EPC positions enhancement-mode gallium nitride (eGaN) FETs and integrated circuits for automotive power conversion and compact motion systems where switching frequency, efficiency, size, and power density matter. Its automotive materials cover 48 V systems, lidar and ADAS, motor drives, infotainment, and headlamps; its robotics materials cover DC-DC conversion, lidar/time-of-flight sensing, and brushless DC (BLDC) motors. These are manufacturer-described applications and performance claims, not independent comparative test results.
Where EPC says GaN fits in automotive systems
EPC’s automotive portfolio page identifies several uses for its FETs and ICs:
- 48 V power systems: power distribution and DC-DC conversion, including bidirectional 48 V-to-12 V conversion for mild hybrids.
- Lidar and ADAS: power electronics for sensing and advanced driver-assistance systems.
- Motor drives: vehicle motor applications, including BLDC drives.
- Infotainment and audio: infotainment systems and Class-D audio.
- Headlamps: high-intensity vehicle lighting.
A June 2023 EPC automotive brief also discusses 24 V-to-48 V DC-DC conversion for cars and trucks. That is an application example in the dated brief, not a current recommendation for a particular design; check current product documentation when selecting a component.
EPC2206: a specific automotive FET example
EPC describes the EPC2206 as an 80 V enhancement-mode GaN transistor that is AEC-Q101 qualified. Its product page lists a maximum on-resistance (RDS(on)) of 2.2 mΩ, 90 A drain current, and 390 A pulsed drain current. EPC names 48 V power distribution, DC-DC conversion, BLDC motor drives, infotainment, high-intensity headlamps, and 48 V-to-12 V bidirectional mild-hybrid converters as applications.

The automotive selector labels the EPC2206 “Preferred.” Qualification and status are product-specific: verify the current datasheet and qualification documents for the exact part and its intended use. An AEC-Q101 qualification is not, by itself, evidence that a complete vehicle system meets every automotive reliability or safety requirement.
Where EPC says GaN fits in robotics and compact motion
EPC’s 2023 robotics market brief groups applications into three areas:
Rank #2
- BOJACK High Quality BJT Transistors.
- Product Name: 2N2222 Transistors
- Transistor Type: NPN
- Transistor parameter:60V 0.8A 0.5W 250MHZ
- Package Quantity: 200pcs , Packed in A Rugged Convenient Re-sealable Plastic Storage Case.
- DC-DC supplies: power conversion within robotic systems.

For integrated robotic motors, the brief gives an application example of 48–100 V input, 10–40 A, and 500 W–2 kW. Those figures describe EPC’s cited application range; they are not a universal specification for robotic motors or for every EPC device.
The same brief says its described ToF systems can use switching “up to 200 MHz” and pulses under 2 ns. These are vendor claims in a specific sensing context, not a general performance guarantee for every eGaN part or circuit.

Newer inverter evaluation platforms
In an announcement dated April 14, 2026, EPC introduced two three-phase BLDC inverter evaluation platforms, EPC9186HC2 and EPC9186HC3, based on the EPC2361 100 V eGaN FET. EPC says the platforms support motor-drive systems up to 5 kW and identifies robotics, industrial automation, light electric vehicles, scooters, forklifts, agricultural machinery, battery-powered mobility, and high-power drones as intended applications.
“Up to 5 kW” is EPC’s stated platform capability, not a rating that applies to every motor, operating condition, or GaN system. The announcement alone does not establish current inventory or suitability for a particular motor. Compare the platform’s bus-voltage and phase-current limits, PWM and sensing features, protection, required control hardware, and compatibility with the target motor and mechanical envelope.

- High Quality BJT Transistors.
- Product Name: 2N2222 Transistors

Integrated power stages and newer robotics material
A May 2026 EPC technical article discusses its Gen 7 portfolio and integrated ePower Stage ICs, including EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111, for humanoid robotics, drone propulsion, and compact motion systems. It also describes the EPC91122 and EPC91132 reference designs based on EPC33110, and reports demonstration plans for a robotic arm and drone propulsion system. These are EPC’s product positioning and stated plans; they do not constitute independent comparative validation.

A device or evaluation platform should be assessed against the actual electrical and mechanical demands of the design, rather than selected from an application label alone.

For a FET or integrated power device
- Confirm the maximum drain-source voltage against the bus voltage and relevant transients.
- Compare on-resistance, continuous and pulsed current ratings, and the conditions attached to those ratings.
- Review gate charge, switching behavior, and gate-drive requirements in the intended topology.
- Check package, thermal path, layout needs, and the system’s cooling constraints.
- For automotive use, confirm the exact part’s qualification and reliability documentation against the project’s requirements.
For an inverter evaluation platform
- Match bus-voltage and phase-current capability to the motor and operating range.
- Check switching and PWM features, sensing, protection, and included hardware.
- Confirm control implementation and compatibility with the intended motor and mechanical envelope.
- Review the platform documentation for operating limits and integration requirements before treating a headline power figure as usable design capacity.
EPC product pages provide datasheets, evaluation boards, application notes, device models, and design tools. These resources can support an initial comparison, but application-specific engineering is still needed to verify performance, thermal behavior, and compliance in the finished system.
What EPC’s performance claims establish—and what they do not
EPC says its latest-generation GaN devices can increase efficiency, shrink system size, and reduce system cost in robotic DC power systems. It also promotes benefits such as improved precision and reduced EMI in its application materials. Treat these as manufacturer claims: the cited materials do not provide independent comparative test results establishing a particular efficiency gain, size reduction, cost saving, or EMI outcome for every application.
The published figures are useful for identifying examples and possible design directions, but they are tied to a specific product, platform, or application statement. EPC’s materials establish that it markets eGaN devices and related hardware for these use cases; they do not establish broad market adoption or a universal advantage over other technologies.
