Ellen Lohr won a DTM race on 24 May 1992 at Hockenheim, driving an AMG-Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. Mercedes-Benz describes her as the first and, as of its published account, the only woman to win a DTM race. The result was a race victory—not a season championship—and a landmark in the series’ history.
What happened at Hockenheim?
Lohr won the first race at the Hockenheim racing festival on 24 May 1992. Mercedes-Benz’s account identifies the venue as Hockenheim and the event as the first race at that festival. The FIA European Truck Racing Championship driver profile also records her 1992 DTM victory. Neither source provides a lap-by-lap account or details of a decisive pass, so the achievement is best understood through the verified result rather than an embellished race narrative.

What car did Ellen Lohr drive?
Lohr drove an AMG-Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. That full model designation appears in Mercedes-Benz Museum GmbH’s press information about her victory. The car was a Mercedes 190 E Evolution II prepared under the AMG-Mercedes name; the available accounts establish the model and entry, not technical specifications or race setup.

Mercedes-Benz calls Lohr the first and only woman to have achieved a DTM victory. The FIA European Truck Racing Championship profile likewise describes her as the only woman to win a DTM race. These are source-attributed descriptions, not an independent audit of every result since those sources were published. What is clear from both accounts is that Lohr broke new ground by winning a race in the series.

The distinction is a race win, not a DTM drivers’ championship. A 2014 Motorsport.com retrospective also reported that the Hockenheim result remained her only DTM victory at that time, while noting a third-place finish at Diepholz in 1994.
Lohr’s achievement was part of a wider racing career
Lohr’s path to DTM included karting and a 1987 German Formula Ford championship, which is recorded by both the FIA profile and Mercedes-Benz. She also competed in Formula 3 before her DTM success. Her later career extended well beyond touring cars: the FIA profile lists competition in the International Touring Car Championship, European Truck Racing Championship, Dakar Rally, German Rally Championship and other series. Mercedes-Benz’s biography also traces her subsequent work with Mercedes-Zakspeed and AMG-Mercedes Persson MS.

In a 2014 retrospective, Motorsport.com attributed this reflection to Lohr: “Today, however, this win means far more to me as I have remained the only woman to have won a DTM race for so many years.” The statement places the result in the longer arc of her career and the sport’s history.
What the career statistics do—and don’t—show
Motorsport.com reported in 2014 that Lohr had made 144 DTM starts and scored 302 points. Those figures are retrospective statistics from that article, rather than numbers independently established by the FIA and Mercedes-Benz profiles cited here. They give context to her DTM career, but the defining fact of 24 May 1992 remains the Hockenheim race win.
