Hyundai models made in Alabama
Hyundai Santa Fe
The Santa Fe is currently assembled at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Montgomery. HMMA has built Santa Fe nameplate vehicles during more than one period: the plant produced the Santa Fe from 2006 through 2010, and Santa Fe production later returned after the Santa Fe Sport was renamed Santa Fe in 2018.
That history matters because “Santa Fe production began in 2006” can be misleading if it is read as one continuous run. The nameplate has had separate Alabama production periods.
For owners, Hyundai Santa Fe accessories can be useful, but fitment should always be checked by model year, body generation, trim, and—where applicable—hybrid versus non-hybrid powertrain. Floor mats and cargo liners are not automatically interchangeable across generations.
Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid
HMMA announced that Santa Fe Hybrid production would begin in October 2022. The plant’s July 2025 fact sheet identifies the Santa Fe Hybrid as one of its active Hyundai production models.
Hyundai’s 2022 announcement described the start of Santa Fe Hybrid production as the beginning of the company’s U.S. electric-vehicle production, using “electric vehicle” in the broad electrified-vehicle sense. The Santa Fe Hybrid is a hybrid, not a battery-electric vehicle like the IONIQ 5 or IONIQ 9.
Hyundai Tucson
The current-generation Tucson entered HMMA production in February 2021 as a 2022 model-year vehicle. It remains on the plant’s active production list.
The available plant documentation confirms Tucson assembly in Alabama, but it does not establish that every Tucson powertrain, trim, or model-year configuration sold in the United States is assembled there. Do not assume that a Tucson is Alabama-built solely because the vehicle is a Tucson; verify the particular vehicle’s VIN and window sticker.
Common ownership purchases include Hyundai Tucson accessories, such as floor mats, cargo liners, roof-rack equipment, and emergency gear. Confirm compatibility with the exact model year, body style, drivetrain, and trim before ordering.
Hyundai Santa Cruz
The Santa Cruz began production at HMMA in June 2021 as a 2022 model-year vehicle and remains an active Alabama-built model. Hyundai describes it as a Sport Adventure Vehicle, combining SUV-like characteristics with an open cargo bed.
That bed makes the Santa Cruz different from the other Alabama-built Hyundai models when it comes to ownership equipment. Buyers may be looking for Hyundai Santa Cruz accessories, including bed mats, tie-down equipment, cargo organizers, and tonneau-related products. Model-year confirmation is especially important because bed and cargo-area accessories are highly shape-specific.

Hyundai models made in Georgia
Hyundai IONIQ 5
The IONIQ 5 was the first Hyundai model assembled at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Bryan County, Georgia, near Savannah. Hyundai announced that production began at the new facility in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the 2025 IONIQ 5 identified as the first Hyundai product range manufactured there.

Hyundai’s 2026 model information continues to identify the IONIQ 5 as U.S.-assembled. The original production announcement described HMGMA as eventually becoming the sole facility building IONIQ 5 models for the U.S. market, with an exclusion for the IONIQ 5 N in that announcement. Because production assignments can change, verify the assembly information for a specific vehicle rather than applying a plant statement to every IONIQ 5 variant.
Hyundai IONIQ 9
The IONIQ 9 became the second Hyundai model manufactured at HMGMA. Hyundai’s U.S. pricing announcement states that all 2026 IONIQ 9 models sold in the United States would be built at the Bryan County, Georgia, facility. Hyundai later identified the 2027 IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink as assembled there as well.
The IONIQ 9 is a battery-electric vehicle, so home charging is a more relevant ownership consideration than it is for the Santa Fe Hybrid. A 240-volt Level 2 EV charger may be appropriate for home use, but charger selection and installation depend on the vehicle’s charging connection, the home’s electrical service, circuit capacity, local requirements, and the installer’s assessment.
Historical Hyundai models assembled in the U.S.
Several Hyundai nameplates were built in America but are not on the latest active HMMA production list. They should be described as historically U.S.-assembled rather than currently U.S.-built.
| Model | Documented U.S. production history | Current classification |
|---|---|---|
| Sonata | HMMA’s first production model; 2006 Sonata production began in May 2005 and continued until February 2022. | Formerly U.S.-assembled |
| Santa Fe | Built at HMMA from 2006 through 2010, with later Alabama production after the Santa Fe Sport was renamed Santa Fe in 2018. | Currently assembled, but not through one uninterrupted production run |
| Santa Fe Sport | Production returned to HMMA in June 2016. The name was changed to Santa Fe in 2018. | Former name; current successor is Santa Fe |
| Elantra | HMMA production began in November 2010 and continued until May 2023. | Formerly U.S.-assembled |
| Tucson | Current-generation production began at HMMA in February 2021 as a 2022 model-year vehicle. | Currently assembled |
| Santa Cruz | HMMA production began in June 2021 as a 2022 model-year vehicle. | Currently assembled |
| Santa Fe Hybrid | HMMA production began in October 2022. | Currently assembled |
| IONIQ 5 | HMGMA’s first Hyundai production vehicle; Georgia production began in the fourth quarter of 2024. | Currently assembled |
| IONIQ 9 | HMGMA’s second Hyundai model; all 2026 U.S.-market models were announced as Georgia-built. | Currently assembled |
Why the Sonata and Elantra are not on the current list
The Sonata and Elantra are still familiar Hyundai models, but current lineup availability does not prove current U.S. assembly. The latest detailed HMMA production fact sheet located for this research says Sonata production ended in February 2022 and Elantra production ended in May 2023. HMMA’s current vehicle page presents the Santa Fe, Tucson, and Santa Cruz instead.
One older Hyundai USA FAQ gives a broader list that includes the Sonata and Elantra as HMMA-built vehicles. That information conflicts with the newer, plant-specific production fact sheet and current HMMA vehicle page. For present-production questions, the newer plant documents are stronger evidence. A used Sonata or Elantra can still be American-assembled; it should not be labeled a current Alabama-built model.
U.S.-assembled does not mean 100% American-made
“Made in the U.S.A.” is convenient shorthand, but assembled in the United States is more precise. Final assembly in Alabama or Georgia does not mean every part originated in the United States, nor does it establish that the engine, battery, electronics, steel, or other components are American-sourced.
The phrase also does not answer every question relevant to incentives or ownership. Domestic-content rules can use their own definitions, percentages, and eligibility tests. Those rules may change by vehicle, model year, battery sourcing, and purchase date. Anyone evaluating a tax credit or other government program should check the current official requirements for the exact VIN and transaction—not rely only on the assembly plant.

