Every Carmaker Planning to Use Apple CarPlay Ultra—What’s Confirmed

Aston Martin is the only confirmed CarPlay Ultra launch brand. Here’s what Apple has committed, what remains reported, and which older names no longer belong on the list.

As of August 16, 2026, Aston Martin is the only automaker with a clearly established CarPlay Ultra rollout. Apple has explicitly committed Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis to the platform, while Ford, Honda, Land Rover, Nissan, and Porsche remain associated with reported or earlier plans. That does not mean every model from those brands will support Ultra—or that any particular vehicle is available with it today.

CarPlay Ultra brands at a glance

Brand Current status What buyers can safely assume
Aston Martin Available now The first confirmed launch; began with compatible new vehicles in the U.S. and Canada on May 15, 2025.
Hyundai Explicitly committed Named by Apple, but a complete model list and public rollout schedule remain unclear.
Kia Explicitly committed Named by Apple, but model, market, and timing details remain unclear.
Genesis Explicitly committed Named independently by Apple; no complete production rollout list was established.
Ford Reported continuing plan Apple cooperation continues, but no production Ultra model or launch date is established here.
Honda Reported or previously committed Associated with Ultra plans; no verified production model or launch date is established.
Land Rover Reported or previously committed Associated with Ultra plans; ordinary CarPlay availability does not prove Ultra support.
Nissan Reported or previously committed Associated with Ultra plans; do not assume current Nissan models include it.
Porsche Previously committed / expected An early partner, but no confirmed shipping model was established in the reviewed sources.

This is a confidence-ranked list, not a list of every brand that once appeared in an Apple presentation or an older news story.

What is CarPlay Ultra?

CarPlay Ultra is Apple’s next-generation, vehicle-integrated version of CarPlay. Unlike conventional CarPlay, which typically occupies the center infotainment display, Ultra is designed to extend across the car’s driver-facing screens—including the instrument cluster and other displays.

  • Vehicle status information
  • Controls for functions such as climate or drive settings
  • The automaker’s own branding and visual design language

Those are platform capabilities, not a promise that every participating brand will expose every function. Apple’s developer documentation also makes an important boundary clear: the vehicle’s built-in system remains responsible for driving-related features. Ultra does not replace the car’s core control systems with an iPhone.

How Ultra differs from ordinary CarPlay

Traditional CarPlay is primarily a phone-projection system for navigation, audio, calls, messages, and compatible apps. It may be wired or wireless, and it generally appears on the center screen.

CarPlay Ultra is intended to be a deeper layer of integration. It can span all driver displays, use the instrument cluster for Apple-designed gauges, and communicate with selected vehicle systems through the automaker’s implementation. Apple describes the experience as wireless: it appears when the vehicle’s displays turn on and the driver’s iPhone is present.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters because a wireless CarPlay adapter cannot create CarPlay Ultra. An adapter can make ordinary wired CarPlay wireless; it cannot add factory instrument-cluster integration, vehicle-control access, or the hardware and software architecture Ultra requires.

1. Aston Martin: the only confirmed live launch

Aston Martin was the first automaker to deliver CarPlay Ultra. Apple said the experience became available with new Aston Martin vehicle orders in the United States and Canada on May 15, 2025. Aston Martin announced the launch separately on the same date.

Apple also described a software-update path for existing Aston Martin vehicles equipped with the company’s latest-generation infotainment system. That does not mean every older Aston Martin qualifies. Availability can depend on the exact model, model year, infotainment hardware, market, and configuration.

  • Compact design: The wireless carplay adapter will not block any interface, and its small size ensures that it will not interfere with other devices and save space

Buyer confidence: highest—but still model-specific. Aston Martin is the only brand in the reviewed primary launch material with an established retail rollout. Confirm the feature on the exact vehicle rather than assuming it applies across the entire lineup. See Apple’s launch announcement and Aston Martin’s announcement.

2. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis: explicit Apple commitments

Apple named Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis as newly committed CarPlay Ultra brands in its May 2025 launch announcement. Apple listed the three brands separately, so a commitment from one should not automatically be treated as a confirmed rollout for the others—even though they share corporate ownership.

The announcement did not provide a complete model list, market-by-market availability, a firm public launch schedule, or a general retrofit policy. Until those details are published, “committed” is the accurate term; “available on all new vehicles” is not.

Buyer confidence: meaningful future commitment, insufficient for a purchase decision by itself. Check the exact model and trim with the automaker or dealer before placing a deposit. Official brand sites include Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.

3. Ford: continuing Apple cooperation, but no verified Ultra timetable

Ford remains associated with CarPlay Ultra plans in current reporting, but the evidence needs careful interpretation. In July 2026, Apple announced that Apple Maps would be integrated into Ford’s new Universal EV platform while conventional CarPlay would remain available in Ford vehicles. That confirms continued Apple-Ford cooperation, not a CarPlay Ultra production launch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A later report attributed continued interest in Ultra to Ford CEO Jim Farley while also describing dissatisfaction with the first version’s execution. That is a reported executive position, not a published Ford model timetable.

Buyer confidence: unresolved. Ford and Apple have not publicly established, in the sources reviewed, a production Ultra model, launch date, or full compatibility list. Do not confuse Apple Maps integrated into Ford’s native system with CarPlay Ultra. See Apple’s Ford announcement.

