PerthNow reported that an emu crossing Del Park Road struck a northbound motorcycle near Marrinup on June 7, 2024. The 69-year-old rider and 59-year-old pillion passenger were taken to Royal Perth Hospital by helicopter; the outlet said both were stable, with the man believed to be more seriously injured.
What happened in the Marrinup crash?
According to Hannah Cross’s PerthNow report, published June 8, 2024, police were called shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, to a motorcycle crash in Marrinup, north of Dwellingup. The crash happened on Del Park Road near the South Dandalup Dam access-road intersection.
The report said a 69-year-old man riding a green Kawasaki motorcycle and a 59-year-old woman travelling as pillion were heading north when an emu crossed the road and struck the motorcycle. The motorcycle model and the emu’s fate were not reported.
Where were the riders taken, and what was their condition?
PerthNow reported that paramedics and firefighters attended. The two people were taken to Dwellingup, where an RAC Rescue helicopter picked them up and flew them to Royal Perth Hospital. The article said both were in stable condition and that the man was believed to be more seriously injured. It did not give their names or any later medical update.
