Tesla’s quickest car on paper is not a delivered production model. The second-generation Roadster is advertised at more than 250 mph, while the fastest currently specified production Tesla is the Model S Plaid with its optional Track Package and supporting hardware.
This ranking uses Tesla-published top-speed figures only. It separates trims and configurations where Tesla gives them different limits, and it does not include aftermarket modifications, unofficial test results, or guesses for vehicles such as the Tesla Semi.

Teslas ranked by top speed
The figures below are the highest official speeds Tesla currently publishes for each listed vehicle or configuration. The ranking is numerical, so the original Roadster appears in its proper position even though it is a historical model and the new Roadster is still an announced product.

1. Tesla Roadster: 250+ mph
Tesla’s current Roadster page lists a top speed of “+250 mph,” putting it well ahead of every other Tesla in this ranking. That number needs a major caveat: this is the second-generation Roadster, which remains an announcement and reservation vehicle rather than a regularly delivered production car.

Therefore, 250-plus mph is Tesla’s stated target, not a verified top-speed result from customer-owned production cars. It should not be compared with the governed speeds of currently available Teslas as though both figures have the same production status.
2. Tesla Model S Plaid: 200 mph
The Model S Plaid is the fastest Tesla with a published production-car capability, but its headline 200-mph figure is conditional. Tesla lists 200 mph only with the paid Track Package or equivalent required hardware. The standard, unupgraded Plaid limit is 163 mph.
Tesla’s owner’s manual says achieving 200 mph requires the Tesla Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit and appropriate high-speed tires. Tesla also warns that the speed should not be attempted without that equipment and that the capability is intended for closed-course use, not public roads.
The Track Package is compatible with Model S Plaid vehicles produced from 2022 onward and unlocks a stated top speed of 322 km/h, approximately 200 mph. In other words, buying a Model S Plaid alone does not automatically make the car a 200-mph vehicle.
3. Tesla Model 3 Performance: 163 mph
The current Model 3 Performance has an official top speed of 163 mph. It is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive car, and Tesla pairs that speed rating with a claimed 0–60 mph time of 2.9 seconds.
Older articles often quote 162 mph for the Model 3 Performance. Tesla’s current Model 3 page lists 163 mph, so the newer figure is the appropriate one for this ranking. The difference may reflect an updated specification or rounding, rather than a meaningful change that drivers would notice on the road.
4. Tesla Model X Plaid: 163 mph
The tri-motor Model X Plaid is also officially rated at 163 mph. Despite sharing the Model S Plaid name and powertrain branding, it does not receive the Model S Plaid’s 200-mph rating.

Tesla’s current page lists the Model X specification, while also stating that Model X is no longer in production; used examples remain available.
5. Tesla Model Y Performance: 155 mph
The current Model Y Performance is listed at 155 mph. Tesla’s U.S. Model Y page also gives this version a claimed 0–60 mph time of 3.3 seconds.
Tesla has published the same 155-mph figure for the newer Model Y Performance announcement, so the speed applies to the updated performance version as well. It is 8 mph below the Model 3 Performance and 8 mph above the non-Plaid Model X’s listed limit.
6. Tesla Model X Dual Motor: 155 mph
The non-Plaid, dual-motor Model X has a published top speed of 155 mph. That puts it level with the Model Y Performance, but below the 163-mph Model X Plaid.

