There is no defensible single “top 10” in the available official Nürburgring record summary: it reports selected records, not a complete ten-place overall ranking. The clearest answer is that the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo holds the fastest official record-drive lap, at 5:19.546 in 2018, while the Mercedes-AMG ONE is the fastest road car cited by the circuit, at 6:29.090 in 2024. Below are the verified records and category examples reported by Nürburgring through 2025; unlike vehicle classes are identified rather than presented as one apples-to-apples leaderboard.
What is the fastest Nürburgring lap?
The fastest official record-drive lap listed in Nürburgring’s 2025 recap is 5:19.546, set by Timo Bernhard in the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo in 2018. Nürburgring says it remained the all-time record through 2025. This is a prototype record, not a road-car time. Nürburgring’s 2025 record recap also gives the fastest 2025 lap: 6:22.091 by David Pittard in the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype on April 1, 2025.
Verified Nürburgring records and category examples
The circuit publishes records across vehicle categories, so the times below are a selection of verified official marks, not a ranked top ten. The dates and class labels matter: a prototype, road car, combustion sports car and compact-class entry do not share the same category conditions.
| Lap time | Vehicle and driver | Category or qualification | Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5:19.546 | Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo — Timo Bernhard | Fastest official record-drive lap; prototype | 2018 |
| 6:22.091 | Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype — David Pittard | Fastest official lap reported for 2025; prototype | 2025 |
| 6:29.090 | Mercedes-AMG ONE — Maro Engel | Fastest road car cited by Nürburgring; supercar combustion-engine mark | 2024 |
| 6:43.300 | Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit — Lars Kern | Street-legal production sports-car record as described by Nürburgring | 2021 |
| 6:52.072 | Ford Mustang GTD — Dirk Müller | Combustion sports-car category | 2025 |
| 7:25.534 | BMW M2 CS — Jörg Weidinger | Compact class | 2025 |
Nürburgring’s 2025 recap says it published 14 times across 11 vehicle categories. The six examples above are the times identified in that recap and the circuit’s separate Porsche announcement; they do not establish the other positions in a ten-place ranking. For the current category table, use the circuit’s official Nürburgring records list.

What counts as an official Nürburgring record?
Nürburgring’s record-drive methodology defines a full 20.832 km Nordschleife lap with a flying start, calibrated timing and notary supervision. The circuit groups vehicles using German Federal Motor Transport Authority categories and additional special classes. Its record-drive methodology is therefore important context: the record label and category are part of the result, not decorative details.
That distinction also separates official record drives from race laps, partial-lap figures, or unofficial attempts. A time from another layout or format should not be treated as directly interchangeable with a record-drive time on this defined route.

What is the fastest road car around the Nürburgring?
Nürburgring identifies the Mercedes-AMG ONE at 6:29.090, driven by Maro Engel in 2024, as the fastest road car of all time in its 2025 recap. This is the road-car answer, not the overall record: the 919 Hybrid Evo’s 5:19.546 is faster but belongs to a prototype. The circuit also reports the AMG ONE time as a supercar combustion-engine mark.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should you compare Nürburgring lap times?
- Check the category. Road cars, prototypes and class-specific records are different comparisons.
- Check the format. Confirm that the time is an official record drive over the full Nordschleife, rather than a race lap or another layout.
- Keep the date with the time. Records can change; the figures here are those reported in Nürburgring material through 2025.
- Include the car’s configuration. For example, the 2021 Porsche 911 GT2 RS record was set with the Manthey Performance Kit.
Nürburgring Managing Director Christian Stephani described official attempts as “much more than just a media-effective format: they are the culmination of a long technical development process and showcase the engineering achievements and performance capabilities of modern vehicles,” in the circuit’s 2025 recap.