How to verify where a particular Hyundai was assembled
- Start with the VIN. Record the complete 17-character vehicle identification number from the dashboard, driver-side door label, registration, or purchase documents.
- Read the window sticker. For a new vehicle, the Monroney label normally identifies the final assembly point and provides other origin information. Use the sticker for that exact vehicle, not a generic model listing.
- Check the model year and configuration. Production can change during a model-year transition. Drivetrain, hybrid status, trim, and destination market may affect where a vehicle is built.
- Use manufacturer owner resources. Hyundai’s VIN-specific owner tools, vehicle documentation, warranty information, and manuals can help confirm the vehicle’s identity and configuration.
- Ask the dealer for the build details. If the assembly location matters to your purchase, request the vehicle’s window sticker or factory information in writing.
For a used Hyundai, the VIN is particularly important. A nameplate may have been assembled in more than one country, and a production change can separate two vehicles that look nearly identical on a dealer’s listing.

Useful ownership items for U.S.-assembled Hyundai models
The assembly location does not determine which accessories fit. Compatibility is controlled by model year, generation, trim, body style, drivetrain, and sometimes the presence of a hybrid system or factory cargo equipment.
- Santa Fe: compare floor mats, cargo liners, organizers, and roof or travel accessories by generation and hybrid status.
- Tucson: check cargo liners, floor protection, roof-rack components, and emergency equipment against the exact year and drivetrain.
- Santa Cruz: prioritize bed mats, tie-downs, cargo organizers, and bed-cover equipment that matches the vehicle’s bed configuration.
- IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9: confirm charging equipment, connector compatibility, electrical requirements, and installation conditions before purchase.
- Any used Hyundai: a model-year-specific owner’s manual or replacement handbook can be useful if the original documentation is missing. An official digital manual may be available, so check Hyundai’s owner resources before buying a physical replacement.
Home charging for the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9
Hyundai identifies 240-volt Level 2 charging as a home-charging option for its electric vehicles and notes that charging equipment is supplied by third parties through its Hyundai Home marketplace. The charger is not automatically included simply because the vehicle is an IONIQ model.
A Level 2 charger can reduce charging time compared with a standard household outlet, but installation is not a one-size-fits-all purchase. Before ordering a Level 2 charger for Hyundai IONIQ 5 or a home charger for Hyundai IONIQ 9, check:

Bottom line
The current documented U.S.-assembled Hyundai list is the Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, Tucson, and Santa Cruz in Montgomery, Alabama, and the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 in Bryan County, Georgia.
The Sonata and Elantra were also assembled in Alabama, but their documented production ended in 2022 and 2023, respectively. When shopping, treat the list as a starting point: verify the exact vehicle with its VIN and window sticker, especially for hybrids, special variants, used vehicles, and model-year changeovers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Hyundai models are currently made in the USA?
As of August 12, 2026, Hyundai’s documented U.S.-assembled models are the Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, Tucson, Santa Cruz, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 9. The first four are assembled in Alabama, while the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 are assembled in Georgia.
Does U.S.-assembled mean the Hyundai is 100% American-made?
No. U.S. assembly means the vehicle’s final assembly takes place in the United States. Hyundai uses both domestic and foreign-sourced parts, so an Alabama- or Georgia-assembled Hyundai is not necessarily made entirely from American components.
Are the Hyundai Sonata and Elantra still built in the United States?
No. Hyundai’s detailed recent HMMA production information says Sonata production ended in February 2022 and Elantra production ended in May 2023. Both are historically U.S.-assembled, but neither is on the current HMMA production list.
How can I check where my Hyundai was assembled?
Use the vehicle’s VIN and window sticker. The model name alone is not precise enough because assembly can vary by model year, drivetrain, trim, destination, and production transition.
Which U.S.-assembled Hyundai models can use home Level 2 charging?
The IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 are battery-electric vehicles, and Hyundai identifies 240-volt Level 2 home charging as an option. Charger compatibility, electrical capacity, installation method, and local requirements should be checked before purchase.
The Bottom Line
Current answer: Hyundai’s documented U.S.-assembled models are the Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, Tucson, and Santa Cruz from Alabama, plus the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 from Georgia. The Sonata and Elantra are former U.S.-assembled models. Because assembly can vary by model year and configuration, verify any individual vehicle by VIN and window sticker.