This is a current Tesla-published specification even though Tesla says the Model X is no longer in production. Buyers looking at this version will therefore generally be considering used inventory rather than ordering a new vehicle.
7. Tesla Model S: 130 mph
The current non-Plaid Model S is listed at 130 mph. This is separate from the Model S Plaid: the Plaid is limited to 163 mph without its paid hardware upgrade and can reach the published 200-mph figure only with the required brakes, tires and Track Package equipment.
Older Model S specifications can create confusion here. Tesla previously listed some Model S versions at 140 mph and performance versions at 155 mph. Those historical figures should not replace the current 130-mph specification for the non-Plaid Model S.
8 and 9. Cybertruck Cyberbeast and Premium AWD: 130 mph
Tesla gives both the Cybertruck Cyberbeast and Cybertruck Premium All-Wheel Drive a 130-mph top-speed specification. They share the same published maximum even though they are different powertrain configurations.
The 130-mph number does not apply to every Cybertruck. Tesla specifically associates it with the Premium AWD and Cyberbeast versions, while the Dual Motor AWD configuration has a lower 112-mph rating.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.10. Original Tesla Roadster: 125 mph
The first-generation Tesla Roadster had an official top speed of approximately 125 mph. It was produced from 2008 through 2012 and is unrelated to the second-generation Roadster that Tesla currently advertises at more than 250 mph.
Keeping these two cars separate matters. One is a historical production sports car with a published specification; the other is an announced vehicle whose advertised top speed has not been demonstrated by delivered customer cars.
11. Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD: 112 mph
The Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive has a listed top speed of 112 mph. It is the slowest Cybertruck configuration in Tesla’s current published specifications, sitting 18 mph below the 130-mph Premium AWD and Cyberbeast versions.

What about the Tesla Semi?
The Tesla Semi cannot be assigned a meaningful place in this ranking because Tesla does not currently publish a top-speed figure for it. Tesla’s Semi page gives information such as range, powertrain, gross combination weight, charging and energy consumption, but not maximum speed.
It would be misleading to insert a guessed number into a ranking based on official Tesla specifications. Tesla currently says Semi deliveries start in 2026, but that delivery timing does not provide a top-speed figure.
Why Tesla top-speed comparisons need caution
- Configuration changes the result. A Plaid badge, Performance badge or Cybertruck name does not identify one universal top speed. Tesla publishes separate figures for different versions.
- Optional equipment can be decisive. The Model S Plaid’s 200-mph capability depends on paid hardware, brakes and tires. Its ordinary 163-mph limit is the relevant figure for an unupgraded car.
- Speed ratings are not acceleration times. A Tesla can be exceptionally quick from 0 to 60 mph without having the highest maximum speed. The Model Y Performance, for example, is rated at 155 mph despite its 3.3-second 0–60-mph claim.
- Published figures are not all equally verified. The new Roadster’s 250-plus mph number is an announced target, while the other listed figures are tied to Tesla’s production or historical vehicle specifications.
- Public-road legality and safety still apply. Tesla’s 200-mph Model S Plaid capability is intended for a closed course. A top-speed ranking is not an invitation to test these limits on public roads.
FAQ
What is the fastest Tesla?
The second-generation Tesla Roadster has the highest advertised figure, at more than 250 mph, but it remains an announced reservation vehicle. Among production Teslas, the Model S Plaid can reach 200 mph with the required Track Package hardware, carbon-ceramic brakes and suitable tires.
What is the top speed of a Model S Plaid without the Track Package?
Tesla states that the standard or unupgraded Model S Plaid is limited to 163 mph. The 200-mph capability requires the paid upgrade and supporting high-speed equipment.

The current Model 3 Performance and Model X Plaid are both listed at 163 mph. The Model S Plaid also has a 163-mph standard limit before its 200-mph hardware upgrade.
Does the Tesla Semi have an official top speed?
No. Tesla’s current Semi specifications do not publish a top-speed figure, so it should be marked as not officially specified rather than assigned a guessed position.
The Bottom Line
The announced second-generation Roadster leads Tesla’s ranking with a claimed 250-plus mph, but the Model S Plaid is the fastest production Tesla in Tesla’s published specifications. Its 200-mph figure is conditional: without the paid upgrade and required brakes and tires, the Plaid is limited to 163 mph. The Model 3 Performance and Model X Plaid follow at 163 mph, while the rest of Tesla’s listed lineup ranges from 155 mph down to 112 mph.
