The record list separates road cars from prototypes, pre-production cars, and modified entries, so those categories should not be mixed into a stock-production ranking.
Fastest production-car Nürburgring lap time
The headline figure is 6:29.090 for the Mercedes-AMG ONE, in the combustion-engine supercar category. The Nürburgring identifies it as the fastest road car of all time. Maro Engel set the lap in 2024. The circuit’s official 2025 recap repeats the record; the official list was accessed on October 8, 2026, and includes newer category results, so check the official record list for updates before relying on a current ranking.
“Production car” needs qualification here. The headline record is a road-car record, while the Nürburgring’s official classifications also distinguish vehicle types and configurations. A prototype time, a pre-production entry, or a car fitted with a performance kit is not automatically comparable to an unmodified production road car.
How the Nürburgring measures an official record lap
The record attempt is on the Nordschleife, not the separate Grand Prix circuit. The Nordschleife lap is 20.832 km; the Grand Prix track is 5.148 km. The Nürburgring specifies a flying-start full lap using the official start/finish line in track section T13. Timing uses calibrated measurement technology, and attempts are supervised by a notary. Vehicle approval and documentation of standard condition are handled by a neutral testing organization. The Nürburgring says official record laps have been recorded, confirmed, and published since the 2019 season. That framework makes an official category and a documented configuration important parts of any lap-time comparison—not details to omit in favor of a single headline number.
Notable production and road-car record entries
The table distinguishes the road-car headline from other 2025 and 2026 entries reported by the Nürburgring. A blank driver or date means that detail was not stated in the cited recap material; it is not a claim that the information is unavailable elsewhere. “Stock/kit status” describes only what the cited source establishes.

These figures are category results, not a single controlled contest among identical classes of car. The times span different vehicles and, in the Porsche GT2 RS and GT3 entries, different configurations. Read the category and configuration alongside each time.
Why some famous Nürburgring times are not production-car records
The fastest official time overall is not a road-car time. The Nürburgring’s 2025 recap cites 5:19.546 for the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo in the prototype/pre-production category. It also reports 6:22.091 for the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype in that category. Neither belongs in a production-road-car ranking.

Similarly, the Nürburgring’s official categories include separate listings for prototypes and pre-production vehicles, modified vehicles, and several vehicle classes such as compact, medium, luxury, and SUV/van/pick-up. A car name that resembles a production model does not make every lap in its name a stock production result. The 2025 recap’s Mustang GTD time, for example, is a sports-car entry; the current record list separately places a Mustang GTD Competition in the prototype/pre-production category.

- Check the circuit: make sure the figure is for the 20.832 km Nordschleife, not the 5.148 km Grand Prix track.
- Keep the official category: distinguish road cars from prototypes, pre-production vehicles, and modified entries.
- Read the configuration: note performance kits or modifications, as with the Manthey-equipped Porsche laps.
- Check the date: records can change. The official list accessed on October 8, 2026 includes 2026 results, and should be consulted close to publication for the latest entry.
The Nürburgring describes its record drives as the result of vehicle development as well as on-track performance. Managing Director Christian Stephani said: “The official record-breaking drives are much more than just a media-effective format: they are the culmination of a long technical development process and showcase the engineering achievements and performance capabilities of modern vehicles.”