4. Honda, Land Rover, Nissan, and Porsche: associated with plans

Honda

Honda appeared in earlier next-generation CarPlay partner lists and is included in current reporting about brands expected to support Ultra. No definitive production model, launch date, or retrofit policy was established in the reviewed sources.

Land Rover

Land Rover was associated with next-generation CarPlay and remains on reported current lists. Apple’s general CarPlay information confirms ordinary CarPlay availability for multiple Land Rover models, but that is not proof of Ultra support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nissan

Nissan is also included in current reporting about expected Ultra participants and remains listed by Apple for conventional CarPlay. That does not establish Ultra availability in current Nissan vehicles.

Porsche

Porsche was an early next-generation CarPlay partner. Aston Martin launched first, but the reviewed sources did not show Porsche shipping CarPlay Ultra by the August 16, 2026 snapshot. Some Porsche vehicles may offer deeper conventional CarPlay integration, including access to certain vehicle functions, but enhanced ordinary CarPlay should not be labeled Ultra unless Porsche or Apple identifies it that way.

Buyer confidence for all four: reported or previously committed, but not model-confirmed. A current assessment from 9to5Mac identifies these brands among those still expected to support Ultra, but reporting is not equivalent to a model-specific retail announcement.

Brands that should not be counted as current supporters

Many older articles repeat the original, much longer partner list. Current reporting says the following brands are no longer safe to present as active CarPlay Ultra participants:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • BMW: reported to have said it has no plans to integrate Ultra.
  • Mercedes-Benz: reported to have abandoned earlier plans.
  • Audi, Volvo, Polestar, and Renault: reported to have decided against supporting Ultra despite earlier association with the project.

These withdrawal reports should be attributed rather than presented as direct statements from every automaker. The key point for shoppers is that an old partner list is not current proof.

What about Toyota, Lexus, GM, Tesla, Volkswagen, Acura, Infiniti, and Jaguar?

The reviewed sources do not establish current CarPlay Ultra commitments for Toyota, Lexus, General Motors, Tesla, Volkswagen, Acura, Infiniti, or Jaguar. That is not proof that these brands will never support Ultra; it means there is no sufficiently strong current commitment to include them in the verified roster.

Corporate relationships do not fill that evidence gap. Honda and Acura, Nissan and Infiniti, Land Rover and Jaguar, and Porsche and Audi should be treated as separate brands unless each receives a brand-specific announcement. Likewise, a Porsche commitment would not automatically establish an Audi commitment simply because both are part of the Volkswagen Group.

Can an existing car be upgraded?

Do not generalize across brands. Aston Martin has described an update path for existing vehicles with its latest-generation infotainment system. The reviewed material does not establish equivalent upgrades for Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Ford, Honda, Land Rover, Nissan, or Porsche.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before assuming an update is possible, verify:

  1. The exact model and model year
  2. The infotainment hardware generation
  3. The vehicle’s instrument-cluster and control-module compatibility
  4. Your country or region
  5. Whether the update is over the air, dealer-installed, or unavailable
  6. Whether any subscription or service terms apply

Ordinary CarPlay support is much broader than Ultra support. Apple’s general CarPlay page and available-model database are useful for checking conventional compatibility, but they are not a definitive CarPlay Ultra roster.

What buyers should check before choosing a vehicle

Use this evidence hierarchy:

  1. A vehicle is currently advertised with CarPlay Ultra.
  2. The automaker publishes a model-specific announcement.
  3. Apple names a model or launch timing.
  4. The brand makes a general commitment.
  5. An executive discusses the plan.
  6. Industry reporting or an old partner list mentions the brand.

Only the first two categories should normally influence an immediate purchase decision. Ask the dealer or automaker:

  • Is Ultra installed on this exact VIN, model year, and trim?
  • Does it operate in the instrument cluster and other driver displays?
  • Which vehicle controls are supported?
  • Is it standard, optional, subscription-based, or subject to regional restrictions?
  • Can this vehicle be updated later, and who performs the update?
  • What happens if the iPhone is absent, disconnected, or out of battery?
  • Will the native navigation, climate, charging, and driver-assistance controls remain usable?

CarPlay Ultra relies on the driver’s iPhone, so the vehicle’s native software still matters. Test the car without the phone present, especially if the vehicle may later be sold to an Android user or someone who leaves the phone at home. Also evaluate native navigation, charging-route planning, offline operation, software updates, rear-seat functions, and dealer service procedures.

Can an aftermarket system add CarPlay Ultra?

No. Aftermarket systems from vendors such as Alpine, Blaupunkt, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony can add or improve conventional CarPlay in compatible vehicles. They cannot reproduce the factory-level instrument-cluster integration and vehicle-system access required by CarPlay Ultra.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you need CarPlay now in an older vehicle, an aftermarket head unit may be a sensible solution—but it should not be marketed or purchased as an Ultra upgrade. Avoid any claim that a wireless adapter can add Ultra to an ordinary CarPlay car.

Bottom line

Aston Martin is the only brand with a clearly established CarPlay Ultra launch in the reviewed material, beginning with compatible U.S. and Canadian vehicle orders on May 15, 2025. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have explicit commitments from Apple. Ford, Honda, Land Rover, Nissan, and Porsche remain associated with reported or earlier plans, but their model-level availability and timing are not sufficiently documented here. Treat the feature as a purchase factor only when the automaker confirms it for the exact vehicle you are buying.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
