F1 22 is a licensed racing game built around the 2022 Formula One season. Reviews were strongest on the racing itself—especially handling, presentation and career play—while F1 Life, its new lifestyle hub, was often judged shallow. If you want current-season F1 racing, the reviews suggest a solid fit; if you want a story campaign or classic cars, the game’s additions may disappoint.
What reviewers liked about F1 22
Critics highlighted the revised driving feel and the quality of the on-track presentation. Metacritic’s critic summaries point to revamped physics, AI, track and cockpit detail, and the quality of the racing. Push Square’s PS5 review also praised the handling and career modes. These are reviewers’ assessments, not a guarantee that every player will prefer the handling or settings.

The game’s core remains racing through the licensed 2022 season, rather than its new lifestyle features. EA announced it as the official game of the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship, released on July 1, 2022. EA’s launch announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Origin and Steam.
What changed for the 2022 season
F1 22’s season-specific pitch centered on the new-era cars and related race features. Formula 1’s launch-era feature overview covers the Miami circuit and circuit updates, F1 Sprint, formation laps, Safety Car periods, revised practice programmes, F2, multiplayer and split-screen.

Why F1 Life drew criticism
F1 Life is the most consistent point of concern in the cited reviews. Metacritic’s critic summaries characterize it as poorly executed or insufficient, while Push Square also calls attention to it as a weak addition. The practical distinction is that F1 Life is a lifestyle hub, not a replacement for a deep narrative campaign.
Some reviewers also regretted the absence of the previous game’s story mode or older classic cars. That criticism matters most if you want a structured narrative or historic machinery rather than a current-season racing experience. PC Gamer’s review discusses AI and integration of current-season standings, emphasizing a different part of the game than reviews focused on F1 Life.

How much simulation control does F1 22 offer?
Players can adjust simulation settings rather than being locked into one driving experience. EA’s PS5 simulation guide documents configurable assists and damage behavior, including how damage affects car handling.
Do not assume every accessibility feature works in every mode: EA labels Adaptive AI “CASUAL RACE MODE ONLY” in that PS5 guide. The guide is specific to PS5, so check the relevant platform’s menus and guidance if you play elsewhere.

Which platform is F1 22 for?
EA’s launch announcement lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC. PlayStation’s F1 22 product page is a PS4/PS5 listing. Confirm the platform and edition before buying; the reviewed material does not establish current price, stock or online-service status.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider F1 22?
- A good match: players seeking licensed 2022-season F1 racing, adjustable driving settings, and career or race-weekend play. Reviewers particularly praised handling and presentation.
- Think twice: players whose priority is a substantial story mode, classic cars, or a deep lifestyle hub. The cited reviews identify F1 Life as a weak point and note the absence of story or classic-car content.
- Check before choosing: verify the platform edition and review the assist settings for your platform and mode, especially if you expect Adaptive AI to be available outside Casual Race Mode.
Overall, critics’ praise is concentrated on the racing, while the less convincing additions do not appear to strengthen the game for players seeking narrative or historic content. The published launch material and reviews do not establish current availability, pricing, online population or cross-play status.
