtrack. The ZXX fires out of corners, produces sustained tire smoke, rotates into powerslides and finishes sections of the demonstration with burnouts and donuts. According to the contemporary report and the original video description, the car was apparently black-flagged and removed from the circuit after one lap because its noise exceeded the venue’s limit.

That detail is central to the ZXX story. This was an Enzo-derived car built to deliver the drama of a race machine, but its volume could make it difficult to use at a modern circuit with strict noise controls.

What exactly is the Ferrari Enzo ZXX?

The ZXX is a heavily modified, one-off Ferrari Enzo associated with ZR Auto and Edo Competition. It should not be described as a Ferrari production model, and it was not one of the cars in Ferrari’s official XX Programme.

The confusion is understandable. The ZXX uses the Enzo as its foundation and was frequently described in enthusiast coverage as “FXX-inspired” or even as a “street-legal FXX.” Ferrari’s separate factory XX family includes the FXX, which debuted in 2006 as a track-focused car based around the Enzo Ferrari. The ZXX, however, was an independent build developed outside Ferrari’s factory customer program.

In practical terms, the car sits somewhere between a modified road car, a track-day special and a showpiece. It retains the identity of an Enzo, but its bodywork, cabin, engine and exhaust system were substantially altered by Edo Competition.

From Targa Newfoundland crash to ZXX rebuild

The car’s unusual history began before the ZXX name became widely known. The original Enzo-based project was associated with Zahir Rana and ZR Auto, and it was badly damaged during the 2011 Targa Newfoundland event after crashing into the Atlantic Ocean.

Edo Competition subsequently rebuilt the car in Germany. The work went well beyond repairing accident damage. Contemporary reports describe a new rear section, a revised front nose, additional side air vents, LED lighting, a bespoke interior and further mechanical upgrades. The completed project emerged as the ZXX.

That rebuild explains why photographs and videos of the car can look different from a standard Enzo. The basic silhouette remains recognizable, but the ZXX has a more aggressive, competition-inspired appearance and a much louder, more theatrical personality.

How much power does the ZXX make?

There is no single independently verified specification that should be treated as the definitive ZXX output. Published figures vary according to the source and, apparently, the car’s configuration at the time.

Reported figure Context How to interpret it
840 hp and 780 Nm 2013 Nürburgring Nordschleife coverage A reported earlier or different configuration
884 hp and 805 Nm Secondary video reporting A reported dyno-related figure whose test details are not independently documented here
Approximately 950 hp Later GTspirit coverage and the Spa video description The commonly repeated later claim, not a factory specification

The safest summary is that the Edo Competition ZXX has been reported at roughly 840 to 950 horsepower, depending on its setup and the source. The car is powered by a heavily modified 6.3-liter V12, but figures such as 950 hp should be presented as claims rather than as a verified factory or laboratory specification.

The Nürburgring video: ZXX versus MC12 Corsa

The Spa footage is the most entertaining ZXX clip, but an earlier video from the Nürburgring Nordschleife provides better context for the car’s performance. In 2013, the ZXX appeared at a GranTurismoEvents session alongside an Edo Competition Maserati MC12 Corsa.

Contemporary reporting said Sabine Schmitz drove the Ferrari. The footage primarily follows the Maserati’s cockpit, while the ZXX can be seen behind it and occasionally making a pass. That makes the video less of a clean technical demonstration than the Spa clip, but it shows the ZXX operating in a faster, more serious circuit environment.

Noise restrictions again shaped the event. Reports said both cars were limited by the circuit’s sound rules. One enthusiast-media account attributed approximately 142 decibels to the Enzo ZXX and 147 dB to the MC12 Corsa. Those numbers are useful for conveying how extreme the cars sounded, but they should not be treated as verified laboratory measurements without original event documentation.

Other ZXX footage

Rebirth of ZR Auto’s Ferrari Enzo ZXX

The 2014 “Rebirth of ZR Auto’s Ferrari Enzo ZXX” video focuses on the transformation rather than on track driving. It is the most useful footage for understanding the relationship between the damaged Enzo-based car, ZR Auto and Edo Competition, and for seeing the car’s revised exterior and interior.

Autobahn acceleration

An earlier 2012 listing shows the rebuilt ZXX accelerating on a German Autobahn. It provides a brief impression of the car’s straight-line pace, although it offers much less information about handling than the Spa-Francorchamps and Nürburgring videos.

