Then consider temperature or long-term storage. A charger light is not a universal diagnostic: its meaning depends on the scooter and the state being tested. Use your exact model’s manual, and do not open the battery or bypass its protection circuits.
Start with the checks you can make safely
- Test the outlet and connections. Try a known-working wall outlet and make sure the charger’s cable connections are firmly seated. Check the manual for whether the scooter must be switched off; Xiaomi says the Electric Scooter 6 Lite will not charge while powered on. Xiaomi’s 6 Lite charging guidance is specific to that model.
- Look over the charging port. With the scooter disconnected, check for visible debris, blockage, corrosion, bent contacts, looseness or damage. Xiaomi lists obstruction or damage as possible causes for the 3 Lite and advises checking the port connection on the 6 Lite. Do not insert metal tools or other conductive objects, and do not try to short or probe the contacts. See Xiaomi’s 3 Lite FAQ and 6 Lite FAQ.
- Check the charger and scooter for visible damage. If a cable, plug, charger or port appears damaged, stop using it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair service rather than testing damaged equipment.
Interpret the charger light for your specific model
Red and green do not have one meaning across electric scooters. Xiaomi’s 3 Lite FAQ describes a red light as charging and green as not charging during its charging check. In contrast, Xiaomi says the 6 Lite charger normally shows green when disconnected from the scooter; no light or red during that particular test may indicate a faulty charger. These are model- and test-specific examples, not a universal rule. Follow the instructions for your own scooter.
Check whether temperature is preventing charging
Battery protection may pause charging when the battery is too hot or too cold. Let the scooter return to the charging range in its manual before trying again; do not use direct heat or cooling to force the change.
- Xiaomi Electric Scooter 3 Lite: Xiaomi advises letting it cool for at least 30 minutes after overheating. Its support FAQ says low-temperature protection activates below 2 °C and deactivates at 5 °C.
- Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Lite: Xiaomi gives a charging range of 8 °C to 40 °C and recommends warming a scooter that has been left in colder conditions indoors.

Consider whether the scooter sat unused for a long time
A battery left uncharged during long storage may become over-discharged. Xiaomi warns that this can prevent charging and may cause permanent damage; its 6 Lite guidance also says charging may not begin immediately in this situation. Do not repeatedly force charging attempts or try to bypass the battery management system (BMS). Contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider for model-specific advice.
Suspect the charger? Compare only with a compatible one
If the outlet, connections and visible port appear normal, a faulty charger is one possibility. Xiaomi recommends trying another charger of the same model for the 6 Lite. If replacing a charger, confirm the exact scooter model and the charger specifications approved by its manufacturer. A connector that fits is not proof of compatibility, and a generic charger is not a safe substitute.
When comparing replacements, verify exact-model compatibility and manufacturer approval first, then check the manual’s connector and electrical specifications, warranty or service support, and seller authenticity. The make and model are not specified here, so no universal voltage, connector or charger part number can be recommended.

When to stop troubleshooting and seek repair
If the scooter still will not charge after the external checks, the cause may be a damaged port or wiring, a fuse, BMS protection, battery damage or a fault in the charging circuit. Those possibilities cannot be distinguished without diagnosing the individual scooter. Xiaomi directs unresolved cases to its after-sales support. Do not open the battery pack, work on internal wiring, probe live connectors or bypass a fuse or BMS based on a generic guide. Give the service provider your scooter’s make and model, what checks you made, and how the charger indicator behaved in the relevant test.
