WA Police confirmed a fatal motorcycle-and-truck crash at Kalamunda and Abernethy Roads in Perth Airport (Hazelmere) on 4 May 2026. The available official information does not establish whether the collision caused traffic delays, how long any disruption lasted, or whether flights were affected. The airport’s separate warning about possible congestion near Terminals 1 and 2 concerns works, not this crash.
What happened at Perth Airport
Western Australia Police said the collision occurred at about 3:20 p.m. on Monday, 4 May 2026, at the intersection of Kalamunda and Abernethy Roads in Perth Airport (Hazelmere). The vehicles were a black Kawasaki KLX230A motorcycle and a white Kenworth truck. WA Police’s incident release says the 19-year-old male motorcycle rider suffered critical injuries, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital and died a short time later. The 38-year-old male truck driver was not injured.
Did the crash delay airport traffic or flights?
The police release does not report a road closure, lane restrictions, queue length, clearance time or measured traffic delay. It also gives no information about flight disruption. Those impacts are not established by the available incident information, so the crash should not be described as causing a confirmed or ongoing airport traffic delay.

Separate congestion advisory near Terminals 1 and 2
Perth Airport has separately warned that works may cause congestion around Terminals 1 and 2 during peak periods. Its passenger update recommends allowing at least 30 extra minutes for travel during those periods. That is airport guidance for the works-related congestion advisory, not a measured delay caused by the 4 May crash. Police request for witnesses and footage
WA Police’s Major Crash Investigation Section asked witnesses, including people who saw either vehicle in the area before the collision, to contact investigators. Anyone with relevant dash-cam, CCTV or mobile-phone footage was asked to upload it through the link in the police release.

A separate Tonkin Highway incident
A PerthNow report published on 29 September 2026 described a different crash on Tonkin Highway southbound before Dunreath Drive, with a left lane closed and traffic building. That report does not identify a motorcycle and is not evidence of current conditions or a continuation of the May collision. Read it as a separate, dated incident: PerthNow’s 29 September report.
