Porsche’s current plan is for the next 718 Boxster and Cayman to be all-electric. The company expects the pair to support sales in their first full production year in 2028—but that is not a confirmed reveal, order-opening or customer-delivery date. Porsche’s published announcements establish its electric 718 plan; they do not categorically rule out every possible petrol-powered 718 successor or derivative.
What Porsche has confirmed about the electric 718
In its June 2026 strategy announcement, Porsche described the future cars as the all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman and said they are expected to support sales in their first full production year in 2028. That is the clearest published timing guidance for the two models.
The wording is a production-year expectation, not a precise launch schedule. It does not establish when Porsche will reveal the cars, open orders or begin customer deliveries in particular markets. Nor does it guarantee that any one market will receive the cars in 2028.
Porsche Chairman of the Executive Board Dr Michael Leiters framed the broader strategy this way: “We are pursuing a clear plan with our strategy Sportwagenschmiede ’35. The ultimate goal is to further strengthen our unique sports car brand – across all model lines and with new, highly desirable models in particularly high-margin segments.” Porsche’s June 2026 strategy announcement places the electric 718 within that wider plan.

Does the strategy change mean Porsche is bringing back a petrol Boxster?
No petrol-powered 718 successor is announced in the cited strategy statements. But those statements also do not explicitly rule out every possible combustion-engine 718 successor or derivative. The accurate conclusion is narrower: Porsche’s published plan names an all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman, while the question of any additional petrol-powered 718 remains unsettled by these announcements.
That distinction matters because Porsche’s September 2025 strategy realignment did broaden its powertrain plans elsewhere. The company said it would add brand-defining combustion-engine models, retain existing combustion models longer, delay certain all-electric launches and continue updating its electric range. At the same time, it retained a future battery-electric two-door sports car in the 718 segment.

This cover may NOT fit vehicles with extensive aftermarket body modifications, oversized off-road bumpers, roof racks with significant protrusions, or heavily customized suspension/lift kits.
- PREMIUM OXFORD & COTTON – Constructed from high-density Oxford cloth that is significantly thicker and more tear-resistant than common aluminum film. The waterproof outer layer blocks rain, while the soft inner cotton lining protects your paintwork from scratches.
- UPGRADED WINDPROOF DESIGN – Unlike standard covers with only two straps, this cover features 3 windproof straps (Front, Middle, Rear) to withstand storms. Includes dual air vents to reduce moisture, heat-sealed seams to prevent leaks, reflective strips for night safety, and an anti-theft lock.
- ALL-WEATHER PROTECTION – Provides 360° defense against harsh elements. Effectively shields your vehicle from UV rays, sun, dust, snow, acid rain, bird droppings, and industrial pollutants. Ideal for both outdoor and indoor use in any season.
- WARRANTY & ACCESSORIES – Kaugung offers a 12-Month Warranty for peace of mind. The package includes the car cover, an anti-theft lock, and a waterproof storage bag for easy carrying. Contact our customer service team anytime for fitment or quality assistance.
Then-CEO Oliver Blume described the aim as a mix of powertrains: “With a convincing mix of combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles, we want to meet the entire range of customer requirements.” The broader move toward combustion and plug-in hybrids elsewhere in the portfolio is not, by itself, confirmation of a petrol 718. Porsche’s September 19, 2025 announcement is the source for that strategy context.

| When will Porsche reveal them or open orders? | Not stated in the cited announcements. |
| What will they cost, and what range, battery capacity or charging performance will they have? | Not stated in the cited announcements. |

| When will they reach each market? | A market-by-market delivery schedule is not stated in the cited announcements. |
How to read the 2028 timing
“First full production year” is the key qualification. A model may be revealed or enter production before the first year in which it contributes to sales for a full year; Porsche’s statement does not provide those intervening dates. Treat 2028 as the company’s current planning expectation for sales contribution, not as a promised on-sale date for every buyer.