Showroom startup and revving

Separate footage filmed at the ZR Exotics showroom shows the car starting and being revved. The video is valuable mainly because it makes the exhaust character unmistakable. It also accompanied reports that Edo Competition had repaired and improved the Enzo, added further upgrades and raised the claimed output to approximately 950 hp.

Why was the ZXX black-flagged at Spa?

A black flag normally signals that a driver must leave the racing surface and report to pit lane. In the Spa account, the reason given was excessive noise: the ZXX was reportedly too loud for the circuit’s sound limit and was removed after one lap.

The incident should not be confused with a mechanical failure, an accident or a driving penalty. The available contemporary descriptions connect the black flag specifically with the car’s exhaust noise. The precise venue procedure and measured sound level are not established by the available evidence, so “reportedly black-flagged for noise” is more accurate than stating a definitive measured exceedance.

This is also why the ZXX’s road-legal reputation and its track usability are not the same thing. A car can be described as street-legal in contemporary coverage and still be unsuitable for a particular circuit’s noise policy, especially when fitted with an extremely loud exhaust system.

Is the ZXX faster than a Ferrari Enzo or FXX?

The available videos do not provide a controlled comparison that can answer that question. The ZXX has more power than a standard Enzo according to the reported figures, and its bodywork and exhaust are more aggressive. But power alone does not establish lap-time superiority.

The Ferrari FXX is also a fundamentally different reference point. It was a factory-developed, track-only car created within Ferrari’s XX Programme, with dedicated customer events and engineering support. The ZXX is a single modified Enzo whose specification changed over time and whose track use could be constrained by noise limits. Calling it an “FXX-style” or “FXX-inspired” Enzo is reasonable; calling it an actual FXX is not.

What makes the track footage memorable?

  • It is visibly a one-off. The ZXX does not look like a standard Enzo, yet its underlying Ferrari identity remains clear.
  • The performance is theatrical. Acceleration runs, slides, burnouts and donuts make the Spa clip easy to remember even without a timed lap.
  • The sound is part of the plot. The reported black flag turns the exhaust note from a spectacle into a practical limitation.
  • Its history adds context. The car was not simply modified for appearance; it was rebuilt after severe damage and then developed into a much more extreme machine.
  • The numbers require caution. The reported 840–950 hp range and unverified sound figures reflect different sources and configurations rather than a single definitive specification.

Bottom line

The Ferrari Enzo ZXX track videos show one of the most extreme independent Enzo projects ever built: an Edo Competition/ZR Auto creation with a rebuilt chassis, bespoke bodywork, a modified 6.3-liter V12 and a reported output somewhere between 840 and 950 hp depending on the configuration.

The 2015 Spa-Francorchamps clip is the essential viewing because it captures the ZXX accelerating, sliding and smoking its tires before it was reportedly black-flagged for excessive noise. The Nürburgring footage adds a more serious circuit setting and places the Ferrari alongside an Edo-tuned Maserati MC12 Corsa. Together, the videos explain the car’s appeal—and its contradiction: it may have been presented as street-legal and FXX-inspired, but its race-car-level sound could make even a demonstration lap difficult to complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ferrari Enzo ZXX a real Ferrari model?

No. It is a one-off Ferrari Enzo-based project associated with ZR Auto/ZR Exotics and Edo Competition. It was not a Ferrari production model.

Is the Ferrari Enzo ZXX an FXX?

No. The ZXX is independent of Ferrari’s factory XX Programme. It is often described as FXX-inspired because of its track-focused appearance and character, but it is a modified Enzo rather than an official FXX.

How much horsepower does the Enzo ZXX have?

Published claims vary from approximately 840 hp to 950 hp, with an additional secondary report citing 884 hp and 805 Nm. The most accurate general description is roughly 840–950 hp depending on the configuration and source.

Why was the ZXX black-flagged at Spa-Francorchamps?

Contemporary coverage and the video description say it was reportedly black-flagged after one lap because its exhaust noise exceeded the circuit’s limit. The available evidence does not establish a verified measured sound level for that specific incident.

What happened to the original Enzo-based project?

It was badly damaged in a 2011 Targa Newfoundland crash after going into the Atlantic Ocean. Edo Competition rebuilt and further developed it in Germany, after which the project became known as the ZXX.

The Bottom Line

The ZXX is best understood as a one-off, rebuilt and heavily modified Ferrari Enzo—not a factory FXX. Its Spa-Francorchamps video captures the car’s reported 840–950-hp performance in spectacular fashion, while the black-flag report demonstrates the downside of its extreme exhaust: the ZXX could be too loud to remain on some circuits.
