Hazar Denli, a mechanical engineer who worked on VinFast suspension development through Tata Technologies, says he raised concerns about a loosening front suspension connection and later lost a separate consulting job linked to Jaguar Land Rover after posting publicly about the project. The reporting describes the safety concerns and the connection between his posts and dismissal as allegations; it does not establish a legal finding of retaliation or that a VinFast vehicle crash was caused by the alleged defect.
Who was the engineer, and which companies were involved?
Road & Track reported that Denli joined the project in September 2022 as a chassis design specialist at Tata Technologies, working on suspension for Vietnamese automaker VinFast. According to its account, he led front suspension development work. Tata Technologies is part of Tata Group, which owns Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
The reporting describes two distinct work relationships: Denli’s work on the VinFast project through Tata Technologies, and a later consulting-engineer role through an agency contracted by JLR. Keeping those roles separate matters: he reportedly resigned from the VinFast project after a requested reassignment was denied, then was dismissed from the later JLR-linked consulting role after his public Reddit posts attracted attention. What safety problem did Denli say he found?
Denli told the BBC, as quoted by Road & Track, that the engineering team recorded six critical suspension failures during testing. He singled out a front strut-to-knuckle connection that was loosening and warned of a risk that could become severe enough for a wheel to come off: “We saw, for example, the front strut-to-knuckle connection was loosening, which could be extremely dangerous,” he said. Road & Track reports that Denli said he escalated the concern to senior managers at Tata and VinFast and that development continued toward production.

These are reported accounts of testing and management decisions, not independently established engineering findings. The underlying test records and an independent technical review are not available in the cited reporting, so the reported count and defect description should be understood as Denli’s account rather than a verified assessment of production vehicles.
How did the project departure and reported dismissal unfold?

- May 2023: After raising concerns and requesting reassignment, he reportedly resigned from the VinFast project when that request was denied.
- Later consulting work: Denli worked as a consulting engineer through an agency contracted by JLR.
- After his Reddit posts: Reporting says JLR dismissed him from that consulting role after he publicly described his VinFast experience. Carscoops says Denli intended to pursue an employment tribunal, but the reviewed reports do not establish a later tribunal or court outcome.
The timing is reported, but it is not the same as a legal determination that the dismissal was retaliation. The available accounts do not establish a final finding on why JLR ended the consulting arrangement.

What did the companies say?
Road & Track reported the companies’ responses to the BBC’s inquiries: Tata Group declined to comment; JLR said it does not comment on ongoing litigation; and VinFast said it had no control over Tata Group’s human-resources processes. These statements do not resolve Denli’s technical allegations or the reason for his dismissal.

No causal link is established by the cited reporting. Carscoops reported that Denli’s public account referred to a family of four who died in a VinFast VF8 crash in California in April 2024; Road & Track identifies it as a single-vehicle crash in Pleasanton and reports that it prompted an NHTSA investigation. The sources do not show that the alleged suspension issue caused the crash.

A separate recall should not be conflated with Denli’s claim. Carscoops reported that VinFast recalled 2,800 vehicles in early 2023 over a bolt connecting the brake caliper to the knuckle. That brake-related recall does not, by itself, prove the reported concern about a front strut-to-knuckle suspension connection. Carscoops’ report discusses both matters.
