It pairs a small high-voltage battery with two electric machines: one in the PDK gearbox and one built into the turbocharger. Porsche’s published figures describe a system designed to recover and reuse energy—not an externally chargeable, electric-only commuter car.
What makes the 911’s T-Hybrid a hybrid?
The updated 992.2 911 Carrera GTS combines a newly developed 3.6-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with a 400 V high-voltage system. Porsche calls the arrangement T-Hybrid because electrification is integrated into both the drivetrain and the turbocharger. The engine remains central; electric power helps deliver torque and build boost, while recovered energy can be stored for later assistance.
Porsche’s technical press kit specifies a 1.9 kWh gross-capacity battery weighing approximately 27 kg. Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. Porsche describes energy recovery and assistance, but does not present this GTS as externally chargeable or as having an electric-only commuting mode. What do the two electric machines do?
The motor in the PDK gearbox
An electric motor sits in the housing of the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Porsche says it can provide up to 150 Nm of torque from idle and up to 40 kW (54 PS) of output. That assistance can help the engine deliver torque promptly, including at low engine speeds. The machine also performs starter and alternator functions, and can operate as a generator, feeding up to 40 kW to the high-voltage battery.

The electric machine in the turbocharger
The second machine is integrated into the exhaust turbocharger between its turbine and compressor. It can spin the compressor electrically, helping the turbo build boost sooner rather than waiting solely for exhaust flow to accelerate it. When operating as a generator, the machine can convert energy from the exhaust flow into electricity.
The roles are distinct: the gearbox motor can drive the car and recover electrical energy, while the turbocharger’s electric machine helps accelerate the compressor and can also recover energy. Porsche project manager Matthias Hofstetter describes the resulting responsiveness as “similar to a naturally aspirated engine.” That is Porsche’s characterization, not an independent test conclusion. How the battery fits into the system
The battery is the energy store linking assistance and recovery. Electricity generated by the drivetrain or turbocharger can be stored and then used by the electric machines when assistance is needed. Its 1.9 kWh figure is gross capacity; it should not be read as a stated usable driving range or as evidence of plug-in capability. Porsche’s published description focuses on a compact high-voltage buffer for performance functions, rather than long-distance electric propulsion.
The relatively small battery is part of the system’s performance-oriented packaging: Porsche lists its mass at approximately 27 kg. That figure is the battery’s stated mass, not the weight of the complete hybrid system.

What performance does Porsche claim?
Output and acceleration figures depend on which specification and market are being quoted. Porsche’s technical data for the 992.2 Carrera GTS lists 478 hp maximum engine output and 532 hp combined maximum output. Porsche USA’s current product page also states 532 hp system power and a 0–60 mph time of 2.9 seconds for its US-market GTS configuration. These are Porsche claims, not independently measured results.
| Claim | Figure | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum engine output | 478 hp | Porsche technical data for the 992.2 911 Carrera GTS. |
| Combined maximum output | 532 hp | Porsche technical data for the 992.2 911 Carrera GTS; Porsche USA also states 532 hp system power on its product page. |
| 0–60 mph | 2.9 seconds | Porsche USA product-page claim; US-market figure and configuration. |
| 0–100 km/h | 3.0 seconds | Porsche’s stated figure for a 992.2 GTS with Sport Chrono Package. |
| Preceding GTS 0–100 km/h comparison | 3.3 seconds | Porsche’s stated figure for the preceding 992.1 GTS in its comparison with the Sport Chrono-equipped 992.2. |
Do not treat 0–60 mph and 0–100 km/h times as interchangeable: they cover different distances, and Porsche’s figures also specify market or optional equipment in some cases. The 532 hp combined figure is not a separate rating for the electric motor alone. Porsche 911 Carrera GTS technical data; Porsche USA 911 Carrera GTS product page.

Which 911 models use T-Hybrid?
Porsche’s explainer lists the following models as equipped with T-Hybrid as of October 2025. Availability and model lineups can change, so the list should not be treated as a current global ordering guide.
- 911 Carrera GTS
- 911 Carrera 4 GTS
- 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet
- 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet
- 911 Targa 4 GTS
- 911 Turbo S
- 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
The implementations are not identical: Porsche says the GTS uses one electrically assisted turbocharger, while the 911 Turbo S uses two. The model list and turbocharger comparison are Porsche’s, stated as of October 2025. Porsche’s T-Hybrid explainer.

What the published figures do—and do not—establish
Porsche’s technical and product materials explain the system’s architecture and provide its own specifications and performance claims. They do not, on their own, establish independent reliability, real-world fuel savings, lifecycle environmental impact, or an efficiency comparison against another car. Those conclusions require separate evidence rather than extrapolation from the hybrid label or the battery’s capacity.
