Emelia Hartford’s modified Nissan Z reportedly covered the quarter mile in 7.75 seconds at 181 mph at Famoso Dragway in Bakersfield, California, in December 2024. That makes it a striking Nissan Z drag-strip result—not proof that it is among the world’s fastest cars across every category or by top speed.
What Hartford’s Nissan Z achieved
HOT ROD reported the 7.75-second, 181-mph pass at Famoso Dragway in December 2024. Motor1 reported the same elapsed time and a rounded speed of 181 mph. The elapsed time is how long the car took to complete the quarter mile; the trap speed is its speed at the end of that measured distance.
Those figures support describing the car as a reported quickest-and-fastest Nissan Z drag-strip entry. They do not establish a world ranking among all cars, a maximum top speed, or a land-speed record. “Fastest” only makes sense when the category and measurement are clear.
It was a purpose-built drag car, not a stock Z
HOT ROD describes a 2024 Nissan Z transformed for drag racing, including a Cicio Performance-built VR38 engine swap, a custom Xona 7169 twin-turbo system, FuelTech engine management, and custom driveline components. The report also identifies Simpson safety equipment. These parts describe this particular build; they are not a general fitment or safety recommendation for an ordinary Z.

Traction was a significant part of the effort. HOT ROD and Motor1 report that an earlier, harder attempt lost traction and nearly ended in a crash. The team adjusted the boost ramp before the later pass. That detail helps explain why a drag run depends on managing power delivery and grip, not simply installing a powerful engine.
How it compares with a factory 2024 Nissan Z
Nissan’s 2024 Z press kit lists these factory engine ratings:
Rank #2
- GENUINE: Authentically licensed by Universal
- ICONIC BRANDING: Attention to detail and expert styling cues that enhances the Nissan Z
- ENHANCEMENTS: Highly detailed sculpt, premium paint detail and custom logos
- HIT THE ROAD: Opening doors, trunk, hood, and premium rubber tires,
| 2024 production model | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| Sport and Performance | 400 hp | 350 lb-ft |
| NISMO | 420 hp | 384 lb-ft |
These are Nissan’s production specifications, not measurements of Hartford’s modified car. The drag build’s swapped engine and specialized hardware mean the stock ratings are useful context, not an apples-to-apples performance comparison.
Hartford’s verified channel published a video titled “Nismo GTR Swapped Nissan Z Breaks Horsepower World Record!!!!” on October 30, 2024, and its description names FuelTech’s FT600. That video title concerns a separate horsepower or dyno claim; it should not be confused with the 7.75-second quarter-mile result.

What “one of the world’s fastest” does—and doesn’t—mean
The documented performance is a quarter-mile pass by a heavily modified Nissan Z at a named drag strip. Quarter-mile elapsed time and trap speed are not the same as a car’s maximum speed on a longer course. Nor do they compare Hartford’s Z with vehicles in unrelated classes or speed disciplines.
HOT ROD and Motor1 characterize the car as quickest and fastest in the Nissan Z category, but the available reporting does not establish independent record certification or confirm whether a later run has surpassed it. Treat it as a reported Nissan Z quarter-mile record claim tied to the December 2024 event, rather than an unqualified current world-record status.
