What the video reportedly showed
According to Futurism’s report, a user posted a video that appeared to show a Waymo robotaxi moving along the opposing side of the road as a driver in front of it reversed. The user argued that the clip illustrated a problem with Waymo’s sensor-fusion approach.
That description is narrower than the original headline’s “plows through car” wording. Futurism’s account says the other driver backed up; it does not establish that the Waymo vehicle hit a car. The available sources also do not identify the video’s original uploader, exact location, recording date, any injuries, the vehicle model, or a Waymo explanation of this specific clip.

Waymo’s stated comparison method
Waymo’s safety-impact methodology says its analysis compares local crash data with vehicle-miles-traveled data in the counties where it operates. It adjusts the human-driving benchmark to reflect the geographic distribution of Waymo’s own mileage. That framing matters when reading fleet-level comparisons: the result is an aggregate comparison shaped by where the service operates, not a verdict on an individual driving event.
The later fleet analysis
In a later company-published analysis, Waymo reported more than 270 million fully autonomous miles through the end of June 2026 and said its fleet had fewer serious-injury-or-worse crashes than its human comparison benchmark. These are Waymo’s aggregate figures and conclusion, not an independent finding about the video.
